  1. Someone needs to tell Bri Maddan the cafe is no more.
  2. This coming weekend will be warmer and sunnier. After that the best guess is a return to more unsettled but drier overall weatgher. Currently there are no signs of any prolonged warm dry weather but more than 2 weeks ahead things can and do change lots. The good news is the ground is drying and will continue to do so.
  3. On her own cos the next one listed has a very long name.
  4. Why is Braverman there and not in the commons where she is being paid to be? Why does Farage go to Brussels to talk about things 'that matter to British people'? So many questions about a room full of nationalists spouting their hate
  5. Just watched BBC Newscast interview with Liz Truss. Good grief. What an arrogant, deluded, smug person she is. No guilt, no remorse, just blaming everybody but her with a huge whiff of her own self importance. Heaven help the UK if she and her followers were to ever gain power again.
  6. Take me there and leave me there - cos if all Festivals did Avalon lineups we would go to so many more.
  7. As a Pompey supporter I wish Wrexham all the best in League 1 - it is a tough league to get out of.................... hopefully not even Pompey can mess it up this time!
  8. This is a thread to discuss UK Politics Which Newspapers are OK to quote from Please keep respectful and on-topic. Difference of opinion is welcome; personal attacks are not. New posters are very welcome to join in!
  9. I look at the newspaper front pages every day on the BBC news website. I look so I can see how the different papers choose to 'report' the main stories of the day and how utterly twisted some of them are when using their 'facts'. I would not choose to read further than the front pages in most of them and if I want to find the realities of what is going on I find Channel 4 news and the BBC to both give reasonably fair and balanced reporting. For an 'outside' view point I will look at CNN and Al Jazerra too as it is often interesting to see how things are seen by others with often very different opinions. Sadly all too many of the UK newspapers now re so bias that what they report is often so misleading you can never really know what is going on by reading it............................. and I have had so many conversations with people over the years whose opinions and 'facts' are entirely based upon what is reported and how it is reported in their publication of choice (most often the Daily Hate, aka Mail). Anyway - I took a week off this place as it had become far to polarised and the toxicity levels were rising fast as well as the self promotion of some 'I'm alright Jack' type folks, childish little remarks and with the occasional UK political conversation. Ta ta for now
  10. I said it at the start and I will say it again. She could, and should, have published her advice and shut this thing down right at the start. Doing nothing has backfired so badly now that she is likely to be forced to step down to avoid more damage to Labour. If that happens and Labour do not learn from this appalling handling of this matter then they right will find more on others and attack again. I do wonder when those who blindly support will realise what a mess this all is and how badly it has been dealt with.
  11. and mine was meant as proof that not all 'silly' ;policies are really that silly. Still, I'll get my coat.
  12. Moat people just laugh at people like this, but then most people just laugh at parties like Monster Raving Looney despite their policies becoming law in many cases. Here are just a few: 24 hour legal drinking Lowering the voting age to 18 Abolishing dog licenses Commercial radio becoming legal Per passports Abolition of the 11plus
  13. The discussion(s) as this person contributes to many, are on the BBC news page under 'Climate'. they enter pretty much every conversation on there posting all sorts of 'typical denier' stuff. Just found a story, click on the comments then you have to look through all the comments and replies. It is likely this user has 2, if not more, user names as well. FH is one F&H is another. As for the links not giving any indication as to how much benefit all I can say to that is I have no idea how anyone might convince you as it is all an inexact science based on estimations from small scale projects and historical data. These, as I said, are from England and do not represent the whole northern hemisphere. This is a link to more research on the northern hemisphere but to access the whole article you need and institution login in and that I no longer have. For anyone reading who might not understand "Land “plays a key role in the climate system” as an essential carbon sink because its surfaces, such as forests, regulate the planet’s temperature and help to store carbon." https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-019-1078-6 There is also interesting research being done by NASA: https://climate.nasa.gov/news/2364/a-breathing-planet-off-balance/ There are also numerous papers on the UN website. Anyway, I am sure from discussion so far this will likely not be enough information for you - I am not a scientist but I know a few and have total trust n what they say.................. and they say we need trees, lots of trees in the right place and that includes a huge reforestation in the northern hemisphere.
  14. I only said sacking (removing the whip) as that is what Starmer said Sunak should do to Tories found guilty.
  15. Ridicule other view - when they are utter nonsense and the person making them refuses to accept anything that says they are wring, which FH and many others do in 'denial' threads and pages is about all you can really do. When heads are so far down the rabbit hole engaging them any longer is pointless - it is like trying to tell tRump that he did not beat Tiger Woods at golf. Anyway, here are some links and stuff just about England but papers are available for many other countries in the Northern Hemisphere. This first one hs a quote that says: ""The planting of trees and an end to deforestation are increasingly being highlighted as low cost and environmentally sensitive mechanisms to combat climate change. These measures have been factored into the net-zero agendas of UK and other governments, with world leaders also pledging to address the issue during COP26 in Glasgow last year." https://phys.org/news/2022-01-explores-temperate-rainforests-aid-climate.html Even out sceptical UK government has plans around putting back our temperate forests and they certainly are not well known for spending money without decent proof (or perhaps benefitting their friends and neighbours financially). https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/temperate-rainforest-strategy/a-plan-to-recover-englands-temperate-rainforests There really are so very many places where info is available and such info was offered by others on the thread with FH and their refusal to accept any of it was laughable to the point of ridiculousness. Sadly I have had to try and talk to many like this, and lots worse, over the years - there really is no talking to them - like anti maskers and covid deniers, their mind are closed to any truth regardless of who says it and what proof you offer them. As said, I have seen pages/groups a plenty with people saying the northern hemisphere can has all trees removed and it makes no difference and they refuse any and all proof they are wrong - if you can find a way to combat that level of lack of education then please............ get involved on social media, groups, websites and public debate cos it is soul destroying to try and deal with such people especially as they are now more emboldened thanks to tRump and Reform and similar.
  16. Still an IF, but if Lammy is found to have breached the rules then Starmer has not choice but to get rid or be a total hypocrite based on his response to ReeSmogg etc when they were found to have breached the rules. 51 complaints made and an investigation started........................... with this and the Raynor thing are the 'right' now trying to oust anything left of centre that remains in Labour as they are resigned to a Labour government? A radio show hosted by shadow foreign secretary David Lammy is being investigated by Ofcom after it received more than 50 complaints. The broadcasting watchdog said it was looking into whether the programme that aired on LBC on Good Friday "broke our rules on politicians acting as news presenters". The Labour frontbencher has hosted a Sunday morning show on the station since 2022 after a number of appearances covering for other presenters, and regularly stands in on Bank Holidays.
  17. I recall last time there was legal advice given and the government refused to publish it that situation really did not turn out very well.......... yet here we are again. "If the legal advice finds Israel has broken international law, then the government would be obliged to suspend arms exports - something the SNP, Lib Dems, and Plaid Cymru are calling for. But speaking to Sky's Kay Burley, the work and pensions secretary said it's a "very longstanding convention" that the advice is not published. "As under governments of all political stripes and colours, that advice will not be made public," Mel Stride stated. Kay puts to him that the government published a summary of the legal advice following strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen earlier this year, but the cabinet minister said they are "two different situations". One case, he said, is around the export of arms, while the other was direct military action by the UK government, which is a "very different situation"."
  18. I get 'told off' by others if I make statements like this without showing and evidence and comments like 'so you just made it up' thrown at me....................................... Not having a go at you - just pointing out to other readers the general difference in 'rules' there is on here depending on if the comment is pro or anti Labour.
  19. I am puzzled as to your actual views on this, I did ask yesterday after you shared a link via an embeded Tweet. Do you think Raynor needs to say or do anything or is it that you think she should just be left alone and has done nothing wrong?
  20. I did also write "in fact some go as far as saying it does not matter if the Northern hemisphere removes all the trees as they make no difference" and science based evidence is everywhere - trees take in CO2 and give off O2 regardless of where they are nor how long they are in leaf for, That is primary school level science. He says clearly that those in the north do nothing for climate change - which is again so very wrong. On this thread there are loads more comments from 'FH', here is another one. Do you agree with him on this?
  21. Maybe that is the announcement as well - a new Spice Girl as well as some gigs
  22. So you agree that she needs to get it looked at and if needed say sorry and pay the tax?
  23. This is one of the more sensible reports on the whole Raynor thing, and shows how easily she could (and perhaps should) have shut the whole thing down: "anyone with something to hide will hide it, and all we’ll see are prurient details of their financial affairs, plus the occasional accident/mistake. But now the story is out, it would be sensible for Ms Rayner to speak to a tax adviser and work out what her CGT position in 2015 actually was. If it turns out she failed to pay a small amount of CGT, I think most people would understand that as a mistake – but it’s a mistake she can and should explain and correct."
  24. Snap, there are often some hidden gems tucked away in the list of names I have never heard of.
  25. If you are likely to become Deputy PM then there is always, and should be , huge scrutiny of your past and present otherwise people like tRump might end up in charge more and more. As I said, if she has advice that it is legal then simply publish it and the matter should be closed. If that advice is then found to be wro ng then simply pay the money and sue your advisor. It is the refusal to say anything or do anything that is all too familiar - it is what the Tories have ben doing for years and when/if Labour get into power then they should know what level of scrutiny comes with it and be ready and prepared to deal with it quickly and efficiently with total honesty and openness - else the electorate will soon realise they are no different to 'the other lot'. Of course the Wragg stuff should get more attention - I posted the other day about Hunt's response on this very thread and pretty sure not a single bit of engagement happened on that post while 'discussions' happened about other far more trival stuff
