  1. Yes, I shall hopefully be at the R&F... but shifts permitting because for the first time, this year I’m a volunteer bar worker. Anyway.... last time (2019 I think) you only paid a flying visit because your ridiculous schedule had you in at least three places at once.... are you planning to hang around this year?! Or is that clashfinder permitting?!!
  2. So to summarise the Met Office scientific view... it could be rainy or dry it will be windy or calm and it will definitely be warmer than usual, or cooler. FFS. What’s the point.
  3. Me too! I believe this thread could use an efest poster who is super confident of glorious weather each and every year.... just for balance.
  4. Think he said he was working a long shift at the hospital today.
  5. Elton, Macca and Michael singing Happy Birthday on the Pyramid. One of the three has previous..... they could even roll out Stevie W......
  6. Until 10 days out, I’ll just be keeping up to date with @deebeedoobee. Or @The Nal if I start to get over optimistic. From then, I’ll start to take a keener interest in what the scientists say. Here’s an extract from a science journal...... The ability to throw more computer processing power at forecast models has substantially improved the ability of meteorologists to predict the weather. A recent analysis found that a modern five-day forecast is as accurate as three-day forecast was in 1995. In the last three decades, thanks largely to numerical weather prediction, the useful window of forecasting has moved out from about 7 days to 10 days. Yet beyond 10 days, most meteorologists will say, there is little predictive skill. This is largely due to the "butterfly effect," in which only a very small change in initial conditions will have huge changes after about 10 days. However, in August of 2013, this basic mathematical principle didn't prevent AccuWeather from beginning to issue 45-day weather forecasts. According to an analysis by the Capital Weather Gang, a widely respected site that forecasts conditions for around Washington DC, these 45-day forecasts showed no "skill" after about 10 days. "AccuWeather is a for-profit company and they have every right to pass off less-than-accurate forecasts as they wish, but the public deserves to know that these 45-day forecasts are not rooted in any science currently available to meteorologists and have not demonstrated value," the site concluded. "Caveat emptor."
  7. Is her stamp album and her photo album one and the same thing?
  8. +1 for Elbow here, and Waterboys, Paul Heaton, Billy Bragg, Coldplay, Madness, Suzanne Vega, Fatboy Slim, Florence, Killers, The Cure, Radiohead....I could go on. All played multiple times, all put on a fantastic show, and many if not all of them have , over the years, created great festival memories for thousands of people. These sort of acts are part of the fabric of what Glastonbury is. Personally, I can’t see Doja Cat ever fitting in to that category, but fresh big acts like her are also part of Glastonbury DNA. It’s a big enough festival to fit them all in, and all the better for it.
  9. I looked into that, but didn’t fancy the drive in one go from Scotland, so opted to stay outside Birmingham. However, your post got me thinking... I plan to arrive in Bristol in loads of time for the bus, to avoid the risk of traffic etc delaying me. If any other Shelter volunteers on here are doing the same, DM me if you fancy meeting up for a coffee on the Monday morning... Hotel Ibis seems as good a place as any!
  10. My first time volunteering, so a question.... part of what I really enjoy in the build up is following the line up on here, working out who I’ll see when, updating the clash finder.... everything this year has to be read with the caveat in the back of my mind that an act or acts may also clash with my shifts! Don’t get me wrong, I’m stoked to be going, and it’s a nice problem to have, but I’d prefer if I knew my shifts well in advance in order to temper my expectations! How do you all cope?!
  11. Got one at Hotel Mercure Grand via Yourparkingspace.co.uk
  12. It’s about a 10 minute walk, and £53 for 6 days. I looked into several alternatives, especially given the price of fuel, and how tiring the drive would be. They were all ridiculously pricey, and/or logistically really troublesome with the amount of stuff.
  13. Obviously a dog must have been involved.... but how many men?
  14. I’m driving, from Scotland, leaving on the Monday, and staying overnight just off the M5 near Birmingham. I’ve booked a car park spot near where the bus leaves Bristol. I also plan to stop over Monday night on the way back at the same location. No way could I safely do that drive in one go after 6 nights at the festival. My bus time is 10am on the Tuesday. I’m travelling solo, so have plenty room in my car. If the timings fit in with you, happy to give you and your gear a lift from the train station to nearer the bus departure point, DM me if that’s something you would like to arrange. That goes for any other Shelter volunteers on here struggling to work out how to get to the bus.
  15. Training was done on Zoom, which was just as well. Bus only from Bristol though, which is a bit of a logistical pain given I’m coming from Scotland, but I’m so glad to be going I don’t mind. Coach pick up is in Millenium Square, about 20 minutes walk from the train station.
  16. Hotel Mercure Bristol Grand ... booked through yourparkingspace.com
  17. Used one of the Camplight tents at my first Glastonbury. Was travelling on the coach all the way from Scotland with my then 11 year old daughter. She couldn’t carry too much, and we needed a large two compartment tent. Hear what you are saying about abandoning stuff, but isn’t the opposite true? Camplight were a godsend for me that year, their facility allowed me to ensure we were capable of taking everything home. Don’t think they’re at Glastonbury any more though, which I think is a shame.
  18. Oh, I almost forgot.... I also purchased 2 x 10 packs of Ossian ale, however the chances of both of those making it to the farm from this far out are minimal, so probably best to ignore that.
  19. Did a lot of organising my trip. Booked a Premier Inn near the M5 outside Birmingham for the trip down and back. Booked a parking space in Bristol for the duration, as I pick up a bus from there. Also confirmed a slot for my Zoom training with Avalon bars. As this is my first time as a volunteer, I am really feeling bittersweet about the fact that I can’t begin to work out what clashes I may or may not have until I find out when my shifts are.
  20. Perhaps you have more followers than you realise. Keep up the good work!
  21. It has absolutely hosed it down all day here in Fife. Just saying.
  22. Don’t know how controversial this is... but I’ve always thought that the Acoustic tent was the wrong way round. The ground in the tent seems to slope (gently) UP towards the stage. If the entire tent was rotated 180 degrees, the ground would slope DOWN towards the stage, which would give a much better viewing experience.
