Def Leppard are touring next year which includes festival dates too…

    Bore off.
Well if it is Metallica/BMTH/Metallica and then Def Leppard I can either leave (which is unlikely as I’ll be going with a pal who believes music died in 1989) or I can go sleep early Sunday so I can prepare myself for the slog on Monday morning to take all the gear back to the car.
This is off course unless there is someone of interest elsewhere.

With Download the rules are very easy, unless they were on the poster the previous year everyone can’t plays as they are a R&L type pop act or they have they haven’t proved themselves yet. The only exception is if they have played Monsters of Rock.

Growing up as a metal fan the philosophy to me was always not giving a **** and doing what you want yet that philosophy these days seems to be more at home in the pop world rather than metal.

On Biffy; I just see it as Download fucking up and waiting too long to have them as a headliner. If they had got Biffy to headline the year after Soni, Reading or even before then Downloaders would have cheered and fondly remembered them as one of their bands who proved themselves at Download but as they have gone off and done the rounds at other festivals they are just seen as another R&L indie type band despite their long history with the fest. Headlining Download off Opposites and Only Revolutions would have helped too.

That and they headlined once Download started doubling down on the same ol' old bookings so the regulars have become even more insular with their taste now.

But they headlined previously in 2017 or something, after Sonisphere had died. This was returning headline set.

  5. Ah ok clued in now.

I find that so strange though considering their history at the festival, they’ve worked their way up that bill over the years and a returning headliner so I thought they would have the respect of the attendees.

  6. What's with the talk of Biffy not going down well this year?

I wasn't there like so not disputing it but it was the second time they've headlined and they've played on the undercard a fair few times over the years since Download's inception so I can't understand how it would have tanked with that history.

The sad thing is Chvrches playing was deliberate talk of curveballs that probably won’t happen whilst Status Quo headlining wasn’t.

Having seen Chvrches play live multiple times I just cannae see them at Download.

Cannae pictures the double denim crew swaying along to ‘The Mother We Share’ 🤣

I've heard Hotel California played at Download to be frank, there an old enough band that despite being more mainstream rock they're still highly regarded as a classic rock band. Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam are too modern and too closely tied to the grunge movement.

I’ve not been to the festival since the year Muse played because the line ups are just too boring with the same bands booked time and again.
If Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters, bands who’s band members are in their 50’s, are considered “too modern” I doubt I’ll ever be back ffs.

The talk of BMTH and Architects playing would definitely make me sit up and take notice of the festival again coupled with a returning Metallica.

  9. I think the Muse IOW appearance is more just down to something to tick off the list. Traditionally it was a hugely important festival and it's one of the few they haven't done so why not?

Won't be a popular comment in this thread but at the time when they were announced to play Download there was talk they were on the way down in popularity due to the booking yet the year after they headlined Glastonbury again.

They are still one of the biggest draws in the UK and worldwide, there is no festival they are not headlining if they want to headline it.

he’s got no where to go with that sound

Gerry is too popular to go the way of Jake Bugg, the worst he will do is be a Courteeners type and have a huge following outside of London.

He's sold out Hampden Park on his name alone next year and was previously selling out every tour he put on for the past 2/3 years and I would say that was before the mainstream really knew who he was, if the mainstream press even do now. 2 of those tours he sold out were arena's mainly.

If Boris ignores scientists again....which he finally took notice of this year albeit 2+weeks late, and then it spirals numbers again and it goes to pot.

He will have riots on his hands, not just what we've seen but bad riots well out of control. People everywhere will not care anymore and lockdown will become all but a word. He won't have to get the army on the streets, he will have no choice and number 10 will be targeted very badly and to be honest you can't blame anyone.

    What a load of s***e.

  12. Had ma haggis last night but sadly no dram to go with it as I'm on the Dry January bandwagon. Wasn't quite the same sadly. All the money saved on dry Jan will be going on a nice bottle of whisky though to make up for it 🤭
