BMTH deserve to be booked as a headliner in the 3, but they would need 2 very strong bookings alongside. And a very good undercard too (maybe co-headliner).

21 Pilots were about as big, they'd had 1 breakout song and FR booked them thinking more was to come, given they were doing the soundtrack to Suicide Squad. There wasn't more.

    Hmm I disagree.

They arguably could have headlined after “That’s The Spirit” and then they followed it up with “Amo” which was another success and could have headlined off that again so to book them this year under the old format as an outright headliner I don’t think they would have needed the kind of support you are suggesting.

To be clear, MSW is for acts that are not big enough to headline R&L but they are to big to accept anything lesser.

Had BMTH, Halsey outright headlined MS in the old format we would all question the mental state of FR.

I think we can all agree that MTS was an insanely bad booking. Less questions of Polo G, and D Block Europe sub bookings the better. However these show where the festival is at for current line ups.

You are looking at 21 Pilots, Kasabian, Panic at the Disco as the biggest possible bookings they'd get on MSW.

So when you put it in that context if the MSW booking was Olivia Rodrigo, Yungblud, Paramore, you'd likely shrug your shoulders and say "yeah I see it"

I don’t think many on here would have questioned FR if BMTH had been booked to headline the festival in the old format, I would say the consensus on here would have been very positive but possibly on Twitter it may have been met with the same response akin to Rage’s booking.

I still say it would have been a strong booking in regards to bumping up a band who 100 per cent deserved that chance.

     2023 Prediction

    R&L.jpg

Noel Gallagher subbing Harry Styles? Could you imagine? Dinnae think his ego will ever allow that to happen.

Loving the shout for The Weeknd though, would be an instant day ticket for me with the hope that Paramore are playing the same day.

Or heard it from someone who read the same thing and claimed to be a source.

The more interesting (for better or worse) news is Rex from Pantera liking somebody's Tweet saying he hopes they play at Download next year.

Yeah I’d take from that that Pantera are booked, good spot.

Pretty much certain this year will be the last time I go for the whole weekend, however it was a nice send off to what has been a nice little tradition for me and my friends since 2015.

    Friday highlights:

Frank Carter was such a great start to the day and the festival, no surprises there. Little Simz is bloody brilliant. Only discovered her after her most recent album so was nice to hear a lot of those songs during the set. The Interrupters may have been the band of the day for me, they make me happy and I don't think I stopped dancing the whole time. (I definitely called the secret set on the old thread 😂) . Fever 333 are always on top form, was nice to see such a packed out tent.

    Saturday highlights:

Static Dress pulled a decent crowd and the pit was brutal. Great to see them gaining some popularity. Enter Shikari are probably my favourite band on the lineup. Was gutted their set was cut short but they always deliver. Wolf Alice had an almost perfect setlist, sang along to every word. Bring Me The Horizon were the best act of the weekend. Was concerned about them not playing anything older than Sempiternal but it really didn't matter. The songs from Post Human: Survival Horror sounded massive.

    Sunday highlights:

Was pleasantly surprised by Willow, really enjoyed her rock infused tracks. Denzel Curry is fab, he's got to be one of the best modern rappers. Run The Jewels were so fun and gave me some much needed energy on Sunday afternoon. Having only minimal interest in Halsey before the festival, she really blew me away. Shame her set was closed so won't be able to watch it back.

The only really disappointing part of the whole festival was Danny Brown storming off. I was relatively far back in the tent so unsure whether I've got all the details but 3 songs in, he asked the crowd if they were excited for Ardee and people starting chanting his name. I didn't hear any boos from where I was but apparently there were. It all happened so fast, I was super confused and thought it was part of the act at first. Gutted because he was the last act I really wanted to see at the festival.

From what I was hearing backstage on Friday Danny Brown was pretty out of it before going on stage and it was a sh*t show trying to get him on, one of his crew also wasn’t there and they had to get one of the 100 Gecs crew to sort out something to do with his stage management. Dunno if all that played a part in his walk off but was just what I saw.

Twenty one pilots can’t headline MSE.

Their output since they last ‘co-headlined’ (played second) has gone down like a lead balloon

theyd be a strong MSW alongside a weak MSE’r like Paramore I think, no chance they top the bill though

Paramore “weak”? Really? I don’t see them as a weak booking. I think they’d go over far better than Rage or Queens of the Stone Age. There’s a huge resurgence in pop punk with MGK and Yungblud, Avril Lavigne also to an extent.

I think if MCR’s comeback is anything to go by Paramore would be welcomed back with open arms.

Tour rules them out of R&L. Also MK Bowl is 60k cap and if they sell it I wouldn’t be surprised if they added a Saturday to the tour.

Oh are they playing the Bowl? I glossed over the venues as I’d made my mind up to go to Glasgow so presumed it was the MK Stadium.

Christ, when was the last time anyone played the Bowl? Used to love going there back in the day to see Metallica and Green Day amongst others.

    Panic! At The Disco/Yungblud

    Billie Eillish/Bicep

    Red Hot Chilli Peppers/Doja Cat

I wouldn't even bother getting a day ticket for that.

No interest in Panic! or Yungblud, I'm in the minority that finds Billie live boring and BICEP don't really inspire me as a live act either.

Chilli Peppers I've seen live twice and been terrible both times. Doja Cat I would be interested in but unless it has a strong undercard I don't think I'd bother.

  9. All these fan made pics of the prospective line ups look great but I really hope Pantera aren’t going to be booked.

I’m of the age that I experienced them the first time around and I loved them but I don’t want to see them now without the Abbott bros and now we know what a racist pr*ck Phil is.

Yes there’s an argument to be made about the art versus the artist and separation but not in a live setting in my view, I don’t want to see that pr*ck get the adoration of x amount of thousands going apesh*t for the music.

The most painful part is that I remember an interview around 2020 where Matt said they might do something special to mark 20 years of OoS, but obviously with lockdowns/gigs getting cancelled left right and centre nothing ever materialised 😞

I might be wrong/confused but I think he said that would be stateside shows as they’d already done OoS in full at R+L before.

That gig was magical at SBE though. My missus had dumped me literally that morning and I was bummed out and went along and to see them drop ‘Easily’ and ‘Glorious’ soon got me out of my funk lol.

Absolution would be just as good if not better, great album. Was lucky enough to attend Muse's gig at Shepherd's Bush in 2017 and that setlist was soooo good.

I was at that gig, absolutely immense!!! Lost my sh*r when they played ‘Easily’.

I’d love to see them back but I just don’t think next year will be the one, far more likely for R+L. There’s a part of me wondering if they will show up there for a secret set this year considering the album is released that weekend but it’s just wishful thinking.

  13. If I go back for the first time in years I’d like them to be there.

I was put off by the imagery thinking they’d be cheesy but after listening to them more I’m a fan.

Been listening/watching old Slipknot sets from years gone by at Download and I really hope they are the fourth headliner now. I’m still a bit put off by the price but think that’s just coz I’m an old b*stard and remember a time when it cost half of what next year will be but I’m thinking now if the headliners are what we’ve been talking about then I will go.

I'm sad that I tried to think of the most embarrassing dinosaur rock act I could think of just to be told they would actually like Ted Nugent.

Bro, I'm as horrified as you. He's one of those people who think Download book great acts year on year, that music died at the end of the '80's and that Iron Maiden are more influential than The Beatles.

He also plays Leeds United and only Leeds United on Football Manager each and every year for the past 20 years.

    He's such a boring b*stard. But he's my boring b*stard lol.

It really would be hilarious if all this rumored info was bunk and it's like Parkway / SOAD / A7X / GNR

I don't think I'd be all that mad at that though you know...although I wouldn't be attending 🤣

What if it's Metallica, Ted Nugent, Def Leppard and Bring Me?

I'll take it. I wouldn't go see Ted or Def but ma double denim pal will be all over it so it will balance out in terms of us both wanting to by tickets.

I'm going go out on a real limb here and go with Metallica not playing and opting for their own Knebworth show.

Never done it before even at the height of their success so I don't see them choosing to do it now, if they are doing their own one off show it's far more likely to be a London based stadium show.
