I don’t think they’re comparable to any of those bands you’ve mentioned. They are inherently heavier than all of them (yes, Metallica included). Screamed vocals are an instant turn off for the vast majority of people and despite BMTH diversifying over the years, the vast majority of their set is still comprised of screamer vocals. I know that’s dumbing the argument down a lot but they’re not comparable to those mentioned.
Fair do’s, wondered what the criteria was and can see your argument now.
If they ever attempt their own stadium show though off the back of strong arena sales I think I serious question will be posed, especially if it’s a dry year for headliner picks.

BMTH won’t ever headline Glasto. There’s no precedent for bands like them doing it.
What qualifies as a "bands like them"? And how far back are you going?
Glasto have had Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, Skunk Anansie, really thought Garbage did it as well back in the 90's but apparently not.
You could even argue that when Muse got their first nod it was a bit of a surprise choice as they weren't mainstream darlings then and instead toured their arse off to get the slot much like BMTH are doing now and releasing things/tours that are garnering mainstream attention because of the numbers.

If you could have 1 Main Stage : 3 headliners, who would be your fantasy pick?
Arctic Monkeys // Kanye West // Foo Fighters would be mine in every single reality. Drake is close behind Kanye, but Kanye has been the guy for me since at least sitting in the park on a Friday night circa 6th form 2007
Pure fantasy would be Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, Oasis.
In terms of who's still around and I haven't seen, Radiohead/The Weeknd/Paramore.
-
Scrapping the 2 main stage and curating the days a bit more to the headliner would draw me back as a day tripper, doubt I'd ever return for the full 3 days now.

Just got round to checking out the new BMTH, f**king terrible 🥴
It's like MGK mixed with 100 Gecs.

Folks who have got tickets through ticketmaster, are they virtual tickets or physical? Just wondering if I can buy a car park ticket the day before I go for a day and present the ticket on my phone of if I need to buy it in advance.
Thank you all for your help in advance.

Does anyone know the crack with parking at the fest if you have guest list for a day? Can you just pay on the day or do you need a pass beforehand, can’t tell from the website at a glance.
Oh found it, you can buy just a parking pass by itself.

Nah I don’t think they’ll be back so soon personally, especially with Emily talking up two of the headliners being female. Think it’ll be those two + The 1975/Depeche Mode/something else rather than Foos.
Word on the Glasto boards was they'd been asked for this year but turned it down so I wouldn't be so sure. Course, the Glasto boards might be talking ***** 😆

Paramore, SZA and Foo Fighters for Main Stage East.
I think Foo's are a lock for Glasto next year aren't they?

Download has no real history with secret sets. Metallica did their one that one time and that’s it. Even Fever 333 who were meant to be a secret ended up being announced.
Pretty sure Down did a set back in maybe, 2006 I want to say? Weren't on the poster but played early Saturday mainstage.
But yes, I agree. I'm just saying that if the band fancied it then they could play. Being an exclusive somewhere just means you can't be announced for anything else.

I’m shocked Leeds managed to get Ed Sheeran at all. It’s shocking to get around at the best of times never mind when 80k people descend on one location
Wasn't it because he wanted to do hometown shows to end the tour or something? So played here and somewhere in Suffolk as was born here and raised there.
-
It's not to say that they couldn't pop up unannounced as used to be the case at festivals over years gone by.
-
Might very well get a full weekend ticket seeing as me and the missus within walking distance. Decent enough line up while not exciting per say.
-
Yeah Chvrches played the year and day the Foo's were last there, played before Bastille in the big tent.
-
So what’s the rumours for this year then?
Not been since the year Noel Gallagher played for one reason or another but defo be interested in this now we’ve bought a house within walking distance of the event.

I’d say that roughly 75% of the crowd is from England and 15% from Wales in Reading and 15% from Scotland in Leeds.
The rest is from overseas.
Just as an aside we don't need to get in a debate over this but I'd say there are more than 15% Scots. Both days I attended this year I couldn't look anywhere without seeing a Scottish football strip, felt like a very strong contingent.

Flipping eck. Heard folks on hear discussing Kid Kapichi with regards to 2022 line up and assumed with that name it was some kind of soundcloud rapper, imagine my surprise on actually listening today 🤣🤣🤣.

Yeah it's funny reading on here the older crew not liking the bill, the two pals who would come with me have also said they aren't impressed with it but as long as it doesn't sell out in the first few month's I think I'm gunna get a ticket mid Jan and go by myself.
Happy to see the evolution of the festival and it's made me want to come back for the first time in years.

Ghost are headlining second and finishing before Slipknot according to one of the leakers on the DL forums.
Architects below BMTH and Parkway under Slipknot.
I’m expecting Alter Bridge to sub and think Nightwish would have but they’ve dropped out. I think BFMV will sadly get the call to fill in and sub.
Lamb of God definitely to come too and Halestorm self confirmed.
Praying for Turnstile.
Ghost are playing the Sunday? We all thought they were doing Friday before or did I miss an update?
My double denim pal who wants to go is not impressed with the line up and called it sh*t 🤣

Yeah they did but I could see them getting rebooked on an outdoor stage because they rammed the tent this year and are a DL favourite.
Good stuff! Gunna bust out "Casually Dressed...." for the commute home 😉

Thinking about it I could argue that back in the day Muse’s style was considered quite leftfield for the mainstream and viewed as space/prog rock and not suitable for a mainstream festival headline slot.
It would really be an argument over semantics but indie kids (which was what the festival was at that point) definitely viewed them with suspicion. The fact they were alongside McCartney and Oasis people couldn’t understand the booking at all.
