  1. Saw and enjoyed both his sets.  I can't remember seeing The Other Stage so packed in the day and never felt the Temple shake as much as it did for his set.

That said, his next album needs to be a massive hit and be ubiquitous / big mainstream appeal (like Fat of The Land, Surrender / Dig your Own Hole, Homework, Play) for him to even be in the conversation for future pyramid headliner.

It's technically possible but his next album could just as easily be poorly received and find that his ceiling is The Other Stage / WH headliner.

I think he'll most likely not play (live show at least) next year unless the hype train maintains its momentum

  2. Minor gripes -

The dystopian style of Shangri-La feels dated since now more than ever does it feel like we are in a dystopia.  We don't need reminding of it since we live it every day.  At this point, leaning hard into a stylised utopia would be the more subversive direction.  The congestion in Shangri-la is generally quite terrible.  Not much that can be done due to space constraints but maybe, just maybe rethink having food stands facing the truth stage and find a way to route people heading to the toilet that doesn't involve them having to go across the truth stage.

ICONN is an amazing stage and a sight to behold but I'm getting older and recognise the names playing less and less and struggle with the more esoteric techno/electronica more and more.  There's a wealth of space on that field and if they had  slightly more mainstream djs on there, it could help with reducing congestion across the rest of the SEC. While I appreciate what the block9 guys are doing regarding their programming, ICONN can handle a big draw / crowds, its just a bit of shame they aren't maximising it's potential. it's probably a budget thing more than anything though.

The Unfairground could do with a refresh. I don't think it's changed much at all in nearly 10 years so feels quite stale.

  3. My worst fail of all time was missing Moderat and Justice because my crew wanted to stay for Ed Sheeran and I couldn't be bothered to trek to West Holts and then have to find everyone after on the sunday in 2019.

This year though, I think I smashed it and don't have any major regrets apart from maybe taking it a little too easy on the saturday and arriving to Fred Again late and not getting into the crowd proper.

came away from the set happy. Can't say the same about the Friday night headliner...

Yeah I was happy with what I saw but having already seen them I didn't mind leaving as I wanted to get in to the The Temple that night.

Though my friends who saw the Artics were mostly very disappointed.  The first thing one of my mates said whe I caught up with them was "That was absolutely awful. I would have rather done a pinger at my Gran's funeral. It was like being stuck on a cruise ship being crooned at by a pensioner"

My decision to watch Kelis felt very vindicated after that

    Sorry, what...???

You took MDMA and went to GnR instead of (e.g.) The Levels

    Definition of insanity!

If you think that's misguided, a couple of my friends took some pills before Artic Monkeys.

As bad decisions go, that was probably their worst of the weekend.

I only watched GnR until Live and Let Die.  Slash was great, Axl's voice was a bit woeful at times but hardly surprising.  The performance felt quite impersonal and I didn't feel particularly engaged so went to West Holts and caught the end of Loyle Carner's quite wonderful set.

Sunday is not within a reliable timeframe so we're not out of the woods for Elton.

Yep, been watching that low develop over the last few days and its making me nervous.

Fortunately other models/ensembles aren't showing rain on sunday (yet) so I'm cautiously optimistic that we will avoid it.

  7. Coming up to the last 2 hours of work.  Just got to clean my desk and drop off some equipment and then my out of office will be on.

Did the majority of the packing last night so just got to do a few last minute things before setting off at 8pm.

alright f**k it im gonna say it...

fred again on the pyramid stage... cue the hate

Of all the options, that would be one of the more hilarious ones

  9. Latest run is looking good.

Possibility of light showers on Wednesday but apart from that, dry throughout.
Temps remain pretty much the same. 21c and rising from thursday, hitting a high of 27c on sunday.

The 06Z that gave rain and 13 degrees on the Sunday.

    THAT was a bad run.

I should have worded better.  This was a downgrade but nothing to worry about.  21c most days and a couple of light showers over 5 days?  I'd take that any day of the week

Compared to some of the bad ones, this is a dream.

  11. You can't have a rollercoaster without a few dips.

Guess we'll see in the next run if this was an outlier or if it continues down this path, though hardly surprising to have a bad run after 8 great ones in a row.

Oof, definitely a ton better than rain, but those later days are indeed looking a little too scorch-y for me. Shouldn't be too bad though if it cools down in the evening and I can get a good night's sleep at least. Bring it on!

looks like it'll drop massively to a baltic 19c around 3am before warming up again.

If this comes to pass, monday is going to be hell

Eventually we will reach a tipping point.

When we reach a point where a wireless system can be implemented that has a near zero risk of failure, is as secure as physical tickets and  cheap enough to install and maintain to the point where it will save money compared to physical tickets, of course GFL will most likely migrate to that.

If this was done in partnership with Live Nation or other festivals, then it could be more cost effective as the same equipment can be used across all the festivals.  Until that happens, I don't think we'll be moving to fully digital tickets any time soon

Is it all trending too well?

Are we all getting too comfortable, will later runs drop a bombshell?

I'm expecting it but as long its isolated to a run or two, its nothing to worry about.

thank you!!! white russians sounds great, thanks for the ideas!

I always have a bottle of vodka and a bottle of kahlua on my person at all times so I can have a white russian or espresso martini whenever I pass somewhere that sells milk or cold coffee.

I've got to the point of a relaxed Zen attitude. Throw whatever you want at me, I'm ready.

It's a wonderful state of mind.

I've got footwear for all conditions, My waterproof poncho arrived yesterday and got clothes that will cope with all temps.

What's that Ray Mears quote? there's no such thing as poor weather, just poor clothing?

    SUMMARY

In your face, 06Z! Another excellent run. We've only had one bad run now out of the last 7.

    But let's not get complacent!

I'm getting very cautiously optimistic.  The runs are becoming more consistent and the various models are starting to agree more.

I'm still half expecting a bad run to appear in the next few days but it is reassuring that the majority of the ensembles are pointing to dry, warm weather

Did they even have to close off the Park for Jack White? It felt like the crowd was big, but not absolutely heaving as it was for Foals

I'm pretty sure they didn't.  We arrived shortly before he started and while it was busy, it never felt overwhelmingly so

  19. I am shocked to my core that different people are affected by the weather in different ways.

I feel for Fuzzy, not only does he struggle in the heat and clearly has his preferences for cooler weather, but he's got to justify it on a constant basis.  I don't know what would be more draining tbh.

Weds - Friday dry in the 12z run so far, albeit with some light showers around Southern UK on the Friday.

and above 21c so if it does rain, the ground will dry in no time

i feel like if kelis wasnt a headliner shed get a bigger crowd?  but opposite AM and Hotchip is tough at glastonbury

Definitely.  She'd do well late afternoon on the pyramid but going against the headliners is a bit of a challenge.

That said, she is currently winning the race for my Friday night headliner
