  1. Same boat here (as I'm sure most of you are!). Most years from April onwards, my productivity takes a dive. Which is quite impressive considering how little I get away with doing anyway. The week before Glastonbury I may as well not bother coming to work I'm that excited and useless. Though I've always loved the build up. As much as it's frustrating that Glasto isn't *right now*, it also means I've got 90 days of excitement to come before going to the best place on earth.
  2. I'm convinced that this is currently the case anyway. FWIW, If Liz was to die over the festival, I don't think Glasto could or would stop anything. The BBC may at worst stop filming or most likely, stop showing footage but I can't imagine it actually getting in the way of the festival.
  3. Same here but with me I have the added downside of all my work shirts revealing how much weight I've put on since the winter.
  4. They are very much at the bottom of the list for options as far as I'm concerned. Bar work at Shelter is usually my go to. Great people and fun work so would always recommend them for future festivals.
  5. It was the worst I've seen in the years I've volunteered. The (paid!) work wasn't even that bad. I was mainly stewarding the access roads in the festival so was basically stopping foot traffic when cars and vans were entering and exiting the routes. The atmosphere back at camp and the attitude of the supervisors left a lot to be desired - explainable by the stresses of losing so many stewards I guess but definitely soured the experience for me somewhat. Either way, I was in the festival so that's all that mattered!
  6. I saw it happen to a couple of guys who had packed up most of their stuff (think they left an empty tent) and felt like I heard the Security Guards shout "RUNNER! RUNNER!" and go chasing after them a fair few times when I was in the camp on the wednesday / thursday. I was even treated with a lot of suspicion when I arrived. I was on the standby list so only got the call that I had a glasto place on wednesday morning so only managed to get to the festival at 9pm ish. My friends had taken my tent into the fest for me so I had only brought the absolute bare essentials with me and as such, needed to meet up with them to get my tent. However the supervisor on shift wouldn't give me a wristband as quite a lot of people have already done a runner (hence why I was even there in the first place) so wasn't willing to risk it, even though I was willing to leave all my stuff in camp. I ended up having to sleep in my sleeping bag in the catering tent as my mate was too twisted to get back to his camp, pull down my tent and walk from south park to gate B - which to be fair, in any state I would not expect anyone to do, especially after a gruelling wednesday.
  7. When I volunteered for Stuart Security in '17, they had a guard at the exit of the camp checking bags to make sure no one was trying to do a runner. Those that they suspected had their wristbands cut off and escorted off site. It was extreme but from what I saw of the supervisors, they were losing loads of stewards so had to be draconian.
  8. Probably an obvious tip but make sure on whatever device(s) you are using, you have all registration information readily available to copy and paste in another tab or window. The stress of having to type in registration numbers digit by digit while on a timer makes bomb disposal look easy. If trying in a group, get everybody on a zoom / teams meeting so there's no fumbling around updating everyone if you've got in.
  9. I'm not sure if I'm making this up but I recall something about the council objecting to the loop operating in the festival. Shame really because they do such good work. Though just checked and drug test kits are relatively cheap and easy to get a hold of so if one was so inclined.
  10. It rained a little each day. Annoyingly always enough to keep the mud at that horrible, welly sucking state
  11. Definitely. The weather itself in 2016 wasn't that terrible but the build up was horrendous. Seeing videos of rivers of water flowing underneath the ground which more resembled a water bed than a field still makes me shudder.
  12. He was there last time so as much as I'd love to see him again, I don't think it's likely More than happy to be proved wrong though
  13. For all it's faults, its the closest thing to a fair system. I've been very fortunate in the past, other years not so lucky but all that meant is that I volunteered and had a completely different Glastonbury experience. As for what I'd like to see this year, honestly it would be the spider again. As much as Pangea was interesting, it just wasn't a patch on that fire breathing fella.
  14. I'm already trying to manage my expectations of this. It's like the bookers read my mind to find the perfect combination of acts and location.
  15. Wonder where the Aphex Twin rumour has come from? Needless to say, I'm quite excited at the prospect of Aphex at Arcadia.
  16. Back extensions and/or Good Mornings are good ones that target the lower back https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.strengthlog.com%2Fgood-morning%2F&psig=AOvVaw0CLueIcRxDOQHU-bcfAWcX&ust=1647438962927000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAgQjRxqFwoTCNDik8OiyPYCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAU
  17. With the last couple of years being sedentary and recently recovering from a bout of covid, I've really got to get myself into shape in the next few months to deal with the ridiculous wednesday walk. Fortunately, I live on the coast so can walk along the dunes so as soon as Mrs Shanks has also gotten over her covid, we're going to be getting festival fit. I'm already dreading the ache but it's so necessary. I don't think I've ever been this unfit
  18. fnar! The actual backstory to the name is about 7 years ago, I was on a night out in London and we were in this club that looked like an igloo and had a topless man on stage with a santa hat, angle grinding a plate on his crotch, sending sparks in to the confused crowd. I was literally speechless and tried to explain it to my friends later as some sort of "Kinky inuit" and the name stuck in my mind. Can I change my name to BambooShanks please, Neil?
  19. I believe that to be the case - otherwise I would have moved on from this name as I'm no eskimo
  20. For the love of god, I hope I'm on the 6:45 coach.
  21. It was about 4am, I was in the queue for the urinal at the Hell stage and chatting to the pilled up lads in the queue about what headliners we saw. The lads were saying how good Justice was and I was full of regret as I'd stayed with my friends to watch Ed Sheeran - though a good night was had, you're always going to think about what you missed out on. I took my place and mid stream at the urinal a guy looked over and asked "Had a good night?" It was only bloody Ed Sheeran. I assured him it was fun, had a good ol' singalong with my friends and asked him how his night went. He shrugged his shoulders, said it was alright and then left, leaving me rather confused. Probably my favourite glasto urinal memory outside of my mate Dave completely stacking it by the urinals
  22. Every year I'll have made a massive glasto clanger at some point in the weekend - whether its making the wrong choice with a headliner (Most notably when I chose Ed Sheeran over Justice however it did result in an awkward convo with Ed Sheeran in the toilets by the hell stage after I spent my time in the queue saying I had massive regrets in my decision) or wasting hours of valuable party time accidentally getting the group lost. It took me a good few years to accept that a) these things will happen no matter how much you'll try and prevent them and b) It is literally impossible to do and see everything that you want to. You could do the same festival multiple times and you'll never be able to have the 'perfect' festival, so there's no point in getting annoyed or frustrated over it. As for advice for the first timer - Once they get comfortable and familiar with the layout, send them off and let the festival consume them
