Fuck me, this place could start an argument with a fucking mirror

She Drew The Gun back on the road next year

I don't know them but they've been getting championed on my Twitter by Fightmilk and Martha so have it on my list to check out

It's what the crowd wants

Whatever you think of Vice, this is some fine writing: With crow feathers and 90s-teen girl clips in his hair, The Rasmus’ lead singer was prototype goblincore long before TikTok came along. Their breakout single “In The Shadows” brought this strange Finnish band into the consciousness of British grungers, nerds and parents alike. Just as the opening lines of “Mr. Brightside” are an activating energy source for white people across the globe, as soon as that “In The Shadows” siren goes off and the “aho aho” bird-like call hits the air, miserable people are given the signal to live another night.

Seems an appropriate place to drop this. Some proper chuckles in here. Number 11 in particular made me snort coffee out of my nose.

Scottish indie types Neon Waltz last night, support from local bands Nature TV and Someone Anyone. Proper small venue, reckon capacity max 150 in there. Probably between 75-100 last night. SA were OK, arty/jazzy/indie stuff. They had a saxophonist, which automatically adds points. Enjoyed them, but not something I'll be seeking out. Nature TV are great, second time I've seen them as a support act. They've got quite a dreamy woozy guitar sound at times, no rocking out but great to watch. Some decent chops on the guitar, and some of the best facial expression / physical mannerism combos I've seen in ages. Imagine BB King's facial expressions on a Thunderbirds puppet. Would def watch them at their own show. As a local band they probably got more vocal support than the main act, which was...interesting. Neon Waltz are decent. Got some great songs and a good sound, nothing game changing but solid and the keyboard player definitely adds some layers Gently euphoric is a description I've heard. Singer's got a goof voice, not much in the way of stage patter and I couldn't quite tell if he wanted to bottle a couple of people in the audience. Wouldn't have blamed him tbh, got front and centre in a small venue and proceeded to bellow conversation at each other throughout. Happily they moved just before I was about to have a quiet word. Good night overall 🙂

I might not have to consider it

Looking forward to my £9 3 band gig tonight. Although I'll let you know if the price ends up being representative of quality 😄
-
Didn't realise they were in the UK. Nearest is London which I'm not a fan of, but as they aren't exactly over in the UK often I might have to consider it!

Keeping up with the "bands efests think have crap name" theme, NewDad have a new one out too.

First new release from Peaness in nearly 2 years as well, saw them do this live back in 2020 but the planned release got banjaxed. Full debut album coming next year as well. Love this band.

Beach Bunny are back. Spoiler: it's good.

Ooh thanks, didn't get to see them when they popped in Brighton in the summer.

You've just nailed the whole point of this place in one sentence. Could have just stopped there tbh.

Maya Angelou Oh fuck...

Yup. Can't speak for @blutarsky as I'm a few years ahead, but I look back at the culture around my rugby days (particularly at uni) and I pretty much cringe myself inside out. There was never any direct nastiness, intimidation or deliberately unwelcome behaviour (in fact those who were out of line tended to get a bit of a "decorum chat") but the general vibe was, in hindsight, not good. Even with the "we're not being mean, it's just a joke" glasses on, a big group of large lads singing about the stuff we sang about is fucking grim. Really couldn't be part of it now, and deliberately avoid the big group stuff. Even if it's not misogyny, I'm hugely conscious of being a big group of very loud, very boisterous, very LARGE men and fucking up everyone else's evenings by extension. Can't change what I was doing then, but I can be better now.

Which one?

Skints are still great, saw them again over the summer.

Isn't that a Pogues track?
-
Better be D-Rozzle after all the rearrangements. I'm keeping the faith on that one, more excited by her than the headliners!

Very much so. But damned if I was going to put any of you bastards up there.

Wish I had more time to polish this up tbh
