PFI had many failings but the main ‘pro’ was always the transfer of financial risk to the private sector. That went down the pan of course when the global economy crashed, but strangely the NHS has benefitted from known prices at a time of rising interest rates and mad energy costs. Gets back to the ‘values’ thing though. Labour built shedloads of schools and hospitals that the Tories wouldn’t have dreamed of building. Proof of that was the post economic crash: Obama, Merkel etc built stuff left right and centre while interest rates were practically zero. The Tories went for austerity.

I like Streeting and Milliband. Politics is about values in my view and they have them in spades. Converting them into policy is a balancing act that few left/centre left politicians can manage because of the conflict between global economic realities (‘the markets’) and the expectations of those they wish to represent. Centrist Labour governments will always ‘care’ about the NHS more than the Tories but will always disappoint many core supporters. That’s the weird thing: old Tories will see a better health service (shorter waiting times etc) and will give Labour credit. The criticism will come from the left.

True but it's more his position on the NHS as he wants to reform it without pouring money into hospitals.
Strange take this. Not entirely sure Labour have ever suggested they wouldn’t spend significantly on the NHS (history shows that spending on health between 1997 and 2010 was more than in any other 13 yr period in the nation’s history) but yes, I don’t expect anyone with a clue about anything would want them to ‘pour money into hospitals’ without addressing some of the obvious structural issues affecting them. Reforms can be good you know; especially if they are reforming something that is clearly rubbish.

It's a great view during the day but also an amazing experience at night with the added beautiful noise.
My friend has been allocated an electric hook-up spot as she has to have constant access to power for medical equipment. Are those specs high up the hill by any chance? I don’t know East CV at all and just assumed that she would be fairly close to gate C.

‘and you don’t know what you’ve lost ‘til it’s gone.’
Valuing our artists is so important.

It would happen anywhere but only in one place that likes to claim it's not like that.
Could you give an example of when a Liverpool based business has claimed that it wouldn’t exploit a gilt-edged marketing opportunity? Just one would be fine to reassure me that you are resorting to facts and not mean Boris Johnson-style regional stereotypes.

For someone who is unaware of Jamie Webster or his work outside singing, what did he say on the webcast exactly?
Pimblett was having a go at a Georgian opponent and making comments about how Georgians were shot scared of Russians - basically an attempt to diss his opponent. Webster laughing his cock off. A female Georgian UFC fighter called Pimblett out and the webcast disappeared.

This is also not related to Avalon in the slightest.
Sorry, to get back on topic: I am left of centre in my politics and a Scouser. And I hate Jamie fucking Webster. His quasi-racist webcast ‘bantz’ with Paddy the Baddy should have him binned from Glastonbury for life. But he gets a free pass for his chant.

Nobody saying you should be quiet (try to debate on what people are actually saying rather than anything else) but you should be prepared for people to rip the piss out of you for comparing the two things in such a mindless way.
If anything, the still-a-bit-porous-anyway Glasto fence at 7.8 km versus the USA/Mexico border at 3,124 km shows any parallel you were trying to make to discredit Corbyn was utterly ridiculous.
Corbyn’s manifesto was the best chance this country had to not slide further into a Tory hellscape. Sadly Starmer has binned most of the best policies (public ownership of water and energy for example) to be as Tory-lite as he can.
Scotland has water in public ownership but not the rest of the UK. Why? Because 1898 is closer to the last time Scotland voted Tory than today is.
You seem to be missing the point that Tories in their current incarnation *are* hateful. They are a far right English nationalist party - not my quote, but said by one of Thatcher’s ministers. Which is precisely why they would get short shrift if Rishi bounded on stage and tried to give a speech like Corbyn did. I’d welcome his appearance for the laugh though. Would be one of my must sees.
Public ownership of energy and utilities remains a Labour ambition. In the short term however in the current climate, it makes zero sense. The ownership is of the service and supply, not the product. And in the case of energy it is the price of the product that is through the roof. Why should the Government be buying energy at huge wholesale prices? A lot of energy companies without huge reserves have gone bust trying to. Starmer is closer to Miliband and Brown in terms of his policies but is seen as not left enough cos he isn’t Corbyn. He seems thick skinned enough to ride that out and get rid of the Tories thank God.

You should still expect to queue to enter the festival at peak times each day. I worked PGC last year and at it's peak, it could take people an hour or so to get in. You come in the same way as all the campervan people each morning!
I’m coming down on Tuesday for my first time in CV East (done west RIP….) so I’m quite happy to just wander in whenever there is a small queue. Got two mates coming with me tho who want to get in handy on Wednesday and grab their usual spec in Kidney Mead. They are hoping to be in by about 9am - reckon they will need to queue from about midnight….?

Mark Radcliffe (with his UNE hat on….) totally loving this on his socials. As is, weirdly, actor David Morrissey…..
Both right of course - it’s a cracker.

BBC Introducing on Merseyside are absolutely loving these guys, and buzzing on this single. Tom Robinson has been an advocate in the past and I suspect he will love this as well.

Best band in Liverpool have just released an absolute belter.

I was on to the Horace Andy stuff - another one due a return - but the Dub No Frontiers one passed me by completely. Thanks for that.

Just looking at this poster and was reminded just how brilliant the whole On-U-Sound thing was in the late 80’s /early 90’s. Gary Clail fourth down - he also supported Stone Roses at Spike Island round then - and Tackhead in a similar spot. Those Tackhead singles featuring Clail, (Hard Left, Reality and Mind at the End of the Tether) are still mind-blowing. I think Adrian Sherwood has played the Farm in more recent times and obviously we had Mark Stewart with The Pop Group a few years ago, but I think they are generally undervalued, especially given they are all still based in Bristol. Clail has been busy with new stuff recently - new album ‘Violence’ is brilliant - after taking years out to work with ex offenders and the homeless, and I would love to see him somewhere.

Off to see everybody’s eleventh or twelfth favourite Britpop band Space on Friday in Chester (a bit mean that, they have a few boss tunes) but only cos I’ve found out that Oranj Son are the support. They just turn up every now and then, little notice, and sound brilliant. I had already boxed off tickets for Liverpool for them in a few weeks but this is a cool bonus. Sound is really good at Live Rooms and they absolutely deserve good quality tech.

Honestly, this is true of most music. Two-thirds of my music collection is from artists starting A-M
Sort of get this, but of the first 18 acts - selected by six different judges - only three don’t begin with the first five letters of the alphabet. And only one doesn’t begin with the first seven letters. Statistically unlikely. I suspect they either couldn’t be arsed or the early stuff impressed and they found no reason to change their mind.
-
Anyone else look at that longlist and notice the number of acts beginning with ‘A’ (and other early alphabet letters)? Almost like the longlist judges couldn’t be arsed listening after about half an hour! Might enter next year as Aardvarks

By my calculation, if the weather stays like this between now and the festival then it will probably be muddy. If, however, it eases up and stays like that til June then it will probably be okay. 50/50. Then again, I’m not a ‘professional’ meteorologist.

Based on the response from my Glasto team... everyone is thrilled that GNR are playing. But what do they know?
My extended group, family and friends, is 20 strong, ages ranging from 18 to 55. 11 are defo going GNR and 4 will if nothing else takes their fancy. Only 5 are a ‘no no’. That’s about standard for us for pyramid headliners. Similar for AM, slightly higher for Elton.

How can you not see that top paragraph is incomparable! Notice how you didn't accuse her of sexually assaulting you whereas the girl with Axl Rose did?
Its in this biography commissioned by the band - just look at the sources on wikipedia if you wish.

We've completely gone off the topic anyway, its clear by the nonce tent, Axl Rose or not that the festival will probably book the 1975 for now
He was accused of ‘statutory rape’ cos she was under 16. As was I. Legally incapable of providing consent. Literally no difference.
anyway, yeah, fuck off 1975. -

Legal evidence no
But he did say he did it - that's enough evidence for me to make my verdict
what is it with peedo defenders on here
Hmmm… peedo defenders? My first experience was with a girl who was just turned 18 and I was nearly 16. We were together for eight years and I am still friends with her and her family. Over 30 years later. I’ve never had her down as a paedophile but maybe I misjudged her.
anyway, can you point me in the direction of where he said he did it? And I don’t mean that two-bit gossip column shite you put up before.

Most PFI contracts had/have periodic review clauses. Not many are volunteering to cut their fees obviously but most of the ‘good’ contractors (and there are a few, they aren’t all Carillion) agree to sensible maintenance and facilities management adjustments.
Still: fuck the Tories.
