Electric Picnic announcing their (16-18 August Ireland) announcing line-up on Fri - wonder if it's a shared headliner who's yet to announce tour

Lovestream (same weekend as EP, Slovakia) is also announcing their headliners on Friday…

Parov Stelar has a song called Catgroove or Grandpas Groove 😀

If Leaks wont show up by wednesday, it means that we will get a disappointing name for headliner.

They have a show in Budapest few days after Sziget so no need for that...

Another band that would surely sell a lot of tickets very fast is Rammstein. They're doing an arena tour next summer and they have nothing scheduled after the 31st of July. I guess they can be convinced to play Sziget for the right price.

What makes them unlikely however is that they use lots of pyro and other stuff, so I guess it would be complicated to organize the gig.

    *stadium tour

They need their own stage as their current show/equipment is not suitable for the regural festival stages. No chance...

Actually I support this for one big reason. Chester cannot be replaced. No matter who they get, the GUY will be compared to Chester non stop. But if the singer is a chick, there is less of a comparison and it's a new flavour.

Check this out, there is some banter if she is joining or not but regardless I think this is pretty good:

Ok but that won't happen this year, that "chick" has other plans with her own band - Stand Atlantic. So 0% chance they're the last headliner we're looking for.

Queens of the Stone Age - playing in Sweden on the 8th of August, does that make them unavailable for a gig on the 7th in Budapest?

    Yes, that makes them unavailable...

I don't uderstand this though. Why would they headline festivals throughout Europe if they know just song 2.

Stone Roses had the same issue at coachella on there reunion.

I don’t know what’s not to understand about the fact both these bands are niche acts in the US. They’re not popular in the rest of the world as they are in the UK. They mostly headline alternative festivals like Primavera (no Werchter, Mad Cool or Open’er) where people love them. I don’t think they would be able to sell out stadiums (or even arenas) in mainland Europe.

No, Blur have at least 6-7 hits outside the UK that I can think of. I think it's more likely instead that Coachella had a dull crowd.

6-7 hits that used to be played (or still is) in the radio? No way...

also despite popular belief on most forums, Blur had the worst crowd engagement, so much so that apparently Damon Albarn told them they're never going again

I don't know what he expected tbh. Coachella crowd is generally not the greatest, they've never hit the charts in the US and most of the crowd were little kids (or not even born) when Blur were at their peak. Don't think it would be much better at Sziget nowadays, most of the people (except the Brits ofc) would only know Song 2.

heuuu, no. It is not bad everywhere. You might blindly support the BullShit line up Sziget is giving us this year, but it is not everyones' case. Without criticism, festivals would keep on going with cheap/poor acts.

So please allow me, since I pay for this festival amongst others, to express what I feel about this particular year.

And then, I can show you a couple fests' in 2024 with a nice programs I consider better than Sziget (these are only a few examples).

I don't blindly support Sziget's lineup (I don't even have a ticket lol) but if the festivals you picked are the best ones then it just proves my point (even though music taste is subjective). We get that you're dissapointed as a paying customer but you don't have to complain about it here every week.

Rock En Seine is solid, I'm not a fan of the headliners apart from Fred and maybe Maneskin. Lana is huge but probably one of the worst live acts in the world right now.

Rock Werchter is just weak compared to their previous editions. Lenny as a headliner? And wtf are Sum 41, Khruangbin and Pretenders doing so high up? In general, there are way too many "outdated/irrelevant" bands in big slots this year and barely anything "interesting/fresh".

And I'm sorry but Main Square is a joke, man. What kind of crowd are they aiming for? It's like putting lots of random things in a blender and calling it "mystery smoothie". I listen to loads of different stuff but even I think this is way too much.

seeing only this last day selling, proves that we're right : the 2024 line up is really weak.

We knew it, we said it, and now the "big sziget brains" can realize it.

Usually, when bookers f**ked a line-up up (is this correct english lol ?), do they get fired ? because, well, 2024 will remain in everyones' heads, but not for the 30th anniversary lol...

Jesus Christ, we get it. It's bad but isn't this year bad everywhere? Noone is getting fired when even Coachella and Glastonbury struggle with their lineups. I don't know why you keep expecting miracles.

Was it a European exclusive? I was looking at news articles but neither I found info about exclusivity or plans for future dates. They usually add that onto the poster if it’s an exclusive, and it’s not the case here, hence I think the rest of the dates are in the plans now.

The thing is they're not European exlusive oficially but they're not planning more dates either. It's been 5 months since the first Download poster was released. If they planned any EU dates, they would be announced by now. They are just finishing their tour for the last album which also included European dates in the autumn of 2023. I guess they want to spend rest of the year with their families and are just doing 'the prestige headline slots' at Download and WWWY.

  11. 12 minutes ago, Akujin said:

Yeah I know. 2 months long European tour impossible? Surely they will announce a full on European tour, unlikely they will travel just for DL

That's exactly what is happening. No tour, just DL.

New idea! How about Fall Out Boy?

They only have Download Festival in Europe for now, so they should definitely announce more europe dates.

They are also a suitable size for Sziget.

    Thoughts?

There's no European tour planned at the moment. Personally, I don't think it's them but it's not entirely impossible.

So you either refusing to believe that they are already in Europe or you don’t understand your own definition.

so by that you also believe they cost more than Foo Fighters ans Billie Eilish? I’m guessing your research is more extensive than of sites that literally dedicate their existence for this.

So you think they would stay in Europe for almost 4 weeks? Who would pay for their hotels, storage of their gear etc.? I think you don't understand how touring and logistics work...

I don't know how much they cost because that depends on so many elements. I just know that stating some artist ask for more money than the other ones is complete bullsh*t. You're not buying socks. I've had a few chats with people who work in the industry and they all told me one festival can pay a lot more for the same band than a different one. The price is based on so many factors like competition between the festivals, credibility of the festival/promoter, logistics, willingness of the band to do festivals etc. The bands don't simple have a price tag. From time to time there are some leaks that a festival/promoter paid a certain amount but that doesn't mean everyone else pay the same amount.

What do you mean one off show? They are literally playing Mad Cool a few weeks before and plenty of other shows in Europe.

One-off show means coming to Europe for only one show.

    56 minutes ago, Akujin said:

I’m not claiming to know exactly how much they get paid now, but it’s a good indicator of their bracket ehich is around Foo Fighters - who have been to Sziget.

It's not a good indicator. Period.

Could Pearl Jam be the missing headliner? They end their Europe tour in mid July leaving them with a fair gap before their US tour.

And no, I don’t think they are too big to book. In fact based on publically available information they seem to be slightly cheaper than something like Foo Fighters and defo cheaper than Billie Eilish.

Publicly available information about fees is mostly just made up nonsense. Artists don't have fixed fees, it's more of an auction and the fee can differ a lot between the shows.

I don't think Pearl Jam have ever done a one-off show in Europe. And I don't even know how many years it's been when they had any EU show in August. They are quite predictable in that so why would they change it all of a sudden?

So the answer is no, it's not Pearl Jam.

Still much better than Rihanna headline show at the same year.

At least it was somehow “original”. Prerecorded videos had some famous persons which were physically present only at her Coachella show. It was weird, but I liked that.

Agree with that but still felt like I could have stayed at home and watched it on YouTube. We were quite far at the back of the crowd and barely saw the stage so we mostly watched the screens.

Why not ? If I may ask?

That show in 2016 was also a little bit sus. Her vocals sounded way too perfect so wouldn’t be surprised if it was playback, but you couldn’t tell because of the hair covering her face. Plus only pre-recorded videos were shown on the screens…

(I actually remember a radio interview, end of December, of someone well informed saying Katy Perry might go on tour end of 2024, outside the U.S ... what if ...? f..k me I would be crazy lol)

Well, she's headlining Rock in Rio in September so she's definitely active...

    Why so?

We have three announcements it seems, and have only had one so far. It wasn't the greatest, but in four days we have another. Wait and see what comes. Losing TDCC is hardly the end of the world!

I don't know man... Don't think Liam, Skrillex and Raye as the biggest names will satisfy many people.
