  1. Wouldn’t be so sure. Think the corruption thing will be the unravelling of Boris. As I see it - a big danger from that is that Starmer gets in on a majority, sees it as vindication of neo-Blairism and we have at least 5 years of the same cash for honours, shitty pro market reforms, interventionism overseas etc, and Labour becomes a pariah for another generation until the tories fuck it up again and nothing ever gets better.
  2. In a 15% Labour majority seat. But thats by the by. No chance Keir Stalin goes for an electoral pact, It’ll be upto the voters to figure it out. And none of that horrible lib dem favouring (probably funded) fake tactical vote website bollocks. But i have faith!
  3. No sir. I’ll be voting Green at the next GE and hoping for a hung parliament in which Starmer has to offer PR and indyref2 in order to build a coalition. After that I’ll probably vote for the momentum party that emerges from the post-two-party-system dust. Or maybe Green to be fair. Depending on the policies. But usually I feel my tolerance for the extreme fringes of the left (communists) is greater than my tolerance for the extreme fringes of the greens (homeopaths/hari krishnas), so my natural home is probs with the left.
  4. What about non labour voters posting it?
  5. Lol have you ever met a politics student? They are the thickest of all. An education system based on developing critical thinking, mental and physical wellbeing, and the pursuit of intellectual curiosity would produce better outcomes IMO. Instead they are going to teach them latin… in fact I wouldn’t be shocked if they brought back the cane at the point.

  7. The left don’t say it’ll mean sacrifices. Only for those at the very top. Unfortunately the left says that you get something for nothing its defamed as fantasy politics by the media when it is in fact true. When the right says you get something for nothing its lauded in the media despite being bollocks. And sadly the centre are all to happy to join in on the defamation dogpile on the left. If even those supposedly on your own side are calling moderate left wing policies ’looney left’ what hope do you have? Its a massive stitch up. The centre needs to open their eyes that they are being played hard by rich and powerful people who don’t have their interests at heart. I would appeal to all centrists to stop reading the news, quit the cynical world weary, nothing can ever get better theatre that they indulge in and just believe for one election cycle. If they’d have done that in 2017, things would be a damn sight better than they are now. Even if Starmer gets into power, he’s driven out many left members, he’s handpicking new candidates from the right of the party and promoting the right to all the decision making posts. The leader sets the tone of the government but the advisors, ministers and Labour conference would all be variously responsible for the bones of the policy it implements. Theres very little hope that a Starmer administration would suddenly, against the beliefs of everybody involved, become this radical reforming government.

  9. I’m just pointing out that a system that is based on self interest in the immediate term can’t solve a ’tragedy of the commons’ type problem. The problem as its described now appears to be so serious that it really is only saved by radical govt intervention and probably a big reimagining of what daily life looks like in the future from where folk live to what they eat to how they get around. I just don’t think that those politicians who have grown up through politics in the 20th century when it was all growth and bombs have it in them. Biden a mixed bag so far, something at least but not far enough, not fast enough. But Starmer’s comments about rehabilitating Blairism are so pointless and tone deaf. New Labour are trying to fight a war they lost a decade ago. Third way politics didn’t work. The Corbyn era was forward looking, engaged with modern solutions to modern problems.
  10. what a very liberal way to admit that any advance that reducing climate change is achieved by the state, through r&d usually paid for by the taxpayer and subsidies paid for by the taxpayer - whilst business just creams off the profits and slows down progress. the reality of climate change doesn't allow the liberals to do their half arsed, milquetoast nonsense anymore. free market economics, capitalism, the interest of shareholders, whatever you wanna call it, simply slows things down and at the moment it seems like time isn't something there is an abundance of. unfortunately, liberals will carry on anyway. carry on writing this drivel and attempting to play both sides. happily lining their own pockets, making no adjustments to their life style, whilst ostentatiously expressing their disgruntledness at the state of things. liberals will cry about bolsanaro cutting down the amazon whilst waxing liberal about the 'beauty' of the barren british uplands, happily getting behind sheep/grouse farm subsidies, oblivious to the fact that whats happening to the amazon already happened here, and could be reversed by simply not paying the people who own the land anymore taxpayers money...
  11. They have liberalised their economy and benefitted from becoming the workshop of the world and why not when that delivers better outcomes for the people. But its not true that this is motivated by the same belief in the virtue of the market and shareholder value maximisation, along with its ability to solve all problems. So when problems like this arise, I’d reckon China would fuck market economics off quicker than the west - where that ideology is still absolutely entrenched in politics and business. And sadly in the uk, thanks to the shift in direction by Labour, its now the dominant economic philosophy in both major parties. The only real options left are the Green party and the celtic nationalist parties.
  12. Point of order, China has nearly 5x as many people living there as the USA. It also has around 15* the population of Germany - which incidentally is around the same factor that their emissions are greater than Germanys. More than a little unfair to single out China who are actually a bit ahead of the curve than many western countries on the environment, and may very well end up saving us all given they are the only major economy not totally beholden to the pursuit of endless growth.
  13. You mean this? Because that contains no information whatsoever on what Labour would do. Just more braindead blithering from the artist formerly known as forensic. The Labour frontbench has a major knowledge gap on the environment after promoting a load of neolibs and sacking anybody with an authentic interest in environmentalism. Actually is has a knowledge gap across the piste. Its not looking good when both major parties are dominated by yesterdays men who have no idea how to define let along tackle the problems of the 21st century. Most of which the dogma they follow actually caused and continues to exacerbate.

  20. Alright fairplay maybe its me who r the idiot. Given she said millennia rather than millennium, i’d be surprised if she knew this mastermind level millennium knowledge. But thats moot really. You win this time, Phillips.

  22. I meant parliament is like that, she went to a grammar school by the looks of things. Parents were professional class. She worked for their company out of school, some campaign groups type stuff then into politics. Nothing wrong with that of course. But she’s happy to portray a life of hardship and economic struggle that is not entirely accurate.
  23. Yeah, same, certainly with stuff lower down the bill but less so the headliners (or at least the ones i’m into and go and watch). I can imagine you and I have been to a fair few more than jess phillips mind. Particularly since she’d have been, checking wiki, 18 in 2000. So I would guess she wouldn’t have been to many more than that. Yeah, I know being in that world surrounded by eton oxbridge PPE types must give you a different frame of reference, but the amount she plays on being a real salt of the earth, working class backstreet brummie brawler is lame considering she seems to be from basically a suburban middle class upbringing.
