What we should be asking now is - who does Chris Martin have ties to? Who are his showbiz mates?
Yeah I'm hoping CM will just waddle on and introduce a couple of his big popstar mates, such as Bowie, then get the hell offa that stage before someone's daft enough to hand him a guitar
-
All the bands at Globla Citizen Earth Day were american though, so surely if it's "two British bands" it'll be a different line-up to that - although Mary J Blige was there and she's confirmed for Glasto this year, but hey
-
Chris Martin being involved is far more likely a reference to him talking to another act and getting them to play Glastonbury.
i'm far more interested in Michael talking about how nice Fleetwood Mac's manager is tbh.
nice....for helping them out when they're stuck for a 3rd headliner? still got shows to play? bigger field? wait until June for IoW to sell as many tickets as they can?
Maybe the global ambassador and negotiator Sir Chris Martin OBF managed to broker an eleventh-hour deal with Mick F & his lovely manager
-
Here's Dhani Harrison with some other nobodies, oh and er Prince (who does an amazing guitar disappearing trick at the end)
-
Still can't believe Michael turned down his dad.
Really?? That's insane. He was very much part of getting the whole festival thing going with his Concert for Bangladesh in '71 as well.
-
Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Julian Lennon and Dhani Harrison would be nice wouldn't it.
Very nice, Here Come The Sons. Dhani is one great guitarist too, be worth seeing in his own right.
-
Roger Waters, Bowie and the three living members of Led Zeppelin have all played before.
Surely if it was anything of these proportions they'd never keep it secret until June!
-
"Chris Martin is involved" What about Bowie taking him up on this?
Chris Martin says Bowie turned down Coldplay guest spot because song 'wasn't one of my best'

Was at the Q&A tonight, when talking about next year's headliners Michael said "He's British, but the band aren't" make of that what you will guys
it's 2014 again... my time machine worked!
Yes hang on, haven't we heard that recently about *this* year's enigmatic third headliner? Is the mighty Michael confusing his years?
-
Someone I know was as the same event at the V&A tonight and it went like this:
Question: "so Michael what bands are you looking forward to seeing that you haven't seen before?'
ME : "well Fleetwood Mac obviously, you know that. They have a really nice manager. That's all I can say...." (wry smile and applause from the audience.
BTW if the person who told me this is winding me up, then I'll swing for them..
Yeah I'll hold 'em down while you do - if that's true I'd be well made up
-
Desperately trying to make sense of this two-band thing - does he mean headliners for both Pyramid and Other for Sunday night?
And both British "most likely" - does that mean he doesn't know if they're definitely British, or he doesn't definitely know who they are yet...???
-
He couldn't mean that Chris Martin is going to appear as guest with Kanye on the Homecoming song he sang on, could he? Nothing to do with the actual third headliner?
Although two British acts could mean.... we get both FM *and* Blur!!
-
I think I fell in love with that Natalie Prass girl, she's really good!
I see she's down as an SR for this year - should be worth popping the head round the tent-pole for her set
-
Sting's in Norway or something all weekend. Can't happen.
<mildly relieved face>
-
Has anyone suggested it could be the Paul Simon & Sting show that's currently running around Europe? (Not that I'd be thrilled if it was...)
'On Stage Together' - it clearly takes the combined imaginations of two of last century's greatest songwriters to come up with a tour title of that level of stunning originality
-
Had some real "floods of tears with laughter moments" in the cabaret area - John Otway - marvellous.
Yes Otway and Jeremy Hardy are both must-sees for me each year, guaranteed to have me completely helpless within 5 mins
-
off topic, but i think Flight of the chonchords should play. They would be Bloody perfect for Glastonbury!
Ovbiously not headlining tho...
Yes that'd be a hugely enjoyable set in the perfect environment for them, would love it
-
Special guest for Foos too. He'll be there the whole weekend. Macca loves it.
He's known for not doing things by halves, he loves the crowd (is a nice way of putting it)
-
Neil seems to think that the headliner was a late booking, and so anything said by any act before about two weeks ago could be considered null and void due to this. as i said earlier - i'd find it odd if any band now lined up to headline didn't have some inkling that they were in the pipeline, making Dave's pretty blunt 'no' seem odd, but who knows? maybe Glastonbury were in a panic, and asked Albarn for another headliner favour
Ah well, as per the map, it's all opened up and all to play for again.... as you were!!
-
What makes you say this? Rowntree's quote that may well have been from before they were booked?
Dave Rowntree on XFM said they're not headlining (didn't say they weren't *playing* though...)
https://twitter.com/Xfm/status/579925167067029504
But OK it was March.... but the Blur thread here seems very convinced it's not going to be them
-
So if it's definitely not Blur now, the field, so to speak, is narrowing
-
There's still massive amounts of cabaret to be announced though of course - at the very least we know Otway will be back (yay!) and probably other brilliant talents like Phill Jupitus, Jeremy Hardy, Marcus Brigstocke, etc
-
Lounge Kittens are a great way to spend 20 mins between acts, I enjoyed them last year, but in all honesty I wouldn't miss someone you really want to see for them.
-
Didn't Dave and Krist get together with Macca to do some Nirvana stuff a little while ago?
So..... Macca will join headliners Foos on Friday for some Nirvanafication, then he'll be with Kanye & Rihanna on the Saturday headline for Four Five Seconds, *and then* headline on the Sunday in his own right! He'll even have Ringo on as a guest to celebrate just inducting him in the RnR Hall of Fame. And ANOTHER Glasto in a row will finish with a massive With A Little Help From My Friends!
It's just about perfect...

Best info so far is yes, he's definitely "involved", but not so far as to be actually performing - there is a god (and it's not Kanye)
