So Green Man has just sold out on the first day of issue for the first time ever. Ticketline operated a new system that involved queueing (well, a timing-out holding page) a bit like the See Tickets Glasto system, again for the first time ever.
Some of us here have been talking up the possibility that the demand for Glasto tickets in November could be a little easier this year due to everyone being a bit squeezed financially. Does this record-breaking sellout suggest the opposite?
Were there other reasons that Green Man proved so popular this time?
What do we think?

It depends what sort of mood you're in - you can't beat the energy, brilliant pop-song writing and really fresh inventiveness of the early albums (Beatles For Sale a bit of a departure with quite a lot of cover songs - they were clearly in a rush). Then Revolver really breaks the mold and takes you on a journey waayyy beyond popular song-writing as it stood in the mid-60s, which they did in even grander style with Sgt Pepper. Magical Mystery Tour was a bit limp as they'd just lost Epstein and were recovering their energy and creativity, but The Beatles is epic in scope and creativity, Let It Be is the catalogue of an interesting experiment with some fantastic songs, and Abbey Road really did cap it all off in the most magnificent way imaginable.
Out of all of them I do find myself going back time after time to Abbey Road

If I'm after audio only of a few sets, is there a (simple?) way to get those?
You can use the --audio-only option in the command line, or when you download a set it downloads the audio first, then the video, then combines them and deletes the individual files.
So you could watch the progress of the download, and once it’s downloaded the audio file and started on the video, copy the audio file to a file with a different name. You can then either wait for the whole download to finish and delete the resulting mp4 file, or cancel it before it finishes downloading the video, and you’re left with your copy of the audio file.- 1

So any truth to reports that the sound on the live broadcast was bad? The iplayer version sounds fab on my system.
One person who said it was my dad so I'd like to know, but I've seen it elsewhere as well
I've heard that too - the version that went out on the night was apparently not a great mix. The full set seemed to be a bit slow to go up on iPlayer, and maybe that was because they were giving it a good old remix and polish - it's certainly great now, as you say

well, here's macca in 1080p - let's just say I uhn found on twitter: https://transfer.sh/QXT9hW/paul_1080p
Ta for that - but I'm *fairly* sure you can get that from get_iplayer - my download is 9GB, reported as 1920x1080, using --prefs-add -TVMODE="FHD,HD"
Nice to have it done for you already, though, in your link 👍👍

Yeah, when he sang with John...... not a dry eye on the farm.... that localised muddying was not caused by any rain....

Thinking about the generations he's entertained.
Got a message off my mum to say she loved it on tv on Saturday night. To think that she and my long departed dad used to watch them in the Cavern and there's her grandson, 18 years old and loving it in the Pyramid field... fuck man, incredible what he's done.
It's not an exaggeration to say that *that man there*, along with his three mates, changed the world forever, beyond "just" giving us the best music we'd ever heard
-
Just re-watching it too - got to Get Back, and noticed that Brian Ray (guitarist on our right, Macca's left) took the solos in it. I *could* be over-thinking it, but wonder if Brain was 'playing Lennon' and playing the solos that Lennon played originally, and Rusty, the other guitarist (on Macca's right) was playing the George parts (obviously far more of them, so he was playing most of the solos in the Beatles stuff).
Will have to run it all through again and see if there are any examples of that *not* happening, unless anyone else has been this obsessive too and noticed this sort of pattern......?

He's quite familiar with the "It is the first we're playing this song..." trick. He usually adds a mention "In Europe / in France / in 2022 / during a full Moon / with an outside temperature of 17.6 °C ...." 😀
🤣 first time since he turned 80 perhaps?

Having stood for about 4 1/2 hours through Greta, brilliant Haim, slightly dull Noel (sorry NG fans), and having been verrry curious as to what all the builders in hi-vis and hard hats on-stage had been up to between NG & Macca, was getting incredibly excited to be in the best position I've ever had for the headliner I was most excited to see!!
(And it's a matter of record that he *did not* disappoint....)

He said “we’ve never played this one live” before You Never Give Me Your Money… but they’ve been playing it all tour at least!
Yeah I was a bit confused about this too - in older days he used to do a solo piano version of You Never Give Me Your Money, with hardly anything of the second section ('Out of college, money spent....'), and none of it as a band song. As you say, this whole US tour, he's done it just as he did it for us, and every night he announced "We've never played this live before!" 😁
So he must mean they've never played that second section, as a band, before this tour (and of course it was the first time in the UK when he played it at..... the Cheese and Grain on the Friday!). So we saw the first official live gig playing that bit as a whole band in the UK (if you ignore the Cheese and Grain event).
HTH 🤣

Yes absolutely love Small World, spent many a joyful late evening sat around their braziers listening to wonderful sounds. Such lovely people running the place too. And the amazing world-beat dj-ing of the Lizard tent not far away if feeling energetic!

Haven’t seen any mention of it yet, so a big shout out for Fish Finger Heaven on the path out from Theatre & Circus. Lovely people serving always, friendly and fun, this was a regular late night snack on the way back from somewhere. And if you happen to be one of the last customers they’ll just load up your FF sandwich with everything that’s left for no extra charge…. Hope they’re back again next year!

I've been trying to use getiplayer, but I just keep getting "is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I've been trying the --pid and also --url, get the same message every time with each
Any idea what I am doing wrong?Yes others have had this too - it’s because Windows can’t find the get_iplayer app and so can’t run it.
You can tell Windows where the app is by typing (or pasting from here) at the get_iplayer command prompt:
set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files\get_iplayer
Then try running the get_iplayer commands again

Do we think Dua Lipa could headline next year?
Just after Future Nostalgia she'd have been a shoo-in, but if she drops a dodgy second album it could be a toss-up
Although Billie E's second album didn't exactly go down a storm and she still smashed it on Friday!
So I'm saying...... YES (please!)

Also the poor reception seemed to drain my battery way faster - is that a thing? Like it was if my poor phone was scrambling about to find a signal and was being sucked dry in the process. On the Thursday I used my phone for less than half an hour of screen on time but I was on 10% by about 10pm. Usually on that with five hours of screen on time!
Yeah searching for connectivity does drain the battery faster - must’ve been a lot of that happening this year

Can’t remember if Weyes Blood was on the original line up for 2020, but I’d really love to see her there in 2023
Also Lana, Elton, and Fleetwood Mac pls

Macca obsessives on Facebook reckon the iplayer version has been remixed to rid of a couple of technical difficulties from the Saturday recording. Also includes Danger which was omitted.
Just watched it back and it sounds just as spectacular as I remember on Saturday. Up there with Blur 09 for me that was.
This patching up of the mix is probably why it was so slow to appear

Mustn't forget Emma-Jean Thackray on WH before Herbie
And you could include Ishmael Ensemble before that! Ishmael Ens > Emma-Jean Thack > Herbie > Nubya > Snarky > all jazzed out

Bhangra Bus hit the spot several times for me, not too pricey either - incredibly fast service and just love that food!

God - the sound in the BBC recording is great. The brass sounds even better than it did in the field.
Those brass were stunning weren't they! Did someone say that until recently he'd used sampled brass? The real thing makes all the difference in the world!
Green Man sells out in record time - what does this mean for November Glasto ticket sale?

Yeah that’s the thing - Green Man normally takes weeks to sell out, but today the demand was definitely higher with it selling out in hours
