    Volunteering 2023

Is there a kind of reserve stewards list? As in one doesn't show up so they can dispatch a new one?
  2. Pretenders. For those gutted about Rick Astley/Blossoms, yes but: where we were it was such a bit singalong that we barely could hear the music. Which is fun but I wouldn't have been able to tell you if it sounded good or not.
  3. This. A lot of company play on that guilt. That "do it for your colleagues" thing. The company has its share of the responsibility. Slightly related, I am sure a lot of the below members of the audiences will bring home some part of this festival. (If you don't want tot see the whole thing, forward to 2.30. Grab a tissue too.
  4. As a (current) EU citizen at the fest then, there was a (thin) silver lining in seeing how people cared about it...
  5. I'm guessing you read the art of not giving a F*** book? Anyway, not a flaw in my view. You have to give a f*** about what matters. Annoying customers? Doesn't matter. Going above and beyond at work even for annoying customers? F*** that S*** . Will you remember going above and beyond for them in 10 years. No. Will you remember all the nice walks? Yeah you will, even if it's just the feeling they gave you. To get back to the festival, it is a concentration of everything that we should give a f*** about. Art, being together with people without too much BS ("oooh that one's outfit is soooo 2019..."), being in a nice valley, having a good meal, enjoy the sun and the rain. The intensity of the experience is something to take home to focus on the non festival equivalents. Enjoying a song, smiling to a stranger, wait until a blackbird has finished digging in your garden to go in (yes, real life example obviously ). This is what we should give a f*** about. I was off work for a few months a couple of years ago for being "overworked" because I gave too much of a f***. Believe me this has stopped. The festival reminds me of what matters yearly, should I go down the wrong path again. End of rant.
  6. It's a pity indeed because I can imagine how magical the (daytime) SE corner must be to a child!
  7. Yes I did a round late afternoon Thursday to check out the new Shangri-la theme (fun for 10 mn...), and from seeing how little flow there as there, and rightly anticipating how busy it would be later on with people like me in the mood for something loud and guitary, we decided to just not even try. Not to restart this discussion but read about people who went there in the evening with prams and had a terrible time...
  8. Yes at the same time than pre-erected and Campervan spots. A bit after the ticket sales.
  9. Maybe a sh*tty advice: find something you kind of like doing and that doesn't involve lots of travel time to get there/is at inconvenient times. A lot of people in the 2023 thread smashed it by doing long walks. But maybe finding a random group of people playing football on sunday afternoon may be your thing. 80s aerobics when the kids are sleeping? Go for it.
  10. Very true! Unless you book something for double the amount of people staying, you won't get the equivalent of a nice porch to chill at. Maybe more space outside but if raining, not so much. People are not necessarily better behaved... I saw a guy pee against the fence (although the urinals were about 3 mn walk). Then the morning after tons of people bringing their mat at that same spot because it was in the shade. I believe there was a poo incident in the men's shower too. ๐Ÿ˜จ
  11. It had a " busy Asian street" feel. I felt like crossing a busy road in Vietnam. It looks very scary but if you just go with the flow smoothly, it all works out by magic ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. It felt fine for us but then, when I saw how busy Truth was end of Thursday afternoon, I decided not to even try the earache gigs later on. So probably more of a "anticipating overcrowding" experience for us. We witnessed the migration from Fred Again to AM and that was quite something though, I even made a movie of it. It didn't feel dangerous though and I had some fun crossing that (thinking of that frog crossing a busy road game). And once again, the famous crust at most gigs, pass the crust (side of tents, people who don't want to be far from the bar, want a quick exit) = have plenty of space. I was quite shocked to see how even the far away campgrounds were quite full on Thursday (Bailey's etc). Not super nice for those arriving that day so may push people even more to arrive early and not really nice either for Thursday coach folks, especially as Pylon has gone. I am very curious on what the campground map will look like next year.
  13. The arcadia one way was a bit of a pain getting to Sticklinch, especially when a steward sends people to the park to go around... In terms of value for money, it's really a fine line between these and general. If they increase the prices as much as they did this year it definitely would make me reconsider next year.
  14. I double checked my pic didn't have any of that nonsense ๐Ÿ™‚ Side note, not a fan of flags with a top bar thingy to keep them nicely opened (not sure what that's called, like the flags at west holts for example). Yes, make sure the WHOLE SURFACE of your flag is at all times visible to all, great!
  15. Coming from another country and by public transport I do have issues being called a posh c*nt for going to pricey-ish WV. Are you all camping in a 2 person tent in general? How about campervans then? I do find some of those prices crazy but as long as there is space for everyone and tickets don't get reserved for glampers (there are some I know) then what's the deal?

    CMAT

Kudos as well to the security joining the two step dance as well, they didn't have to and were probably fed up already with having to learn the Rick Astley routine ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. OK there is ONE thing I have to mention here. Some of you may have experimented the Monday queue for London coaches. Accidents, traffic, whatever, it happens. BUT our coach left with about 3 or 4 seats empty, while the queue was still extending to gate A. I really don't get that. See kept on saying "it's not in our power to make things go faster because traffic stewards etc" well here yes it was. Get in the bus, have a quick look, get 4 more people back home.
  18. Beth Orton actually headlined Avalon a few years ago. I counted that we saw 3 "white male" acts during the whole fest. Clashes show the wealth of acts. And sometimes it's between artists you can put in similar "groups". I think that saying the fest hates female acts is pushing it a bit far.
  19. I have a pic of this one ๐Ÿ™‚ can't post it just yet but will do so later on! It was "Coachella is w*nk" to be precise!
  20. Didn't see it but thoroughly approve ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. I quite like people who put random objects on a stick or have those inflatable animal heads. Kept on chuckling yesterday at Kermit dancing with Sharleen Spiteri on the BBC replay. I was quite fond of a duck too. And shout out to Steve the Monkey at Woodsies. They block the view less, and although they are less visible from afar, just give a vague idea of where you are when your mates are looking for you. When they get closer they'll spot you.
