    Wolf Alice

I was thinking about this and I think we all commonly predicted acts like Bastille, Foals, The Vaccines, Two Door etc to move up to Pyramid sub/Other headline around album three but it never really happened for any of them, apart from Foals on the following album. Although I’ve been predicting them for a bigger slot, based on tour dates Wolf Alice probably fit into that category pretty well. Wolf Alice are very much forum favourites, so we’re more likely to discuss them more and overestimate them compared to someone like Bastille. I know they‘re headlining Latitude but Foals, Two Door and The Maccabees were all booked to headline there before or around the same time as playing big Other stage slots.
  4. I’m happy to count it. My number 1 last month was a 6 track album that was just over 30 minutes, so no reason why a long EP like that can’t be considered.
  5. Well spotted, I spent ages making sure I had updated everything but obviously not well enough! Updated now.
  6. I figured I'd start this while I remembered. It's certainly been a much more interesting month than July with a few big releases so far and more to come on Friday. The Killers doing Nebraska, Big Red Machine roping in Taylor Swift and a load of indie favourites as well as Lorde and her crystal skulls. We all know how it works by now but the rules are here just in case. Here is a reminder of the rules: Contest window: Any album released in August Entry window: between the last 0:00 Friday of the month in question to 23:59 the first Thursday of the month following (this time that's 27th August - 2nd September). The system: Choose any three albums released during the month in question in order of preference. The best receives three points, second best two points and the third best one point. See example below: 1. Album A (3 POINTS) 2. Album B (2 POINTS) 3. Album C (1 POINT) Any entries that say "so many good records. Can't choose! So in no particular order..." indicate a complete lack of understanding of simple gamesmanship. Votes from those entries will, obviously, be completely ignored. Everyone else, I will assume the order they are listed is the order of preference. Even if you number it 1. 2. 3. I will assume that is in order of favourite and not the points you are giving unless expressed otherwise.

    Lorde

When yer man Buggy tops the album charts next week
  8. In case anyone can’t wait, they played this and a few other new ones at a gig at the weekend, videos on this person’s channel
  9. An hour long set at lunchtime which ends up being 5 songs, one of which is Cold Day in the Sun and another is the Queen medley.
  10. I think she’s still free on the Friday isn’t she? Glastonbury > Manchester > Dublin seems quite likely to me.
  11. I wonder if the mixed reaction to their IOW set a few years ago might put them off. As you say, the festival seem keen on having them but the band don’t seem to be as interested and while Glastonbury is obviously a much bigger deal, I wouldn’t be surprised if they viewed it as something they don’t really need to bother with when they can play big gigs elsewhere. Hopefully they saw how well The Cure’s set was received in 2019 though and think they can do something similar. With the presumably large backlog of headliners, most of whom are probably easier to book too, I don’t think we’ll get them on this tour anyway but I definitely see them as a contender over the next decade or so. The number of heritage acts is always decreasing and they’re one of the few big ones left that we know the festival are keen, so I think they’ll make more of an effort to get them while they can.
  12. Maybe Kings of Leon wouldn’t be so bad after all…
  13. I agree that the same arguments were made for The Killers before their sets in 2017 and 2019 but I think them being a much better live act than Kings of Leon is a factor too. I think The Killers have been a consistently good live band for a while now whereas you hardly ever hear anyone raving about a Kings of Leon gig, admittedly it was about 10 years ago but they were very much going through the motions both times I’ve seen them. They’re still too big to sub and I certainly don’t think we’ll see them headlining anytime soon but wouldn’t rule it out as a heritage booking at some point. I watched their 2008 headline set when it was on iPlayer last month and I was surprised at how good it was, Glastonbury got them at exactly the right time didn’t they? They seemed like a pretty polished and accomplished live band at that time playing songs from the first three albums plus a couple from the fourth. Obviously they became a much bigger act shortly after headlining but in terms of quality of songs and performance I think the festival got that one spot on.
  14. Has he had info about him? I thought that was just a guess based on his tour dates.
  15. I had been thinking that they'd skip festivals next year and wait until 2023 and start with the Sheffield dates, a bit like they did for Suck It and See, but this seems a very good shout. I think for AM they started with European festivals in 2013, the album came out in September, arena tour later that year then back round for more festivals (TITP, R&L) in 2014. Something similar could work here, with the Sheffield dates as a sort of victory lap to round things off. I don't think it's quite as well rounded as the original 2020 trio but Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Arctic Monkeys would be a pretty balanced trio and there's something there for most people.
  16. I'd be pretty happy with that, loads of clashes Friday evening as always. Tyler is an interesting shout, I reckon he'd be an Other headliner rather than Pyramid sub but that would be a really great booking. I don't think Phoenix would play that high up these days, 4th/5th down on Other or headlining JP again for them if they're back. Fontaines DC look pretty low down too, they'd be a Park headliner these days but more likely 3rd/4th down on Other. I think you've got CHVRCHES bang on though.

    Billie Eilish

That was for 2014, I’m sure those three were the rumoured headliners in 2013 over the summer but I don’t think any were ever TBC, there might have been an article on the website saying there was info about them headlining but I’m sure they were never down as TBC. As @Gnomicidesays, Coldplay in 2015 is the only headliner who’s went TBC and not headlined from what I can remember. I’m sure this was ruled out by Emily in an interview Neil had with her that year, although obviously Coldplay went on to headline the following year anyway so it’s possible there was just a misunderstanding somewhere along the way with that rumour.
  18. 10 months away and I’m stressing about clashes already. Fair play if they have managed that. Billie Eilish is a massive headliner and I had QOTSA down as a too small to headline but very big sub, so getting them as an Other headliner is a pretty big deal. They’re certainly a fair bit bigger now than they were when they last played there.
  19. Both are TBC This is exciting isn’t it? Properly feels like things are getting back to normal when we’ve got genuine rumours to talk about.
  20. Dua Lipa too, I think she's the most likely backup for either Kendrick or Taylor.
  21. Kendrick was meant to be playing Les Ardentes rather than Rock Werchter this summer anyway, so it's possible he'll be announced for that next year too. Still early days.
  22. This is from 2016 but Elton said he’d never been asked to headline, despite touring around Glastonbury for several years prior to that as shown above. Obviously next year could be slightly different when it’s the last proper chance to get him, but it does feel like an Elton John headline set isn’t really one of their priorities and personally I don’t see that changing next year.
  23. 1. Midwife - Luminol 2. Clairo - Sling 3. Drug Store Romeos - The World Within Our Bedrooms
  24. Let’s just get Lizzo to headline if Kendrick’s not touring
