  1. This clash was already stressing me out two years ago before the postponement. 😬
  2. Ah, got it. Lack of reading comprehension there clearly. 🙃
  3. Wait what, are we saying Dua / Lil Nas X collab? 👀
  4. Opening a Pyramid headline set with Physical would be a moment for sure. 🤩 Not very convinced it's likely, but you never know... I'd also be a bit disappointed with so few of her earlier songs, but artists tend to switch it up anyway for Glastonbury. If she does play then I suspect there will be a few surprises.
  5. Deleted 'cos I'm talking nonsense. Carry on... ☺️
  6. Didn't think that one all the way through did he... Like everything else he does.
  7. 😂 😂 😂 Top trolling of this forum by the BBC there.
  8. Meh, outside of the UK they're playing the same venues, and she's doing 11 UK arena dates, including 2 nights at the O2, v his 5 stadium ones. Fair point on ticket sales though.
  9. Especially given the festival's focus on a 50:50 split between men & women headlining, would be a tough one to justify Harry taking precedence over Dua as headliner, surely? Or am I wildly off base in judging his popularity?
  10. Memory's a funny beast, I would have absolutely sworn that The Prodigy were Pyramid sub before Radiohead that year. Huh. 🥴
  11. FFS don’t say that, I haven’t been since 2016 and the mud that year nearly did me in. 😭 A 6 year break and the first festival back another soggy one would be too cruel.
  12. Yeah, but the Brexit electoral reality distortion effect is now far less of a factor. The Tories haven’t really got anything to replace this to unify the weird coalition that voted for them in 2019. Yes there are many other factors at play, but IMO this is one of the most significant - and one the Tories are most worried about.
  13. I saw somebody earlier* suggest Starmer was expecting the report to already have been available in time for PMQs - if he was working on this basis it might explain a bit of the lack of impact. I agree he could have done better, but OTOH, let's see how Johnson's responses (or non-responses 😠) stack up once the report is published... *I thought it was someone on here but can't find the post? Might have been on Twitter instead.
  14. If there's ever anything to make you despair of this country it's bloody PMQs. 🙄 Agree totally with the principle of the PM being accountable to Parliament, but when it just descends into yah boo shouting from the benches, shameless failure to answer questions and cheap points scoring, no wonder people are losing faith in politics. What a shitshow.
  15. Dear god, nothing is more terrifying than the thought of Johnson in charge during any sort of armed conflict. Genuine nightmare scenario, he’d probably try to make a joke & accidentally invade the Canary Islands or something. 😬
  16. Huh, OK - of course Glastonbury memories aren't always the clearest, but I thought I'd have remembered that. Clearly I'm an even more unreliable witness than I'd thought...
  17. Ooops... My last festival was 2016, when I'm pretty sure everything was still cash only. Prob should have checked my facts before posting but where's the fun in that... 😂 Were there a lot of places taking card / contactless in 2019 - what about the bars?
  18. I'm no payment expert but I think using your own card requires internet access so the card machine can talk to the bank network in real time & verify the payment. With a wristband, it can be set up so the wristband tech essentially has a digital wallet with a running balance. You spend £5 on a growler, the £5 is deducted from your balance and credited to the vendor's device - no internet connection needed right then. Obviously it all has to sync up at some point. Personally I think if it's going cashless then it has to be 100% cashless - trying to work in both cash & digital payments would be a nightmare for vendors.
  19. Hah hah, I saw that earlier and immediately thought of this thread.

    Adele

Random question, but how much is it fair to blame the artist when something like this happens? Obviously there will have been a massive production team working on this. Whoever was in charge of that fucked up by not managing things properly - in particular, not making the call to postpone earlier. But ultimately would Adele have chosen that person - so the buck stops with her? I dunno. There's something about music & gigs that puts a greater responsibility on performers for the entire production, and I don't know enough about the industry to know if that's fair or not...
  21. Fun fact - that video was not pure CGI - some serious effort going on here: Regarding the source material, I thought it was an original story ‘cos they don’t have the rights to The Silmarillion? Basically set in a period that Tolkien sketched out but never really detailed? Might be wrong about that though.
  22. That very question puts an importance on ideology that not everyone - voters or MPs - shares. Some MPs genuinely get into politics because they want to do their best as a representative for their constituency, and they'll join whichever party allows them to do so - even if they have to vote for a bunch of things they don't entirely agree with. Looked at through a more cynical lens: some MPs genuinely get into politics because of ambition and a burning desire for power, and they'll join whichever party facilitates this - even if they have to vote for a bunch of things they don't entirely agree with. And for voters, yes beliefs matter, but so does character and action on local issues. If an MP is seen to be "doing a good job" with things that voters in the constituency care about, then they can still win elections even when their ideology is shockingly out of step with the electorate. Basically, people are complicated and ideology isn't everything.
  23. A bit like soliciting cash from rich connections to pay for your interior decoration… it’s a level of sheer shamelessness I just can’t comprehend. Nothing about Johnson should surprise me by now and yet somehow it does. 😐
  24. The whole metaverse/crypto/web3 discourse has been so totally polluted by crooks, hype merchants and con artists that I can’t take it seriously right now. There is the potential for something truly transformational in amongst the bullshit… but I can’t imagine what that looks like, or what it means for something like Glastonbury. If I was in my 20s now I’d probably be all over it, but frankly I don’t have the time or energy to dive into it all! 🙃 IMO, to build a true shared virtual world then some profoundly difficult challenges with interface technology need to be solved. Oculus & all that are amazing, but it’s still a long long way from where it needs to be. On a more philosophical note I’m really uncomfortable with the idea of humans retreating into some utopian virtual playground. It’s bad enough with todays social media - how much worse if people could genuinely immerse themselves in another reality? So yeah… I’m sceptical.
