Much improved toilets . Can’t quite remember when the onsite portaloos dissapeared might have been a fair bit earlier but the facilities are much better looked after in my opinion these days

The portaloos were gone by 2014 I'm pretty sure. 2013 was my first and I surely remember those.

Easy for you to say. Do you live in latin america? You know they dont get gigs every damn day like you do? Might be the only thing they can go to or even afford for an entire year. Remember how spoiled you are in this regard.

This is not the reason this happens, even if it is true that compared to Europe, we get far fewer gigs. But these corporate festivals like Lollapalooza are full of middle-upper class kids/young adults who are all about their social media. They are not poor and can afford stuff like this and more. Like the south american version of Coachella.
I've been to the first 4 or 5 of them here. But each year it seems these festivals lean way more into that social group.

We have plenty of people that can afford stuff like this (specially in the big cities) although obviously way more people cannot.
Lollapalooza has been happening here, in Brazil and Chile for about 10 years now. Primavera landed here as well, two years ago. That's because there's enough people that can afford it. Although in our particular case (ARG) that trend might stop very soon.

  3. SZA is definitely the most interesting and exciting headliner. Although most acts would be compared to the other two.

  4. Pretty meh for me but If I could go, I'd be quite thrilled as I'd have 1 or 2 must sees away from the Pyramid each day. No headliner in the Pyramid for the first time sounds great.

IDLES or Fontaines/Jessie Ware/The National is pretty great.

  5. SZA is headlining festivals around the world, FWIW. She'll headline Lollapalooza over here in about two weeks. Although another one of the headliners is Limp Bizkit so I'm not sure how credible that is...

    CTRL is a great album.

  6. The National closing Other would be perfect.

The Pyramid slot in 2017 was the worst place for them. And on top of that, they decided to play new songs for half of their set.

Fontaines really didn't have a big crowd on The Other Stage.

Not small, but certainly not big.

They were going against Diana Ross.
Definitely not a huge crowd. I was there and could get to the front easily.

  8. As a foreigner who doesn't post anything on social media anymore, I was able to completely isolate myself from the world the 5 times I've been there. I didn't even have a working cellphone the first 3 times (2013, 14 an 16). I found out the world cup results by walking through some stall which had the scores from the day before written in chalk. Good times!  Wish I could go back sometime....

  9. The funniest thing is people who only like a couple of songs in the set and when that song is played, they choose to watch it in their tiny screen.

Also, completely pointless: people who film the screens!

Just get a couple of quick pictures and enjoy the gig. I hate people who record long videos.

Was just reading about this guy. Sounds like an absolute nutcase. Besides the insane politics he also claims he has spoken to God in visions, is a tantric sex teacher and cloned his dog.

Argentina has long been a basket case. I guess the natural reaction to that must be to elect the oddest person you can find?

It will be interesting anyway. If he implements the sort of pure austrian economics he claims to believe in then when that fails then maybe we can at least point to that as being an example of how all and any attempts at free market economics dont work in the way that folk on the right use the extreme and irrelevant example of the soviet union as to why even moderate democratic socialism cant work.

Oh it will never work. It's all lunacy. I'm seriously out of words for what's happening here. Not only he is a lunatic and most of his ideas are not viable. He will sell every public office. Education, Healthcare, Culture, etc...all gone to private sector.
Not only that but he is backed by the people who still support the military coup of the 70s, who deny the genocide that happened, deny climate change, etc...I mean, libertarians, you get the picture.

Also, whatever works or doesn't work in a latin american country cannot be compared to a Western European country. Completely different contexts.

This is what always happens with fascism, right? Years of crisis, corruption, poverty...then you add weak leaders (our president has been a complete ghost the last year), ignorance and stupidity boosted by (social) media, young votes who are oblivious of anything that happened before their time...and somebody who claims he is an outsider.

I am terrified. And so mad at everyone right now....specially when you think people you love voted for this. I mean, 55%....

  11. I really do think that if the festival encouraged people not to bring their flags to the stage, a lot of them would stop doing it. Not everybody, but it would get a bit better at least.

It might be naive but I think most of the people with flags haven't even thought about others not seeing the stage.

I think smokers and talkers are a bigger issue than flags though. 😆

  12. Glastonbury highlights are being shown in international flights. Social media doesn't help either. It's everywhere now.

Best thing you can do is maximize your chances. Try every single sale (coach, general, coach resale, general resale). And as many people trying as you can.

I got tickets for 5 of the 6 times I've tried and we're only two people trying. But we tried every sale.

This is close to the stage and I couldn't see much of it.
Double flags for somebody's kids pictures.
Double maradona/soda stereo flag from an argentinian who I have no relation to 😅
    Another double flag although higher.
Another flag with somebody's many pictures which aren't even visible.
    A huge smily face one.
What's the point of all of these?

1: Are there any HQ crowd pictures from Elton John? Would love to have new desktop background:)

2: I guess there is no alternative way watching Iplayer outside UK? Only YT clips

VPN. I got one for the month and it works quite well. Could watch the whole thing on iPlayer.

  15. I don't have anybody to help. It's just me and my wife. We tried for 6 festivals and got tickets for 5. We tried every sale. I think that's important. You are increasing your chances by 4. No tricks. Have all your registration and CC details ready for copy and paste and be persistent the whole time.

I do think it'll be even more difficult now if they keep the new payment system.

My biggest complaint would be the lack of Lion King songs or any real deep cuts. But it was so special it really doesn’t feel like it mattered. Got to be the best ever. Just wonderful.

Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters would have been nice. And with Kate Hudson there 😄
