  1. I am trying for friends in the resale this weekend.I already got tickets in the original sale.

So if i am not purchasing a ticket myself is the lead booker just the person i put in first on the order ? Also I assume that using my credit card wont be a problem even though the name doesnt match anyone on the tickets.

  2. You can slightly determine the side of the festival in which you will be parked by considering the route you take to the festival.

If you appraoch from the north you will be directed to the car park fields at that side, if you approach from the south you will get directed to the car parks on the south eg East car parks which service PG3 etc. we travel from the north and deliberately go further down the M5 so that we approach from the south. you will be directed to the car park that they are currently filling which ever side you arrive at and it may be near or far from the pedestrian gates, it is all pot luck at that point.

  3. I have to admit i am a bit of a DM addict. i am not generally brand loyal but I lurve docs :D

i've had about 3 pairs of doc shoes, 4 pairs of pull on/dealer boot style 2 pairs of doc sandals and 3 pairs of boots over 30 odd years. my longest wearing pair are green nubuck leather/suede boots I bought 30 years ago. I wore them for 15 years then my feet got slightly bigger in pregnancy and they never fit quite right afterwards. but my teenage daughter has been wearing them for a few years now. ( she says most of my wardrobe is sh!t but has extracted a few gems including the docs and my jimi hendrix and mighty boosh t-shirts  ). I have particular affection for the green ones as I remember seeing Blur at the town and country club in Leeds about 20 years ago and overdoing it somewhat near the front. My ancle was swollen and I was quite drunk and woke up the following morning still wearing them.

my docs for life are truly marvellous but I am ashamed to admit how much they cost me. I bought them full price and they were fantastically comfortable from day one. I would love a pair of the 'Vonda' ladies high boots with the beautiful roses emroidered up the side but it would be extravegant as I have 4 pairs on the go already plus the old ones my daughter wears.

I will stop now as I could engage in DM admiration for several hours and send everyone to sleep.

  4. I havent had a need to break in DM's for many years. the long ones and the pull on ones didnt need it and my newest pair are the DM's for life range which are a lot more expensive than the standard range but the leather is more supple I think it is marinaded in oil or something.

way back when i used to break them in I cant remember what I did other than wear plasters at the back of the heel and thick socks. If they arent softening up you could try liberally applying the original dubbing or the new renovating cream from the doc shop. or a more cheap version you could try would be vaseline or hand cream. good luck hope they feel good soon and well done breaking them in well before the festival.

  5. DM's for me too, I love them and have many pairs.

Been wearing them at glastonbury festival for over 20 years now - in particular long ones with ribbon laces which are my current fave for glasto as they protect me from the deeper mud. Which reminds me I must give them some tlc with renovating cream or dubbing after last year's mud bath.

I also have the dealer boot style pull on ones which are excellent for sunny glasto's you can sit down, take em off, and park your pint upright in one - no chance of knocking it over then :D

  6. i dont understand why they let you buy more than one camper van ticket on one registration number in one transaction. Even if you are in a convoy you can only physically be in one van when you enter the festival. I needed 2 and assuming they will be applying the named CV ticket next year ( unlike this year with the omnishambles in the campervan fields)  I went in twice and used 2 registration numbers.

Also I was thrown a bit by the time of arrival question I assume that is just for the festival management as I don't think they could enforce it too well  especially as we had no prior warning of the question.

  7. Many congratulations Alan

We took our daughter to her first Glastonbury when she was 9 months old and she has now been to them all over the last 15 years.

We had been going for about 10 years before she came along so we were happy to do a good mixture of kids stuff and stuff for us. The kids field is absolutely fantastic and a jewel of the festival you don't get to see without kids.

    best of luck

Yes I will be back next year, for me the place is a bit like a Mecca, I have to get there each year to reset my brain and remind myself that the world is still an OK place.

That being said, there are some things about the festival that I wish would change.

Firstly, Arcadia. Yes, it looks bloody cool, I'm not disputing it. But for me, it's just not Glastonbury. It's too dark, too ravey, and seems to attract a really shit crowd. Not saying everyone who goes there is shit but it's one of the places on site where I do encounter a lot of dickheads. Plus, the mud situation there was unbearable, as it is every time it rains. One friend had a panic attack during Andy C because people were constantly pushing into her and she was stuck in the mud. My other friend sprained her ankle for the same reason.

The other thing is Shangrila. I bloody hate it. It's too much like organised fun, and again, too crowded, too muddy & chaotic. I find that people, when put in that situation late at night and under the influence, can become quite pushy & inconsiderate.

I'm not disputing that the concept is very cool - I go there in the day time to have a browse and I like what they're trying to do. But the execution of it makes it a completely unenjoyable experience.

For me, the magic of Glastonbury is about the festival's ethos. The green element, the magic of the location, the whole feeling of love and support of one another. And of course, the music.

If I want a festival where I can just rave the night away, there's Creamfields and the like. That's not what I want from Glastonbury, and it never used to be like that.

Perhaps I'm just still craving the magic of my first few times. In 2007, my first year, there was no Arcadia, Park, or Shangrila.

And the thing I loved so much about that experience was the ability to simply wander around after dark, and happen upon a random bar playing tunes with people dancing in the rain, or coming across the bandstand with a whole crowd of people with kazoos humming theme tunes to game shows. It was all truly random, and totally magic for me.

The stone circle was full of hippies playing bongos, people chatting, fires and the like. Now it's a place for getting whatever drugs you need.

This year, and for the past few years, I'm finding it way too messy and ravey, a bit of a darker element at night (and I'm not talking about lack of sunlight!) and I am having fewer and fewer random experiences and find myself getting frustrated with the constant bottle necks.

I suppose because Shangrila and Arcadia are considered to be the late night areas, people just flock there after the headliners, which makes that corner of the site unbearable for me.

In summary, for me, it's all getting a bit too messy and ravey. Don't get me wrong, I love to get a bit high myself, but it's all about setting, and I dunno, the constant boom boom tick tick that's so prevalent now (rather than just sporadically through the festival) adds a ravey, messy element, that detracts from the festival's ethos for me.

I just miss being able to bimble around without hearing constant rave tunes, and getting caught in crowds of fucked people.

Day times still a-ok for me, just more crowded than I've ever experienced before.

I'll still keep going and hope they just cut down on all the clubby stuff, bring back Lost Vagueness and get shot of Arcadia. Will it ever happen??

I am just catching up with this thread, but Skoo reflects how i feel about the festival too, in particular the first sentence, I have been to the last 19 and hope to be back next year to make it 20 if the ticket gods are kind to us in October.

  9. this was my 19th glastonbury and as others have said the time to travel anywhere be it just to the loos or across the site to different stages was particularly arduous and time consuming this year. In the years I have been going to the festival there have been about 5 very muddy ones, this one was perhaps the worst because the mud was widespread, very deep and the type that pulls your boots off. Also there was only one day when it dried out nicely.

The rainfall during the festival was not that bad really it was mainly light with a few heavy patches, but the conditions underfoot were really challenging, due to the rain before we all arrived on site.

Stardustjunkie,  don't be too sad you aren't on your own, I think a lot of us would have seen more bands and done more stuff if it weren't for the mud this year. Hoping this means the tickets for next year won't go in a nanosecond.

  10. how many camper van tickets was it possible to purchase in the ticket sale ?

Ive been going for over 20 years but only the last 3 in a van and in the panic to just get our tickets I haven't really noticed in the last few years if it was possible to buy several to then sell on at a profit.

I remember well the outrageous touting of tickets post the new fence but pre registering days and agree wholeheartedly with the new registration system. But had camper van tickets been changing hands at inflated prices in the pass few years to the extent that was it necessary to name the van tickets.

If you can only buy them at the same time as your actual tickets or when paying the balance as it was until this year I would have thought only a few would change hands, were many people adding a campervan ticket they didnt need just to sell on ?

  11. Hi Sawdusty, I hope your injuries are healing and you are able to enjoy the festival despite it all. I was on crutches a couple of summers ago and it was a good excuse to sit back and supervise   although I did get completely fed up not being able to get things done, very frustrating ! and getting in and out of the van on crutches was a right rigmorole :(

As we are now just a couple of weeks from Glastonbury I just wanted to check that you are still not expecting to sell candles this year ?

  12. in the camper van fields you are directed to the next available space in the field they are currently filling. So no choice ( but there is a small amount of rearraging awnings and group vans etc within each allotted space once the stewards have moved on). Within the perimeter fence the tent dwellers can pitch up wherever there is room.

  13. we have only had to resort to the April resale once in over 20 years. That was in 2014.

from memory it lasted less than 15 minutes and we got ours 2 or 3 minutes in.

as already mentioned there are a lot less tickets but a lot less people trying. I think we found it difficult to get on the booking page for the first few minutes but after that it was OK.

I wish you the very best of luck,

get as many people trying as possible and make sure you are all well organized with all the details you need ready to be cut and pasted onto the booking page. the main worry is that with the speed it is all over you might not get all the details submitted which is why it's so important to be really organized.

Someone has to buy those resale tickets so don't be downhearted you have as much chance as anyone.

It's a long time to wait from October to April it was in the back of mind right throughout when we were in that situation, but not too long to go now.

I've heard good things about the vibe at Bearded Theory. Can anyone else comment who has actually been?

agree with Stuwilky been to the last 2 BT's and it is indeed very chilled, but smaller. also good for us as being in the North it's much closer to us.

we tried Beautiful Days last time it was the fallow year at Glastonbury and have been every year since ( think we've been 4 times now). Also very chilled and family friendly like BT.

not tried Boomtown but we are tempted as it sounds a bit like Glastonbury was over 20 years when we started going, and people on here and elsewhere write good things about it.

We have been to Kendal Calling once but being in the lake district it pretty much rained the whole weekend. the line up is reasonably strong but you cant take your own in and the prices and choice of food and drink we thought poor. Dont want to be too negative it had a good atmosphere.

We always said we would only do Glastonbury but after going to Beautiful Days we now do 3,4 or 5 a year.

Hope you have a great time whichever festival you find yourself at this year.

  15. i have done glastonbury with a baby also. she was 8 months old on the first one and has been to every one since.

A sling is not a bad idea as a back up and a break from pushing a buggy if it gets muddy.

RainbowChild's trailer sounds very good if you can aquire/ borrow one. big weells are better than small. but they all get clogged with mud eventually.

we have used a fold up maclaren for a couple of years ( did ok but not great in the deep mud and one wheel fell off in the mud going back to car, a very kind teenager stuck his hand in a pool of mud to retrieve it for me, may good festival karma follow him all his days )

we bought a second hand three wheeler large buggy. That did a bit better but the front wheel came free of the axle, the screw sheered off. I fixed that by pushing a tent peg through instead and whacking it with the mallet to form a right angle which did pretty well. mr gumby's tip pulling instead of pushing is a good especially when you get tired.

when she was a bit older ( 5 or 6 I think ) we took a fold up fabric base wheel barrow for her to sleep in during the evening - disaster it filled with rain cos I couldn't  fashion a suitable rain hood for it and she was v uncomfortable just with the shape. resorted to just taking a camping chair but accepted the lack of mobility.

hope you have lots of fun, kids field is fabulous ( i miss it a bit, she's 14 now and last year we didnt even pop in for nostalgia's sake, a bit sad for me)

  16. the only artist I still really want to see live before i shuffle off this mortal coil is Tom Waits. But I expect there is almost zero chance of this happening at Glastonbury, but if it did happen the ideal stage would be in the circus big top it would suit his slightly macabre ringmaster persona, it would be a bit small of course but this is all pure fantasy anyway.

From the options you offer it has got to be Elton, Crocodile Rock, Rocket Man, Saturday Night etc would be brilliant on a hot sunny afternoon at the pyramid stage.
