this poll gives a pretty similar response most years I reckon . 13% giving up ticket currently

I'd make the assumption that the "just browsing" votes are people who do not have tickets but want to see the results, therefore of the ticket holders, you're looking at 19% passing up their tickets.

mmm... well i can only speak for myself obviously...

but i love (or loved) Bruce... i've followed him all over the place over many many years...

at the present time my feelings are that Bruce can get to f**k.

so not sure that really squares with the theory?

I swerved on Bruce last summer simply because of the price.

Another element at play is the "last chance to see..." factor which is the case with Bruce and AC/DC this summer. Not definitely the last tour for these guys, but potentially the case and so people will pay. Pearl Jam will defo tour again, so I don't mind missing them for a show or two.

Remember this from last summer. Def Leppard and Motley Crue at Wembley. This is what happens when you price out your own fans.
i hoped scenes like this would have triggered a rethink by the industry, but it seems they're doubling down.

  4. I remain utterly appalled by these Pearl jam prices. 2022 we paid £70 per ticket or £120 for 2 shows. I don't know how they can justify more than doubling the ticket price in just two years. For the time being I am out. Maybe pick up something on the secondary market closer to the day.

Also keen to see Springsteen and AC/DC this summer, all similarly priced.  Tickets to see stadium acts have indeed become a luxury item.

Pearl Jam prices (via Ten Club) are insane.
£160.00 for Manchester (seated or standing)
£157.50 for London (seated or standing)
    €177.00 for Dublin (golden circle)
    €175.00 for Berlin.

I didn't look at Barcelona but imagine the same.

Hard pass at that price. Turned off the Ten Club renewal too.

f**k that. Pretty sure I paid less than that for Hyde Park '22, and saw TWO shows.

Line up has been expanded. Nothing mind-blowing for me, but Pretenders, Marr and Feeder are reliable festival performers I'd be happy to catch - hopefully they don't clash with anyone else.
This line-up is mega Radio 2 friendly, and maybe that's the market they're going for so hard to get excited by it being cutting edge or anything. But in that niche they've done very well indeed and this is the best line-up they've had for a few years. I'm looking forward to it.

Post of the year. I need to know how you did this....

    Thank you.

It just so happened that I was watching Youtube vid about AI tools and then saw the ongoing discussion after @The Nal's original poetry, and @Quark's suggestion. I wanted to try it out anyway, and this felt like a fun way to do it.

https://fakeyou.com is the place to go for the voice. I edited it easily enough in Premiere to create a video. My first attempt got blocked by Youtube because I had some authentic Shawshank tune in the background. So I quickly improv'd and recorded the backing track myself.

Also, the costs of drinks in these venues is outrageous!

O2 in Bristol beer is now about £8. I'm sure it was under £7 just a year ago. The massive price rise has been so quick, some of the out of date bar price signs were still up when i last went.

  9. I wonder if the shock at the general rise in pricing is shared only by those of us who have been around for a while. I remember buying tix for stadium gigs for £25 (in the 90s), which even if counting on inflation is way less than the £100+ which is now standard. But is it possible that for twenty-somethings, this is just the normal cost of doing business. Expensive for sure, but worth it for the experience.

Is this one of the curses of growing old - we remember how cheap things used to be, and even if we can afford the higher prices, we cannot shake off the feeling that we're being robbed?

Can you get someone to record a reading of that passage and add it to your playlist? Morgan Freeman perhaps.

I spoke to Morgan and he was happy to help...

General belief (going back at least 20 years) is that Michael would be desperate to get them, but that they're miles out of the price range and have no interest whatsoever in accepting less.

Personally I'd also take the view that reports of their live shows sound like there's zero on stage chemistry so they wouldn't be a great choice anyway.

I saw Eagles in 2004 on their "Fairwell I" tour. Great music and well-played, but in terms of a thrilling performance, it was very average. And that's when Frey was shouldering a lot of it, so no idea what they'd be like now. Glad I saw them, but no desire to see them again, especially with 20 more years on them. The only one really giving it some was Joe Walsh, so I'd rather see him solo, or with James Gang.

  12. My favourite music ones lately have been:

    • The Album Years with Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness

Porcupine Tree main man and No Man pal talk classic albums. They are total muso nerds and this is both entertaining and insightful.

    • Wind of Change

The story behind the CIA writing the Scorpions hit.

I enjoy sciencey podcasts too, so recommend:

    • The Bomb
    • The missing Crypto Queen
    • 13 minutes to the moon
    • Computing Britain
    • Think with pinker
    • The Lazarus Heist

Keen to get any recommendations for any that are similar to those. I hate to say it, but I really don't enjoy comedy podcasts.

My local venue has just announced that it needs to raise around 30k in the next few weeks to stay open. It's such a depressing landscape at the moment for small music venues.

very sad news. Having just lost Moles here in Bath, I empathise.

Would be nice if the big venues helped out, but don't see it happening soon.

I really wish some artists would step up, maybe those that have been through the venues on the way up. Eg. If they could get someone like Manics or Suede in to Moles, they could charge maybe £100 as a fund-raiser. Seeing bands of that scale in such a small place would be worth the cash, and would raise plenty to go towards keeping them alive.

Wonder if Michael will turn it down.i was once told by someone who knows Michael well that years ago he'd talked about the possibility of turning down an award of he was offered one

No. Recipients are approached well in advance and only after they accept are announcements made. Bowie turned one down apparently, but it was revealed years later.
