If they turned down Glasto because they wanted a year off then fine, makes perfect sense. But turning down Glasto to headline a small festival a couple of weeks later? Not for me Jeff...

Personally I think we have our Friday night headliner.

No one said they turned it down to do that festival instead? Word was they've taken most of the year off, presumably until they have new material out. Loads of bands do this and still do a few smaller festivals or whatever for the odd payday, whilst holding off on the bigger fests until they've released new material.

I agree. As we've mentioned before, they might rather wait and play Glastonbury when they have a new album out, while doing a few festivals like Standon Calling act as a few paydays between albums.

Yep, makes more sense to do Glasto and the exposure you get with it when they've got a new album, whereas with stuff like Standon Calling it makes no difference.

I think them turning Glasto down was just implied by them having been offered but also there being no shows.

    Hmm.

"Turned it down from what i've been told, taking most of the year off now, first break they've had as a band really in 7 odd years."

Them doing one or two gigs (Standon Calling obvs being one) and not Glasto would still fit in imo. Sounds to me like he's specifically heard they turned down Glasto.

No I think he said they weren’t doing shows at all.

Aye I know that, but he also specifically said the last he'd heard was that they'd turned down Glasto, didn't he? Which would mean he'd have to be wrong on two counts for them to end up playing.

  5. Pretty sure the Wolf Alice itk specifically said he'd heard they'd turned down Glasto, as well as the fact they're wanting time off, so even if they are doing some shows it still sounds like Glasto won't be one of them?

Yeah but George is far bigger over here.

Who knows how they'll work it though.

Would be one of them Ellie Goulding into Beck scenarios I guess. Then again apparently Janet Jackson is shit too.

Well, hold on, I didn't accuse the original poster of being sexist but I do think it's fair to debate why she was singled out for this.

It is disappointing that the question has attracted more downvotes than someone saying "get them nips out love" in the other thread though.

She was singled out because no one knows her songs.

There are more things to note about female performers than their gender, you big sexist.

  8. So an artist who, clearly, lots of people haven't heard many songs by, despite her being a big name, is claimed to be playing Glasto where she'd presumably get a big slot, and a poll is made on how many songs we all know, and someone instantly jumps to calling the poll starter sexist? Lol shut up.

Was it sexist when we had a discussion last week on whether we knew any Sheryl Crow songs?

Was it sexist in 2017 when some of us were surprised Kris Kristofferson was playing 4th down because a lot of us know none of his songs?

Was it sexist when people were discussing how many Strokes songs the Pyramid crowd will know?

Was it sexist when people were asking their mums if they'd heard of Stormzy?

Or are they all just normal discussions for a Glastonbury forum to play host to?

For what it's worth, though, I think @The Placid Casual is probably a sexist.

Genuinely only trolled once previously which was the 2015 line up. Even the 2 main stage thing (to my knowledge) actually supposed to happen.

Defo a couple of times in 2016, unless that's what you meant and just mixed the years up.

  10. 2 minutes ago, thewayiam said:

Is Frank really big enough to play 3rd down main?, I know Dan has just hinted it's basically happening but still.

To be honest @Dan Wilcox does have a history of being correct over the years, he doesn't just post shit for fun.

He literally has done this several times and admitted it.

Maybe 4 sets across the two sites, opening with acoustic on the main stage, then the light show late on NME?

Loads of acts have done 4 sets across the 2 sites in the past, though, and that was never advertised as such. Used to always get an act playing mid-main then headline Lock Up.

    49 minutes ago, justanothername said:

Nah it wasn't. It was amped up. He even said "If I was a professional, I would have a pedal for this." Every other band I saw on the acoustic stage managed to get this bit right but this incompetent fool didn't so we had to listen to him retune his guitar through the PA system several times for him to only go and butcher Heroes by Bowie.

Why did you go to see Enter Shikari acoustic ffs?

Are The Brave Little Abacus playing @Dan Wilcox?

    Shut up.

I'm guessing The Subways low main or mid NME Foo's day.

I'm guessing no, heading, co-heading 3 years later and subbing 3 years later again, nah. They are also a sub act now.

Christ if you really think Foals and Biffy Clyro are too small to be a "sub who could headline" you're more bafflingly dumb than I thought.

Anyway, I think this is him trolling again.

    Edit: Yep.

I think there are a few little things that in isolation mean little but when added together - Cooper, the gap in her Vegas residency, her strange "am I allow to talk about that?" last festival, the cancelled tour from last year...

Mate that was in October 2016. I highly doubt she was referring to Glastonbury 2019.

But that same person also said The 1975 were 100% subbing on the Sunday, which is bollocks.

    Different person.

This was someone in a band who plays festivals.

The 1975 thing was someone who runs a restaurant in Devon or something.

To be fair to Gaga she could just sit at a piano and still captivate the audience more so than The Strokes could.

    I think she's a perfectly realistic alternative.

Sure, she probably could, but is that a thing she's ever done, or something that seems likely from her previous performances at big events (genuine question, I have no idea if she's done things like that before)?

  15. Just now, eFestivals said:

there's plenty of realistic alternatives that have been offered, at least as realistic as the strokes.

Just because you're rejecting them doesn't mean they're not there.

A bunch of acts who aren't active, have no European shows, or have already been ruled out? You're acting like I'm rejecting them for no reason.

The only remotely realistic one I can think of that's been floated is Neil Young, and I'm not even sure they'd book a repeat of Neil Young over The Strokes playing for the first time.

  16. Just now, eFestivals said:

    that's possible.

But as i said, normally when someone gossips about a band that's headlining, the fact of them headlining is a major part of that gossip.

Depends where the info has come from, surely? Think I remember someone on here in 2017 saying they or someone they know have something to do with Biffy Clyro's finances and knows they've received a fee to play Glastonbury. With something like that you'd have no idea if they're headlining or not.
