Of course, best reason to post here is to laugh at how different your own list is after pre-festi listening. Easy ones:

    Ezra

    Aldous Harding

    Vampire Weekend

    Shame

    Idles

    Big Thief

    Japanese Breakfast

    Oh Sees

Then a large number to choose from for the last two slots, so 8 it is, rather than making an arbitrary choice.

Great line-up for my personal tastes, including a couple I already have tickets for.

Wish I'd done 8. How do i now work Warhaus into my list?

Mac Demarco, Ty Segall, Pond, Parquet Courts (altho i love em..), Car Seat Headrest, RBCF, Slowdive, J&MC, Ultimate Painting

Perhaps it just felt like a rise in A Certain Demographic. Then again - I look like that demographic (I am that demographic) and perhaps I'm being snobbish. Just personal gripes init.

It clearly is personal taste WM, we were on the rail for Pond, and had Mac Demarco carried over our heads, at the end of his crowd surf from the Woods stage, but I get what you mean. It's a great line-up, and plenty there for everyone

I think vampire weekend fans are similar to Mac De Marco fans im afraid.

Really? it is one of those things one has to get over, I'm afraid...or get down the front and join in! I'd suggest that Shame my have this type of following by September. I'll let you know after I've seen them in April

AND YOU KNOW WHAT THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS LINE UP IS?

THE RELEGATION OF GREASY TEENAGE BOY GUITAR BANDS TO MERE ALSO-RANS. Yea, there's Fat White Family (shudder) and Oh Sees, but generally speaking Simon seems to have noted the infestation of dreadful greasy specimens last year and gone "fuck em"

So many interesting bands instead. So much more international - African, Middle-Eastern - music, so much more electronic music, so much more 'out-there' alternative music.

Not too sure that Oh Sees would be classed as a GTBGB, and also not too sure how many GTBGB's there were last year. it is, of course, horses for courses and what you like.

2016 the Saturday was a wash-out, 2017 the Sunday was as relentlessly grim as you could ever expect. But the rest of those weekends have been fine to glorious.

i don't remember 2016 being a "wash-out". rained for about 5 hours on Saturday afternoon/evening. Through Goat amd Local natives I recall. 2017 Sunday was raining at 07:30 when I went for a leak, still raining at 02:00 when leaving the tipi.

Nice gap in their schedule for EOTR, really enjoyed their last album and the new one's pretty cool too. Would be very surprised if they're not included in the next announcement.

Got to be nailed on for Friday, or surprise for Thursday

    "Realistic answers" ... "Feist"

I don't think we'll get any more big acts let alone someone who could headline. Think it'll a few More tiny bands at the bottom of the lineup, possible replacement for pwr bttm in shape of frankie cosmos or girlpool

I'm sort of expecting a bigger name to headline up against Bill Callahan with him playing the Garden Stage. I don't think BC is quite as big, and will ram the arena, as much as some think. I may be one of two dissenters on here, but this forum is not the representative view of the festival goers. Let's call them the youngsters, shall we? Probably not aware of Callahan's pedigree and style...may be seeking alternative entertainment.

  10. I do love the 'horses for courses' nature of this list and the whole EOTR vibe.

As talented and entertaining as these people are, there was a little noise in my head that went 'meh' when I read Lucinda Williams, Abidou & Miriam, Marika Hackman and possibly a smaller 'meh' for FJM. Also a little 'they were great a couple of years ago, but now?' for Parquet Courts, and J&MC (many years ago).

Then there was a 'oh good, missed them last time and heard they were great' for Mac Demarco, Perfumed Genius & Julia Jacklin.

But finally there's the sense of anticipation for those 'Marc Riley' bands; Omni, Ty Segal, Duds, Brix Smith, Car Seat HR.

...and I cannot wait to see Lemon Twigs on a festival stage

(also can't wait for some more headline names)

  11. Just need to sort my Goat Girl from my Girl Band and Girl Ray!

Saw Goat Girl recently supporting Lemon Twigs. Would be better suited with J&MC, nearly on point of collapse, and will need a bit more stage presence for a festival stage. But EOTR will be 9 months down the line for them; and look at The Big Moon rising up the festival running orders this year.

"Big Moon rising"...i quite like that!

  12. Hmmm, so where are we with this?

Looking at recent US festival announcements

Future Islands, Glass Animals, Alt-J, Jagwar Ma, Angel Olsen

re-emerging with new album; Spoon, Grandaddy

Boosting their profile; Lemon Twigs, Carseat Headrest, Haley Bonar

Saturday Big Top only has 7 acts, whereas every other day has 8. And the Sunday tipi only has 7 acts vs 9 on fri/sat.

That'll be the Newsome effect, on the Tipi. Expect the cider bus will be asked to turn it down as well

  14. Thursday night....interesting. Okay for me as we arrive Thursday lunchtime, but that is not going to go down well. Am I right in thinking this year clashes with the first week back at school which will affect those conscientious parents that bring their kids and would reduce Thursday attendance anyway? Just put them [Shins] on in the Tipi!
