I know there's no point living in the past and bands probably get sick of playing their hits but it's a damn shame how little Big Thief play from their first two albums. Looking at their setlists from last year and they play almost entirely new material, which is good but no masterpiece (badum tshh!)

Big thief are an interesting live band for me - personally don't think there's a band who's matched them for output or quality in the past 10 years but have never really done it for me live even back around masterpiece

  2. I think Sampha/Big thief/Jon Hopkins are about the same size as Devo/First Aid Kit/Self esteem.

Very happy with the lineup overall - undercard is  Sleaford Mods don't do it for me but  I won't go and see them!

If Jon Hopkins brings king creosote out I definitely will cry

Did they get the same criticism at Green Man? I'd agree with the fix above anyway but never experienced anything quite as dramatic as some of the above!

There's a lot of urinals - both male and female - at Green Man, but definitely no complaining anywhere near on this scale

What wally thought installing these disasters was a good idea???

It takes me back to the worse days of Glasto toilets.

I get the environmental credentials, but I've yet to see anyone use a sawdust scoop. And, when in daylight, you can see into them they're actually full of toilet paper - no sawdust - and drink cans, which aren't going to turn into fertiliser.

As to "when you can see". In the dark they're an accident waiting to happen.

    They smell something rotten.

I've yet to find a clean one, or a dry one. I'm certainly not intending sitting down in one. If I need a 💩 I'll either walk to the portaloos back in the car park, or I'll 💩 onto some newspaper in my tent and dispose of the outcome.

The steps up are steep and slippery. Just because most of us are not "disabled" doesn't mean we relish the thought of manoeuvring up, or down those stairs. And in the ones on the roadway down to the Boat I practically had to jump out of it because of its height above the ground and to avoid the worse of the wet mud at the entrance.

And they're also tight to use. Barely space to turn around especially if you don't want to fall down those ruddy stairs.

And nowhere to put anything. No hooks, nor dfy or clean space in a corner for a bag and/or a collapsed chair.

    Such a retrograde step.

I know you sold out again this year, but you'll also be aware there were 3-500 tickets on Twickets right up to opening.

Line ups like this year's and toilets like these are not going to encourage returners.

I mean I've been to some bad toilets in my time but doing a dump onto a newspaper in my own tent would definitely be the worst

  5. Haim were 10/10 for me. Not my usual gig but cheap tickets and them being my wife's favourite band it was all in all a great evening. Never been to ape so couldn't judge how busy it was in comparison to other days but it was very easy to get around.

Very happy crowd, good sound and the band put on a great show.

The undercard was pretty shite which I think accounted for a lot of the poor ticket sales

    Excitement is kicking in now!!

Could anyone clarify the booze situation?

We've been to GM a couple of times, but not for a few years. I'm sure previously we've been able to take our own booze into the arena as well as sampling the beer festival drinks, but the terms seem to suggest no drink can be brought in.

Is that just a precaution or have the changed the rules since we were last there?

The enforcement was exactly the same last year as previous (i.e. none)

  7. Not the best not the worst - they're really vibing the dance pioneers which I find a little dull to be honest but personal preference.

It's my first year for a while not going and this lineup doesn't make me devastated to be missing out but there's definitely enough good stuff for a very enjoyable weekend

  8. Find it quite funny people are debating whether boygenius would headline or not. Fontaines dc and yo la tengo have headlined recently ffs.

If three men formed a supergroup and one of them had sold out Brixton for four nights I don’t think we’d be having this conversation

They have no tickets to sell so they can take their time fixing up the undercard I guess.

The possibility that realistically they could make this probably the first ever UK festival to have all-female leads on the headline slots given who's around touring and the right size (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fever Ray, First Aid Kit, Amyl & The Sniffers, Arlo Parks, Grace Jones, Boygenius) is quite something.

Now you've said that you just know it's going to be Mac Demarco and Jamie xx

  10. My engagement with chai whallahs has decreased steadily as I've got older, haven't been back since I stumbled across the Beatles dub cover band which is the worst thing I've ever seen. I think there would be uproar if they got rid of it though.

My preference would be a stage like the tipi at eotr with late night bands.

  11. I'm hoping no legacy acts to headline next year like Kraftwerk.

Ignoring the fact they were incredibly dull I think a festival like Green Man which is now a guaranteed sell out has a responsibility to promote up and coming acts like Little Simz over bands who haven't released any music in the last 10 years.

    Little Simz/Jamie xx/Angel Olsen

There were thefts from two tents by me on the Thursday night (same night) of a phone and bag. Security seemed to think it was ‘organised’ gangs who target festivals but seems a bit over the top.

I worked it a couple of years on the bounce and there was always reports of thefts on Thursday and a couple of people got caught. General consensus from police/security is a couple of people come down on Thursday, hit as many tents they can then leave.

It's definitely semi organised/planned as it only every happens on Thursday night

  13. The toilets were definitely a bit shit last year but there was a problem with the supplier, almost certainly due to covid. hopefully it's been fixed this year.

is there crew camping/parking for this?

Applied on Friday, they responded today saying they are still looking for volunteers

There is, crew camping is small but decent with loads of showers etc. Crew parking is in the main car parking field but you're right by the front entrance so you don't have to navigate some of the horrific queues that can build up on Monday

The line up is terrible I feel ripped off tbh, especially with the booze cap. What exactly are we paying for? No wonder they kept it secret

They spend a significant amount of money on the art installations/fire works etc. It's a really cool festival but agree that the booze cap is pretty stingy
