  1. Welcome to the jungle, live and let die? I can’t stand GnR but know pretty much every word to at least 4 of their songs. Was every song by Geoff Lynne and ELO completely unavoidable? Mr blue sky maybe (some would say not even that qualifies). The rest of their music, nah, GnR are much more recognisable
  2. We’re not bickering but discussing the rumoured artists for headliners in 2023, which is the purpose of this thread
  3. In genre yes. In terms of number of singalong anthems (the criteria I’ve been using for the legends slot), then they’re far closer to dolly kylie etc
  4. Agreed. To reiterate again, I’m not trying to be difficult here, more trying to say that actually if you think about it they are a possibility for the slot and would go down a storm may I add. as I said before, I agree it’s not likely, more I am arguing we shouldn’t immediately discount them being the legends as a possibility given the evidence I’ve given and given that there a few solid rumours for headliners this year. By having GnR as legends allows a greater accommodation of artists rumoured to be on the lineup. Have really enjoyed the to and fro though. Enjoy rest of your Saturday x
  5. They’re hardly Metallica are they? They are cheesy rock. If any rock or metal head said my fave band is GnR they would be laughed at by people from that scene
  6. And it will evolve again! The fact it’s evolved already gives greater weight to my argument it will evolve now!
  7. Answer the question rather than deflecting
  8. I would argue the legends slot is about singalong rather than camp. I wouldn’t say Ray Davies is camp. GnR have loads of singalong hits and as I said are cheesy rock, so would therefore fit the bill given the cheese element of their music
  9. Are kylie and Diana Ross not big acts? Seem to remember kylie was booked to headline in the 00s
  10. Don’t take the piss without coming up with a solid argument to disprove my argument
  11. Of course I’ve been paying attention but if you’d been paying attention to what I’ve previously said in this thread, in the legends slot thread, everyone was saying that the pool of legends is drying up. Therefore there is a need to refresh said pool. Getting GnR to do it is refreshing said pool by allowing it to go in the rock direction. Also to say sweet child of mine isn’t cheese is frankly laughable, maybe not cheesy pop but certainly cheesy rock, hence it’s inclusion on every wedding playlist since 1995
  12. Do the Spice Girls sell out stadia? Yes. So why do many tout them for the legends slot?
  13. Kate Bush isn’t rumoured to be performing at the festival, so not the same thing at all. Is Kate Bush playing at other festivals in June? No. I am not doubting the rumours, more the immediate assumption that GnR are headlining rather than playing legends slot and no one has so far come up with a solid argument other than their own opinion to prove otherwise
  14. The only reason I say that is because Robbie is touring this year and around at exactly the time of Glasto, yet has ruled himself out via exclusivity at IoW. We don't know what GnR's plans are currently, so yes what I have said, today, is currently accurate. So on current weight of evidence, it is more likely GnR do it than Robbie
  15. Cher would be an incredible booking. Shame it’s not looking likely. Just to be clear I’m not trying to come across as difficult (as I said I think it’s unlikely GnR will do legends slot- more trying to play devils advocate) but as I said I don’t think there’s a reason for us to be so dismissive of them as a legends slot possibility rather than headliner or nothing
  16. If Neil hadn’t said Roxy Music were the legends slot and had merely said they were playing, would you have thought they were filling the legends slot or something like mid afternoon pyramid? I have no doubt they’re playing but am not sold they are big enough for the legends slot, a view shared by many others on here
  17. Is he doing the legend slot next year then? He’s touring so why wouldn’t he do it? Because he wouldn’t take it, hence why he’s an exclusive (headliner may I add) at Isle of Wight. Not convinced Robbie will ever do it if he won’t do it this year (at least not for the next few years) which to me means they still need to refresh. You can refresh with both GnR and kylie, they’re not mutually exclusive. Robbie has also released music far more recently than GnR so again it could be argued he is more of a headliner than GnR who haven’t released anything since the 90s
  18. But we keep saying that the pool of legends is severely drying up. The slot needs freshening up at some point, much like when Jay Z was booked has revolutionised the potential glasto headliner pool. I remember seeing a list on here the other day, there were 2 names I can’t remember who remained as those who hadn’t done it. That doesn’t even take us up to the next fallow year. To me it would seem the perfect year to freshen it up, as if Elton is playing he can satisfy the radio 2 type listeners
  19. But again why? I’ve just said about the exposure piece being bigger for the legends slot and this is often touted on here as the reason for why acts accept a lower fee. Add into that Slash has done Glastonbury before (in the afternoon may I add) and seemed to enjoy it, I’m not so convinced they would turn the legends slot down. It’s not as if they’re bursting with new material is it, a clear reason why they should be viewed as legends rather than headliners
  20. There are few more nostalgic songs than sweet child of mine. Played at basically every wedding, everyone gets their air guitar out etc, I think they fill the legend slot brief pretty perfectly. I’m not convinced they will do the legend slot to be clear but having initially dismissed it as a possibility, the more I think about it, the more I think they would be a good fit for it, especially as them being a headliner just doesn’t feel quite right to me (and others based on some of the comments on this thread)
  21. Why not? The legend slot is pretty much a fourth headliner these days, some might argue it actually gets more coverage than some of the headliners. Legend slot usually broadcast on bbc one, the headliners often on bbc2
  22. Could it be that GnR are the legend slot? I know Neil thinks it’s Roxy Music but they just seem too small/lacking in singalong hits to be right for that slot to me. GnR feel a much better fit for that slot to me given the singalong anthems they have That way Elton, Dua and GnR could all be on the lineup (assuming AM already locked in).
  23. This seems to have been glossed over/ missed by Ozanne, funny that. Care to comment on this please given your ranting all day? If Labour and Saint Keir are planning on keeping these policies in place, why are you slagging the policies off?
  24. Stevie Nicks solo? She’s playing a few dates next year
  25. Spice up your life when blossoms and Mel c did it this year went off in the crowd, anyone who says that spice girls wouldn’t draw a massive crowd needs to give their head a wobble
