Haven't found out anything specific to Glasto yet but my son is part of a Despacio group on Discord and apparently the sound system has a permit/licence (something along those lines) to be in Europe for the next 12 months. If that is the case then it makes the possibility of future dates much more likely. It's been in the States for quite a few years so the fact it's now over here can only be a good thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a run of Autumn dates in the Roundhouse as they were due to play there during Covid but it got cancelled.

Amazing thanks a lot for the intel, fingers crossed for Glastonbury then, if not I’ll be at the London date they hopefully do!

Does Glastonbury feel a need to make one of the headliners American? I don’t want to go all ‘British first’, but I do think they should have had the balls to put home grown Little Simz on instead of SZA.  She’s six albums in, a Mercury and Brit winner, got five star reviews for her Ally Pally shows literally everywhere (from the NME to the FT). She has already proved herself headlining West Holts. And she’s already booked for the Pyramid.  Emily Eavis was even at the Ally Pally show - how can she have walked away from that show and not thought “wow - that is a Pyramid headliner” (or maybe that was her thought followed by “if only she was American”).
It was the second best concert  I went to last year. The best was Sault - and she stole the show in that!

No, see 2016, where Muse, Adele and Coldplay headlined

By 'everything else' I was referring to their respective tour schedules, rather than what goes on at Glastonbury. Totally agree there's no reason why they can't host Despacio again but I'm pretty sure in 2014 they weren't all touring like they are this summer (LCD definitely weren't as it was 2016 when they started again).

It's also one thing getting the two brothers and James free on the same weekend but there's the crew that's needed to make it all work to take into consideration as well. I know a few of them and they told me they were on site in Gent for the whole week leading up to the shows. I hope I'm wrong but I just think they've got too much going on this summer to do Despacio alongside their LCD, Soulwax and 2manydjs commitments.

Totally fair, fingers crossed they are there. Any chance you could ask the people you know who work on it if they’re gonna be at Glastonbury?!

I went to Despacio in Gent on Saturday and it was an amazing evening. Most of the previous ones they've done have been at festivals in tents but this was in a really interesting building in the centre of the city called the Wintercircus. They hadn't used it for about 30 years but it's been redeveloped and Despacio was part of a bigger event over the weekend that included conferences, tours and workshops.

For anyone who's been before, you'll know the soundtrack is a real slow burner over the time (6 hours) but it was a lot more eclectic than I was expecting. The lights were superb and centred as always around the huge disco ball that was suspended from the ceiling. Crowd was mostly in the 30/40yo age bracket but I was there with my lad who is 17 and there were plenty of people in their 50/60's present. The atmosphere was excellent throughout, which is what you would expect with it being the first one in Belgium and in the home city of the two brothers.

I'm not sure how many (if any?) Despacio's there will be over the summer as LCD and Soulwax are obviously both touring, plus 2manydjs have quite a few dates announced already? There's a massive amount of planning and a whole lot of logistics that need to be put in place to make each Despacio happen so I think it's doubtful they'll be able to organise that around everything else.

Despacio was at Glastonbury in 2014 so if they could organise it then, no reason why they can’t now.

What would stop them doing it however is if either James Murphy or 2manydjs had other tour dates over Glastonbury weekend, as no way Despacio would happen for just one day given it requires setup, its own tent etc.

Just had a look at both of their tour dates and they are both free the whole Glasto weekend currently and as another poster has said 2manydjs are local around the time of Glastonbury, so could be a chance they do it. Whether or not it materialises is another matter

Why wouldn’t they be on the first poster?

For the same reason that 99% of the DJs who will be playing aren’t yet on the poster. For example Bicep who apparently self confirmed for Iicon aren’t on the poster, yet are a far bigger act than 2manydjs so it follows that an act the size of 2manydjs could be playing but aren’t on the poster.

To be clear I have no info that they are/aren’t playing, more am saying that just cos they’re not on the poster doesn’t mean they’re definitely not playing

Faithless, The Breeders, This is the Kit, London Grammar, Fontaines, half of Woodsies - especially ALVVAYS, Squid, Jordan Rakei, Black Pumas, Jungle, Justice, Last Dinner Party, Bloc Party, Confidence Man, IDLES, the National, Michael Kiwanuka, PJ Harvey, Little Simz, LCD Soundsystem, Coldplay.

That's pretty bloody awesome and I have been selective here.

If anyone hands their ticket back, on the basis of the lineup alone - amazing. I will drink your salty tears instead of a Berocca and pray that the likes of @nikkic get your ticket.

    Maybe Glastonbury isn't for you?

Just because the lineup this year isn’t to certain people’s tastes doesn’t mean Glastonbury ‘isn’t for them’.

£350 is a lot of money and people are within their rights to criticise what they perceive to be a weak lineup, much like you are within your rights to praise it

This probably means nothing: Soon can just mean this week after what Emily said rather than soon meaning today.

Potentially but it’s Gaby Roslin not Zoe Ball this week and she said she had never been to Glastonbury so it wouldn’t be on her radar as a discussion point unless her producer told her I wouldn’t have thought

I would imagine a lot. But i think the Saturday with them is the only day to have sold out, which is no mean feat considering Blink/Prodigy and Liam G/Catfish are on the other days. Raye is probably a lot more expensive now than she probably was when booked though.

Won’t really be to do with Raye, Lana and Fred again will have been the contributing factors to the Saturday selling out (unsurprising given they are both the headliners), given they both have very big and loyal fan bases

Totally agree. I’m still convinced they’ve got her, just because, in my opinion, it’s the perfect career topper for a mega star before they head off into retirement. She really doesn’t need the dollar but it’s got to work out and be viable. If she does it and nails it like Elton did, it’s the perfect ending that gains worldwide attention and would be watched by anyone in the UK with even a passing interest in her. While there’s still space on the BST lineup for her, I think there’s a strong chance she’s signed up for the G. If it gets to the point where there’s no BST space left then it’s potentially game over.

Yeah this is my thinking too, if your Madonna and her team, seeing Elton nail it in 2023 and get such a good reception, it must be tempting to think lets have some of that even if the pay is not up to usual levels. Get the BST gig for the pay day and do Glastonbury for the PR, you don't get to be her status in the music world without having some of that savviness and given she's on her greatest hit tour, she will know there's probably never going to be a better time for her to do it

  10. I disagree with the honours system in general, especially given how abused it has become under the current government, but if anyone deserves one for their service to the culture of this country, it is our favourite shorts wearing leader.

    Arise Sir Michael!

    would love this

  12. As many have said, carefully worded by Emily. The 'untrue' bit could also point to the days the headliners are performing on being wrong too, doesn't necessarily mean the headliners themselves are wrong

Really messes them up with headliner announcements having sale delayed … if the headliner talk becomes mainstream what do they do ? Stated on headliner thread Emily has said they won’t announce these before ticket sale but they might well have too

It’s definitely going to mean there will be more people trying as a result of the supposed headliners being rumoured in the mainstream press. If you think about it, imagine there would have been a lot of people who wanted to see Madonna on her current tour, but couldn’t afford the extortionate ticket prices. Now people can get a whole Glastonbury ticket for less than the price of a lot of the seats for her current tour

Did anyone here go to Drumsheds this weekend? Any first impressions? Looked like nightmare to get in and apparently absolutely roasting inside. Going to the Bugged Out night in a couple of weeks so hoping the teething issues are sorted before then.

Yes I went, queue to get in was fine for us (went in about 4pm). Sound was quiet in main room at the start but improved for Evelyn king and then onwards. Sound in the smaller rooms was good throughout. It was hot inside as you say but kinda feels par for the course in most clubs. Venue was good, nothing on Printworks in my opinion but serves a purpose. Main room is so big that even at peak time it felt kind empty if you weren’t in the middle/near the front
