I've never been to Glastonbury before so pretty clueless about all the different bars and locations! Does anyone have any advice on which Avalon bar would be best to work? Preferably one that's reasonably busy so the shift goes by quick enough.

Well I’m working the Glade Brew Bar, the line-up for that is out so you’ll know what the music is like. It is  pretty central so in break before or after you can get around quickly.

Similarly the acoustic line-up is out too so you’ll know what the music on cockmill is like, that is at one end of the site, close to the Pyramid and pretty close to the Avalon camp. The line-up of each is a pretty good indication of the drinks and vibe.

Those will both be pretty busy, as will Stonebridge bar, which is open later but the very far end of the site at the Park, you can look up the line-up for the Park and last year for  Stonebridge,  Arcadia, Rabbit Hole in that area.  Also you can look at the line-up for West Holts bar which, again is more central.

Then there are other bars less directly linked to stages. I guess it depends what you are interested in?

  2. Very happy with my decision to request shifts working the Glade Brew Bar. There’s very little on there I wouldn’t enjoy working to and, with a metric tonne of caffeine, I think I can power through any inevitable hangover.

Nope. Gok Wan is a 'fashion guru'. Him getting behind decks sounds as much fun as all the kpop women that are suddenly djs believing they are interesting see behind their length and tightness of their skirts.

I’ve never seen a TV show of Gok Wan’s and have no interest in anything else he has ever done. I  am not saying that his mixing is special or that many other acts on the line-up could not do what he does… I just have quite similar taste in certain types of music to him and there’s not that much of it played at Glastonbury. I feel exactly the same about Craig Charles. The personality or outside interests (unless particularly unethical) of DJs doesn’t really interest me to be honest.

I think the point about Fat Boy Slim here is that his self-confirm is not interesting because he will always play Glastonbury as long as fit to do so.

Silver Hayes - mostly tech house

    Block9 - almost entirely techno

    Shangri-la - bit of a mix

The Common - more dnb based

Arcadia is a mix, friday/sat usually very random then sunday has been dnb recent years

What are you looking for? theres a few other bits like beat hotel too

This is very useful. I’m generally more into Vocal or Disco House and Trance so Downlow, the Glade, Arcadia and Green Peace tend to be my go to places.

I’m happy about this, hoping to be working behind the bar at the Glade and his sets would be great to keep you going to whilst working without having to really pay attention.

  6. It’s an excellent line-up. Acoustic is good too, between those and West Holts I’ve got more than enough without caring for much on the Pyramid, Other, Woodside or even the Park.

OCS is an acoustic set. Always good, but not as good as the main set

Not sure why that's not doing the Tweet preview but it says "As if the summer wasn't exciting enough, we are beyond delighted to say we will be bringing our acoustic set to Glastonbury this year! See us headline The Acoustic Stage on Saturday 29th June "

This puts me off a bit to be honest. I don’t mind a bit of acoustic during the day and I like OCS but I can’t picture watching an acoustic act as my Saturday night headliner

I’m looking forward to watching it on TV having handed the baton over to someone new.  It will always remain a very, very special place.

Great post, this bit made me think of the Yard Act lyric

‘It brings me peace of mind to know that this will all just carry on
    With someone else
    With something new
    No need to be blue’

Sister Bliss headlined at my local festival - was a Dj set making good use of Faithless tracks. F*cking brilliant. Can’t wait to see her again (bar shifts allowing)

I’m with you on the bar shifts. Trying not to get my hopes up for anyone in particular for this reason - if I get to see 2 out of Faithless, LCD or Justice I’ll be pretty stoked.

  10. Like many others have said Black Pumas and Kenya Grace.

Barry can’t swim wasn’t an act I discovered, as I had listened to him when he was last year’s line-up, but I had completely missed the fact he had a very good/well received album out which I’ve been loving too.

For all the criticism of the line-up I am yet to have a year where I don’t love the playlist I make out of it to fit my taste.

I've done it before, and I think you'll be fine. Where are you volunteering?

Thanks, I’m sure I will - keen to be a bit more proactive beforehand and at the festival 😊.

I’ll be volunteering behind the bar with Avalon, should be fun.

There’s a couple of meet-ups … a volunteer one organised by @dondo on the Monday and an Efests meet at the ridge and furrow bar on the wed eve everyone welcome . Thread to be started in due course . Come along . All welcome and different states of inebriation par for the course

I definitely plan on being at the Efests meet (shifts permitting). Would have loved to have gone to the Monday one but don’t think I’ll be on site till Tuesday.

  13. Couldn’t see a thread for this year… anyone else going solo?

Will be my first doing so (volunteering) and very excited to be doing so, with complete freedom to wander.

My only concern is the fact that a significant proportion of my time at Glastonbury my communication skills are generally somewhat… impaired 😂

  14. If there are a fair few people not interested because of the lack of Maxi that’s absolutely fine by me, I personally disagree and it could make it very slightly less rammed.

He was fantastic but I like the stuff they have brought out without Maxi. If they use another vocalist I’m not above seeing a tribute act and if they use samples, well the Chems are probably my favourite live* act so I’d enjoy that too.

    Car Sharing

I'm volunteering for Avalon this year.

If parking spot become available it would be great to drive.

Anyone want to set up a car share

M4 corridor in South Wales and points along the M5

    Get in touch !

Likewise volunteering for Avalon and looking to car share… but I’m coming from Derbyshire so not ideal for either of us!

With regards to Prydz, he's seems to play pretty much the same festivals each year - Tomorrowland, Creamfields - but agree that his production doesn't lend itself well to any of the stages at Glasto.

I couldn’t find any recent mentions of Prydz (apologies if I have missed it). Does the fact he is in Cardiff around the time make any sort of appearance remotely likely?

  17. I’d love Despacio to be there but the one year they did neither act played elsewhere on site and it was all weekend I believe, which was probably pretty intense?

I’m not sure if James Murphy playing a huge gig on the Pyramid Stage on the Friday makes it more or less likely? I guess at least the gig is first. do Despacio have an entirely different crew?

    Hi All.

Does anyone know which bars are run by Avalon?

See map above, not sure if it is accurate/up to date. Do you live in Derby, Phil? (I ask as I do and am volunteering for Avalon).

A previous Avalon/shelter volunteer posted a little map on this forum at some point with all the Avalon bars on & their names.... Since I've been given a volunteering place this year I've been searching and searching for it. I'm sure I wasn't hallucinating

    This one?

    Which year was that? 2019?

I saw her in 2018 at Lost Village and it was great, but from what I've heard her sets are all samey samey these days.

Her own tunes and same bog standard re-edits.

2022... to be fair I didn't know enough about her to know if it was samey samey.

  21. She was decent at All Points East before the Chems. After Fat Boy Slim last year (which many thought was weird) it doesn't seem that weird. I quite like it when they mix it up on the stages a bit.
