Can anyone educate on who would be good to see from this or is it more of a discover for yourself when you've got a spare moment and something decent might be on?

K.O.G. were one of my favourite acts at EOTR a couple of years ago. Just a joyful afrobeat danceathon

  2. I think a lot of fun was had with the guessing as to who it would be but in the end it wasn't great due to how poorly attended other sets being played at the same time were. I felt so sorry Samia, who played a brilliant set to very few people.

So yeah, I'm not keen on it. I'd probably change my tune were it to happen again and it was someone I actually wanted to see though

  3. Never been but that is about as good a line-up (for my tastes) that I've ever seen for Bearded. So much that is right in my wheelhouse.

I can't justify the cost of doing two festivals in a year (I am an End of the Road regular), but would be all over that if money was no object.

Note to anyone on here. Punkisnotdead has made it clear that any debate will not be tolerated, we should be grateful for whatever bands we are given including the headliners and we must all fall in line with his views.

Mate, don't make it personal. They are well within their rights to express frustration that a band that, I assume, is one of their faves is getting a bit of a pile-on.

  5. Yep, I am not fan of Idles, they do nothing for me. But I can guarantee that they will pull a massive crowd, and fair play to all those who do go and see them and have a great time.

I'm not sure I agree with the "£240 for a good lineup" statement. A "good lineup" is subjective. For many people, Idles being on the bill does constitute a "good lineup". Who are we to say that their inclusion makes it bad?

Some of his stuff is on Spotify. His latest solo shows have been really intimate so not sure how that will work on a big stage.

Yeah, the last time I saw him was solo at the Union Chapel (Simon was there, unsurprisingly). It looks like recent setlists have been heavily drawing from the latest album, but who knows what sort of set we'll get in the autumn!

Never listened to Bonny Prince Billy (other than that one song about the seeing darkness). Any pointers?

Well, he's not on Spotify, so you'll have to dig. His "magnum opus" is "I See A Darkness" (the album), but he's prolific. I would also check out The Letting Go, Wolfroy Goes To Town and Ease Down The Road. Also check out his earlier stuff as "Palace Brothers/Music" as he'll probably play some of that too

Have The Decemberists ever played a U.K. or European festival?  If they have, I think it was ages ago.

Im surprised by their APE billing tbh.  I didn’t think they were that big at all outside of the US but maybe it’s the fact that they are quite a rare booking outside of the U.K. Past U.K. dates have been at Academy type venues for the most part.

They played ATP once because I saw them there

    Superchunk

I know for a fact that someone on the team (he has to listen to all the "apply to play" acts and decide on them) is a massive fan and has been hoping for them to play for years. I'm praying he's finally got his way!

  10. I'm pretty convinced that Big Thief will be one of them because of the cancelled 2020 headline slot. I still don't think PJ Harvey is impossible, but wouldn't bet my house on it.

Don't know though. One thing EOTR has been very good at in recent years is being pretty unpredictable.

This is the exactly the sort of speculation I need right now, even if it’s slightly over-optimistic.  Any news on Thursday headliners? I was thinking something like Lambchop or Yo La Tengo.  Or Sleater-Kinney 😊

I was going to say that YLT have done the Thursday headline slot in the past couple of years but it was actually 2018. Seems much more recent than that.

That said, I'd be surprised if they were back so soon. As headliners anyway

Sleater-Kinney have just been added to Paredes de Coura two weeks earlier, as has Cat Power. They were actually someone I thought of as a potential headliner but it depends how long they're around for, I don't believe they have any other European 2024 dates announced yet.

EDIT: they were also on Simon's original wishlist as linked on the first page.

Cat Power has played before (the Animal Collective year), so she won't be the one being ticked off the list this year.

Does the beer line up change each year? Will look forward to it even more if there are options other than the big international breweries

Can't find a list online of last years

There are two elements. There will be loads of real ales, all of which I think are localish (i.e. Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, etc.), and there will also be a brewery take-over that supplies the more "crafty" options. In the past we've had Beavertown (before the Heineken takeover), and Two Tribes. Last year it was Lost & Grounded, who also brought loads of guests with them.

Certainly no big international breweries. There are also cocktail bars and a G&T bar.

And, of course, you can take your own booze with you anywhere on site, so long as it's not in glass

  14. Normally get the first announcement around the end of January/beginning of February. It normally covers around 80% of the line-up, with drip feeds of additions/replacements every couple of months after that. This will include speakers for the literary stage, comedians and the cinema tent.

Around July you'll get the stage splits and then in August you get the all important message about the food and drink stalls.

I find myself listening to that Julie Byrne album a lot... wouldn't mind her coming back... although seem to remember she got terrible reviews last time

Any negative reviews would be unfair. She was plagued with technical difficulties and just gave up in the end after about 2/3 songs. Gutted because she was one of my "must sees" that weekend. Would love her to come back because that latest album is a beauty.

Did anybody get a video of Angel Olsen doing Without You? There are other versions on YouTube but I want this years EOTR to see if my singing added or subtracted from the magic 😂

I did but it's all over the place, literally one chorus and you can hear my own caterwauling. I shall not be posting it

I would go for the safe bet , Big Thief

I mean, they seem nailed on with their 2020 headline slot being cancelled. Another new album inbound. And an excellent response to the gender imbalance criticism.

    I'd certainly welcome them.
