    oh lord this is bad

This can’t be the final line up… can it?!  It looks unfinished & i remember these guys boasting an equally stacked poster as Primavera (size, not always quality).  Taking back all my initial underwhelming feelings towards the Primavera line up this year!

  2. Well I guess an underwhelming Primavera is still a good Primavera.  No Devo or surprises like Mr Bungle, Fiona Apple, Max Richter etc... but then again Lana, PJ Harvey, Pulp, Clipse, BADBADNOTGOOD, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib plus Jessica Pratt I'm more than happy with.

Olivia Rodrigo new album is being praised by the critics. Also her new punk rock indie direction seems to fit Primavera a bit more than her previous album, can easily see her or Billie Eilish as a big female headliner of Primavera.

I wouldn't say it's that much of a leap from the pop punk stuff on Sour, but I think she is very likely.

hmm wouldn't say that at all, they're a name near the festival but they could just take the day off, doesn't necessarily mean they're playing. Unless i've missed something

Ah ok, well they seem like a perfect fit for the festival & in other European countries they are doing 2 or 3 cities whereas Spain is Madrid only, so seems like a good bet I'd say

WIll Devo still be playing next year is the only question? If so surely they're nailed on

I really hope so, been on my wish list for a few years now & they've added more US dates for end of year, could easily go into next year I think

I want to believe it’s portishead + my bloody valentine year. However, a radically different edition would be welcome (weird, surprising headliners >> tame impala and the national for the 7th time).

Finally, I don’t want to be the one to say it loud…but is Frank Ocean really out, given the disaster he did with his live performer career? Would they be so crazy to book him (lower price now, maybe)? I mean, I would take the risk and immediately buy the tickets

They did a radically different edition (for Primavera) in 2019 & it was a little divisive - I thought it was a great move & would welcome it again.  2012 they booked a ton of metal acts, was a bit of a head scratcher that Primavera were booking them, but it introduced in a new crowd (like 2019), and created a fantastic atmosphere.

Let's hope 2024 looks a little different again (along with the big hitters we all want to see of course!).

  7. Lana Del Ray, PJ Harvey, Jenny Lewis, Janelle Monae, Bjork, Jessica Pratt, Bob Mould, Deerhoof, Flying Lotus, U.S. Girls, Party Dozen, Chat Pile, Madlib, Arthur Verocai(??) - all acts that have either played before or that I can see happening.

Outside bets / wish list - Ween, The Feelies, Jonathan Richman, Faith No More (or Mr Bungle?), Max Richter, Danny Elfman, D'Angelo, The Roots, Tindersticks

    No.

    1) It took me almost 3 hours from arriving at the Civitas (which itself is a pain to get to) to walking through the festival gates including collecting wristband. This is the route they recommend.

    2. Some people were also waiting well over an hour for a bus to get back into town. In fairness I didnt wait long but only as I left early. I dont want to be forced to leave early tonight which I now feel I am.

    3. The first day was cancelled (!)

    4. The auditori concerts start at 12am. Is that reasonable when even if you only saw the headliners last night and then left immediately you still got back to the centre after 3am? It’s meant to be fun, not an endurance test.

    5. The site lacks any character in my opinion. Not worth trekking to the middle of nowhere for.

    6. There was a lot of sound bleed at stages as they were pretty close. Watching Alvvays with a Four Tet background?

Of course there were some good points (mostly the amount of space) but they were by accident (terrible ticket sales), not by design.

They will never repeat this model.

I just know from the experience of last year & that what you read online vs actually being there (goes for everything obv) - is a very different thing.

But yeah, you've convinced me not to do Madrid.  I'll stick with the classic model.

    • Thanks 1
  9. I love Barcelona too much to trade it in for Madrid, but I've never been to Madrid so it's pure ignorance on my part, just don't want to take the gamble if I'm honest.

Will be interesting to see if they continue Madrid next year.  Sounds like people on the ground are having a blast & as usual it's the socials spreading the usual bullshit.  8000 ticket sales & OMG it's another Fyre Fest... whatever.

Question for you folks on a related topic......

I see some people mentioning bands they went to see who were on quite early in the evening (say 8pm) and im just wondering how you physically do/did it?

I could do it for the first day but then would stay out until at least 5am (drinking continuously).

Then It took ages to get to Passeig De Gracia where my hotel was.

I was getting into bed at 6/7 am.

By day 2 and day 3 I would be in pieces each day and barely able to stomach food until about 4pm.

I don't take any substances but would drink beer all night.

Do you guys just take it easy and focus on the music?, stay close to the venue? or am I just getting old?

We always stay in the Gothic Quarter, but what helped this year was actually staying until 5am each day & jumping on the metro, those shuttle buses last year were no fun, whereas the metro (even though packed on the Fri night), was a breeze.

Always try & get back on site by 5pm next day.  The Mercado de La Boqueria just off of Las Ramblas is great for a quick pick me up & make the most of that 10 journey metro pass, plus the Auditori good for a break too (and clean toilets).

Definitely more shattered this year after just 1 weekend, versus the 2 weekends last year, so yeah... getting old!

  11. Always love coming on here & reading the comments post festival.

Thought this year was fantastic, been attending since 2010 (had to miss 2017 & skipped 2018), but this year was up there with the greats.  The magic has not been lost!

As someone else said, last year (or lets say DAY), was a blip.  It was SO easy getting around this year, getting food, drink & meeting back up with friends.  I was a little worried after the BITS area was lost, but not having that trek & the quieter site (except for Sat), meant it was far less work moving from stage to stage.  The bleed from Pull & Bear to the big stages was a little odd, thought it would be the other way round but also forgetting it was mainly electronic rather than a mix of bands.

Loved the Auditori being part of the festival & not having to come back in through the gates.  Dice access behind the mixing desk a nice touch too.

Highlights were Pet Shop Boys opening day (oh and Confidence Man being the perfect warm up), left halfway through Emeralds for the end of Built to Spill on Dice (Goin' Against Your Mind into Carry the Zero), TURNSTILE easily a highlight & exceeding my hype, filled that stage & awesome crowd, Boris were fun in the Auditori too & then New Order.  Le Tigre's mix was poor at first but definitely improved.  Soul Glo were pretty intense Fri afternoon, Delgados into Sparks was heaven, LOVED Karate (missing Depeche Mode felt like the right decision after their set), also caught a few opening songs from Alvvays & they sounded brilliant.  Four Tet was fun but Fridays all timer has to be Kyary Pamyu Pamyu ('this is my last song, BOO HOO!' ha! - what a show) - Unwound & then Channel Tres both so different but equally as good.  DOMi & JD Beck were a real surprise on the Sat, fantastic set.  Wasn't mad on John Cale so made the move to My Morning Jacket as the sun was setting, bliss.  Really enjoyed St Vincent into Caroline Polachek, ears being pounded (even with earplugs!) by Litvrgy, and then again by Gilla Band.  Mala in the warehouse was good but knackered me out for JPEGMAFIA, so took advantage of Saturdays all night metro.

Also shoutout to Bala who opened Cupra on the Friday, a real joy to watch.  Oh & the Japanese Breakfast show at Razzmatazz, great closer.
