  1. Surely Sting could do a third down Pyramid slot similar to Robert Plant, Elvis Costello and other oldies who’ve done similar. Does seem like it’d be a wasted future legend slot, but it’s possible he’s not interested in that kind of thing.

    Or he’s just not playing…

I might be murdered for saying this but I've lost excitement for the prospect of Pulp being announced. I like their music but maybe it's because we've talked about them so much on here for almost 2 years now. Anyone else feel the same?

I'll probably feel different next June.

I got tickets for them in Manchester earlier this year and come the night I really wasn’t feeling it and was contemplating selling them, but I went and then the moment they came on stage I immediately snapped out of it as they were excellent. I think I’d played the hell out of them when they announced the reunion which lead to me getting a bit sick of their music, but they’re on incredible form and the stage show they’re currently touring with is pretty stellar too, so my advice would just to avoid their music and then be stoked hearing all those songs live for the first time in a while come June.

  3. Pretty dumb way of thinking. I know they do get the prestigious gig here and there and have headlined their own BST which is no small feat, but surely they realise they’re not at Glastonbury headliner level. Wonder if they’d at least accept Pyramid sub to a megastar.

I piss myself at how people jump on a name like there's something to their guessing.

Like saying Emeli Sande is gonna headline or that Roxy Music are doing the legend slot or that there’s no way Guns N Roses are gonna headline.

  5. Anybody listened to the podcast in full? Somebody on Reddit saying she can’t be talking about Madonna in that quote as they’d just previously talked about her but I cba checking to see that they’re chatting bollocks.

She's also not going to say, "we waited for Madonna but all we could get was Pink. Sorry about that". Whoever fills each of those slots she's going to be "absolutely delighted" with

Guns N Roses would like a word.

The way she's talking about it being a good thing to wait sometimes, makes me think the gamble paid off.  Emily is usually careful with her words, hyping up a big US star, for it to be Pink just seems odd

Yeah that’s what I got from it - sounds like the wait paid off rather than somebody just happening to call out of the blue whilst they also conveniently had a vacant headliner slot.

I know they tried to bill her as a Co headliner but Lizzo subbed and is absolutely huge. Glastonbury isn't a natural fit for Pink, so could see her taking a slightly lower slot if she was wanted to play the festival

Pink is on another level to Lizzo though - completely different ballpark. If Pink plays, she headlines, but yeah… I just dont see that happening, thankfully.

Sounds like they had discussions with Madge's people, who said they'd let them know in a non committal way. Then this week they've got the call. I could still see pink playing, subbing like lil nas x and lizzo or same slot as Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus did.

Pink plays and sells out stadiums so no way she’s playing lower down.

  10. A Stevie set heavy on Mac covers (she’s playing five on her current tour) would go down very well. Can’t say I’m familiar with too much of her solo stuff, but there’d be enough hits there to deliver the sing alongs and guarantee a good set.

  11. I know people are correlating the phone call being Pink to the tour dates just announced but… that’s not how it works - she wouldn’t announce tour dates and at the same time call up Glastonbury saying she’s available. Surely that would’ve happened earlier. Maybe this is pure copium from me, but I’m still going with Madonna. Pink doesn’t warrant that level of hype from Emily and her ‘you’ll see when the lineup is out’ comment wouldn’t really make sense if it was Pink, whereas with Madonna it would very much be a ‘oh sh*t they got Madonna’.

    So yeah, Madonna.

Is this pick a female American artist out the hat? How the hell are people factoring Pink into headlining Glasto?

    It’s so BLATANTLY Madonna

    Dua

    Madge

    Coldplay

Pink announced some very convenient dates yesterday that got people in a fuss, but yeah, it’s Madonna.

Pulp definitely still in the conversation

Would be insane if they’re not there in some capacity, although there goes the theory of Glastonbury being their big farewell (not that that really mattered.. just would’ve been cool).

I can't imagine Emily being so relieved they held one of the slots open so Pink could play.

It says Madge or Rihanna to me. If it's Madge and they're in talks, there's probably a good chance nothing will come of it if the talks are about money. Fingers crossed, though.

Rihanna ain’t American so that’s her out.

The optimist in me thinks the "last week" comment might refer to being at the Madonna show, which of course was last week. But after the info and discussions over the past few days, I'm thinking Pink is more likely.

    Female legend...Stevie Nicks?

Pink would (currently) make the most sense if it wasn’t for her making it sound like they’ve been waiting out a certain act. Would they really be leaving a headliner slot vacant in the hopes that Pink would get back to them?!

  16. Just now, danbailey80 said:

It could be Pink she’s referring too and she doesn’t so no to Madonna as they are still hoping she’s the third headliner.

Not ruling Madonna out is significant. Either she’s the big American artist or she’s still in talks.

also Pink is a massive American artist and although Madonna is American I’ve always considered her more a mixture of you know what I mean. Houses in UK, Italian blood etc. pink is definitely just American

Nobody is out here saying ‘Italian American artist Madonna’.

Gonna revise my thoughts and say I think Emily is 100% talking about Madonna here. Makes sense that she’d be an act they’d be leaving a slot open for which is definitely not something I think they’d be doing for Pink. Sounds like they’ve held that headliner slot open hoping Madonna would get back to them and bam, the call came in and it’s sorted.

Stevie would be brilliant, maybe Annie Lennox?

Does Annie even tour still? Looking at her recent setlists it looks like the most she’s done for a long time is some very short sporadic appearances here and there and nothing else, so unless she’s got plans to up and tour again I’d say she’s unlikely.

I’m listening to the podcast now (Sidetracked with Annie & Nick)

Emily has said they have held out longer than usual to book next years headliners. She said it will become clear why they’ve done that once the headliners are announced.

Hmm now with that I’m maybe back on the Madonna train as surely she’s the only semi-realistic act they’d be holding out for like that.

“Sometimes we do something before Christmas….What I’m really hoping for is to just announce the full line up at the beginning of the year”

Goddamnit, although it would be exciting to get it all at once, I do love our usual getting the legend and/or one headliner to really get the excitement going.

  19. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/glastonbury-2024-headliners-emily-eavis-b2435986.html

New interview from Emily with a bit of talk about next years headliners:

“2024 is still a little up in the air,” she told Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on Thursday’s episode of their podcast, Sidetracked with Annie and Nick.

“And I thought it was kind of taking shape and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we’ll be booked up from July. This year we’re holding out for a little bit longer and last week I got a call from a really big American artist saying this person’s around next year, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is incredible.’ Thank God we held the slot.”

Not giving too much away, although the realist in me says that phone call is Pink rather than Madonna who they presumably would’ve been in talks with long before last week…

    Also female legend confirmed.

If Download are booking FOB and QOTSA to headline then they are aiming for a more mainstream crowd this year, so wouldn't surprise me if she was booked. Especially if they go for Royal Blood too. That would feel like a deliberate move away from metal though.

Tbh I’d assumed they’ve gone with those headliners because they’ve had their hand forced rather than a deliberate attempt at changing things up, but you could be right, and I suppose having the likes of Avril there would sweeten the deal for the pop/punk crowd who are unsure if they want to bother with just FOB. Could be an interesting year lineup-wise if they do branch out a little bit more than usual.
