  1. The Dutch in the 70s had a massive protest call Srop de kindermood or stop killing our children. There are some protests due this weekend due we need similar
  2. Given that skilled workers atm can be on as low as 70% of the going rate I think extra taxation unfair.
  3. I looked at the replies. My brain hurts.
  4. I don't know about Priti as I have morals but I am thinking of joining the Lucy Letby fanclub https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/killer-nurse-lucy-letby-gets-31011991 I
  5. f**king hell. I am with Ecotricity. If I go with a less green provider I can nearly half my bill. I guess this is a watch this space thing.
  6. Speaking of Russell more women have come forward. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66918331.amp
  7. No idea. The gas prices have not affected me yet. At my last home we had no heating for over 18 months. Then we lived in a homeless hostel for 6months. We have been in this temporary house since July and not had to use the heating yet. I guess it is going to come as a shock if we need to use the heating. Thankfully both me and my son will get a cost of living payment each at the end of October which will ease the pain.
  8. Learning to drive would go against all my principles about car ownership. I am quite militant in my views and I want to see less cars on the road. This isn't from an environmental viewpoint but one of our society reclaiming our space. I have the same view even if we all go EV or green fuel.
  9. Just as we are losing HS2 we gain the Bee Network in Greater Manchester bringing many buses back under public ownership https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/a-new-era-in-public-27750579 I must admit I am a great fan of the TfGM and love the Metrolink. They were the first to introduce the £2 flat fare on buses and intend to keep it until this time next year. I have to laugh as the DWP have just offered me free driving lessons. Apparently driving myself will help with my anxiety about travelling. Just what the roads need, a big fat man having a panic attack behind the wheel 😉
  10. He has a PR team? He is about to announce the cancellation of HS2 to Manchester just as he is having a conference there. You can't make this sh*t up.
  11. I think my point nationalism is a thing. There is nationalism without Nazisim
  12. Did you not know the English are the boss? I'm from Hull. My family are from Glasgow. When I joined up it came up about my families membership of the Orange Lodge. It got really weird. I see myself as a Yorkshireman although I have the right to wear a tartan. The family take the piss of my accent, the Hull accent is unique. No idea what I am talking about apart from Jocks and Micks and Taff's wanting decent priced coffee
  13. Off topic a bit but think the UK needs to put to the vote the independence of its parts before even thinking the EU. The Irish had a skewed referendum but many Nationalists boycotted. We saw Scotland, that wouldn't fit in my time frame but things have changed dramatically. What about the Welsh or even the English?
  14. I'm a remainer but that would put me off. You run into the risk of endless referendum. One every 40 or 50 years seems fair to me (roughly what we have had so far)
  15. There is a great deal of research in tech solutions. One is geoengineering namely Solar Radiation Management. The main method is to spray something into the stratosphere to reflect the sun. The proposed material is Sulphur Dioxide the stuff that causes acid rain. Thousands and thousands of tonnes of the stuff each year. It's mainly big oil that fund the research as it means a tech solution can be used as a stop gap for about 49 years so they don't have to decarbonise Some whacky sh*t going on out there.
  16. Volcanoes are part of the natural cycle. We are not going to stop climate change just slow it an allow it to run at its natural progression. Arrenhius back in the 19th Century calculated that man would accelerate global warming by the burning of coal. He included Volcanoes as well. He said though it would take hundreds if not a thousand years but he did not have the foresight of the effect of oil and gas.
  17. There was a quiz I did with Greenpeace many years back. Rather than give your carbon footprint it gave a detailed ecological footprint based on all the resources you used and gave the result in how many Earth's you need to live. The closest I find find through their site is here although it is similar https://www.footprintnetwork.org/ As to what you can do you can always look at local groups in your area that may not directly say climate change but want to change their local environment. I had a breakdown, both mental and family, nearly 20 years back and one of them things that helped me was a community group. We campaigned for a few things and the area is now thriving and even has a number of LTNs which is nice. It is now essentially a 15 minute city which only benefits the environment but it took years of work with no result.
  18. Just thought I would give Evil Dead Rise a run before I cancel my Netflix. Bloody hell it is not exactly late morning viewing is it? Absolutely brilliant.
  19. I was amazed at mine. I am a bit of a green nazi usually but I am in temporary accommodation atm. I don't get out the house so I don't use taxis or public transport but I generate a lot of plastic as I am only able to use the supermarket both across the road and delivery. But I still buy uk and seasonal. Came in at 3.2.
  20. I really want to visit my brother in the US who I haven't seen for nearly 30 years. He has offered to pay but I refuse to fly. I have looked on taking a cabin on a cargo ship but it ain't cheap. The journey including train from New York would take 9 or 10 days which I would find difficult on my own with my health.
  21. Join me in trolling climate change deniers. It can be soul destroying at times but in general good for a laugh.
