  1. Well damn, sorry if Erykah Badu rubbed you the wrong way

  2. Well damn, sorry if Red Hot Chili Peppers rubbed you the wrong way cause they gave your fave festival one bad performance and you dont think what they do for their albums means anything to the landscape. Theyve been had at least one good song since 1987 and had a 50/50 funk rock split since 1984. Plus a total of 3 occasions of good albums. So a smaller less meaningful band in your eyes with less resources has been able to do that and Bruce Springsteen hasnt, so what does that tell you.

  3. Nice straw man argument, no one on here is saying she's a goddess, they're simply pointing out that Adele is a bigger act than Metallica in 2021 with a fee to match. You argue like a child...

  8. Posting as I think this is a fucking important topic. Whether at a festival, Glastonbury, or anywhere, misogyny should be challenged. Thankfully it is generally in short supply at Glastonbury. I was at a wedding tonight and while stood with 2 women I overheard the groom (forces) say “you’re not a man until you’ve banged a woman out - they teach you that in basic”. This was in the context of giving his friend advice about his ‘crazy’ girlfriend. The women I was with were visibly appalled but also visibly cowed and said nothing. They just wanted to leave. I challenged it by saying “I don’t agree with that and you shouldn’t say it.” Of a group of 6-7 men one said they agreed with me, the rest restated it. The women I was with left and took me with them. I decided to go back and challenge it again. I was told it was banter. They didn’t mean it. Maybe they didn’t, but someone heard it and it was justification for their own violence against women. Some people heard it and were scared by it. Some people may have heard or and now think that’s an acceptable thing to joke about. Hopefully my interjection means some people heard it and will reflect that violence against women, or violence of any kind, isn’t acceptable. We all need to tackle this sort of misogynistic bullshit. The women I was with shouldn’t have felt cowed. They shouldn’t have been grateful that I, a white man, acted as their white knight. Sadly it is only through men challenging men that we will probably see progress. Challenge misogyny everywhere. 💪🏻

  15. Are the headliners that bad?! Granted I don’t go to this but you’ve got someone who is being talked about as a Future Glasto headliner + KOL who sell out massive arenas. Is it mainly the undercard that’s the issue?

  16. Ezra is nowhere near headliner in mainland Europe, he opened the main stage when played Sziget in 2017. Disclosure probably will close after some arena-sized act (like Kygo after Shawn Mendes). Bastille play there once in every two years so it's almost a certainty.

  28. Plenty of them end up having roughly crossed over lineups anyway just because of acts doing 'the circuit'. I think a lot of international visitors to Primavera next year who bought instantly will be surprised how many other EU festivals next year end up looking pretty similar to this. In terms of generally good festivals around the summer look at Oya, Flow, Northside, Way Out West, Green Man, All Points East, We Love Green, Roskilde, Pukkelpop, Best Kept Secret, Down The Rabbit Hole, Lowlands, Sonar, Mad Cool, NOS Alive, Bilbao BBK.

  29. August's Paredes de Coura north of Porto is usually excellent (and plus points for the location/setting). Ditto Green Man/EOTR in Wales/SW England. Couple of others including All Points East are ok. Strangely July doesn't have any great festivals music-wise (that I'm aware of) other than Bilbao BBK in Spain.

  34. I think this is the right thread. Took DVB jnr to Coombe Abbey Park for a wander about and came across a tribute to the NHS by Standing With Giants. Its a large installation of around 300 life size NHS figures (some shown below). "To honour and thank those who work so tirelessly fighting for out freedom, in particular a tribute to those who lost their battle to COVID-19 whilst working on the frontline". Uplifting, thought provoking and sad in equal measure, its impact doubles when you walk through the display and realise that every one has been written on the back by members the public, offering thanks, support for the NHS and in some cases in memorandum for those who didn't make it. DVB jnr was more interested in the ducks 😃

  38. Pretty big accusation of sexism there. I think his issue with pagel and deepti is cause they want to bring back restrictions when he feels that is totally unnecessary. They’re also so often wrong it’s pretty infuriating. Can’t help but feel you wanted to try make some point due to the misogyny thread in the glasto section and have for some reason called out zahid in here when he says something against a male mathematician

  39. I'm afraid that I haven't read anywhere near the whole thread, but hope to when able. Some people will know that a few weeks ago my neighbours boyfriend (a martial arts black belt / cage fighter / kick boxer) had her up against the wall by her throat. Her kids knocked on our door crying and telling me and my wife what was happening to their mom. I didn't really need my wife to tell me 'Fucking get around there now', but she said some such anyway. So, I did. I am not bigging myself up, but it doesn't take a genius to know that such a violent man is going to re-direct his anger to an intervening bloke in his domestic situation. Yes, I did come out the worst for having done so. Would I do it again. The answer to that is yes - in an instant. Now switch back to a number of years ago when I was working as a Contract Manager for a firm of builders. I had to walk into an office every morning with anywhere between 30 to 40 blokes present. No women were present, at all. It was just blokes. Now, some of them would say misogynistic statements / jokes on an everyday basis. Did I call them out? No I didn't? Why not? It's because there's no way that I would have 'won'. My life, everyday, would have been made intolerable. I also chose not to because some people are beyond 'educating'. I'm not one for pissing into the wind - well, not for very long anyway! And there's the rub. It's not direct interventions like the above that will solve this problem. They will go some way to assist, but it's education from a very young age that will achieve this. Hopefully that process will water down and water down this despicable trait until a point is reached whereby it's virtually non existent (you'll always get some people who hate other people ./ all people eg, serial killers / misanthropists etc).

  41. Fabric birthday was good fun but not as strong as previous years. Craig Richards was a bit boring, was quite underwhelmed with his set. Sonja was very good but Ricardo turned up 35 minutes early and kicked her off. Was a bit surprised at that! Ricardo seemed very much on form and played very well. More of a all killer no filler set from him.. he usually spends some time dicking about but he got straight into this time. Played some dance floor classics. He also mixed in this beautiful funky / deep disco track with a beautiful melody. Really nice moment, would love to know a) how he mixed it in as it definitely had no 4/4 beat and b) what on earth the song was. Some set highlights.

  44. This speech for me is one I think applies as much to sexism, classism and racism as homophobia. It's very powerfully put and it does show that it is societal. I have heard women say some incredibly sexist things, gay people say homophobic things. We live in a society that has been designed around keeping power for rich, white men and anything that exists to challenge that is still considered quite revolutionary. We make small amounts of progress in every generation but we still have a long, long way to go. Ever since I heard this speech I accept that I am racist, sexist, classist and homophobic but the difference is I am doing my best to change it. Society has shaped all our attitudes. We have so much stuff that needs to be unlearned.
