  1. The War On Drugs before Pearl Jam would make sense.

  2. It would be the weakest set of headliners I've ever witnessed... I understand that Pop and Hip Hop heads might be big-BIG, but uh, the rock names would be underwhelming. Plus, and I speak as a non-UK attendant, neither BMTH or Liam Gallagher have any appetibility as headliner - not even in a co-head scenario. For what I can recall, they never headed any non-british major fest, also.

  4. I don't think so 😕 Their EU Tour starts the 4th of June, I don't think they'll spent enough time in Europe to be there. But I disagree with @EV123, they are a Stadium size band, look where they perform in their EU Tour... If you think that more people would be interested in Nick Cave than the Guns.., you are wrong.

  6. Down to the top five, so I'm going to have to look at the graphical breakdown soon, aren't I? Sigh. Request: please keep this going until at least the first week of November when I have a week off. Thanks in advance.

  7. Nah. You can say a lot of things about the Arctic Monkeys but saying they’ve just churned out music in the same style for their entire career isn’t one.

  8. Prices aside, the worst ticketing dick move for me is the ‘extra date added due to demand’ trick when: a) it’s obvious the extra date was already locked in before the original date went on sale, and; b) the extra date is a weekend when the original is a weekday. I’m pretty certain this is just to crank up demand/ensure a sellout on what would be the least favourable date. Billie Eilish’s agents just pulled this, adding a Friday date in Auckland after the original Thursday. However... the ultimate dick move was Tool 2020. Adding an extra Saturday night gig after the Friday night original, announced and on sale FORTY FUCKIN MINUTES after the first date sold out.

  9. What a fantastic day. Crowd were absolutely amazing throughout. Finished in 4.38 which I’ll take for a first marathon, despite being 20 mins slower than I was aiming for. Was going really well until mile 17 then back started spasming uncontrollably so was in a bit of bother until mile 22, then managed to kick on. Main thing was finishing though. A friend and I managed to raise over 5k for Cancer Research, so happy with that too.

  10. Managed 3:10. Early miles too fast, blew up at mile 20, last few miles were a world of pain. Rookie mistake. Crowds were great.

  11. I’m sure lots of us are aware of and post in the new music releases thread in the Glastonbury section (a great thread btw). However, I often hesitate posting about heavy releases in there as it’s not always the right audience for it, so I thought it’d start a thread in the DL section where those of us who are more indulged in the worlds of heavy music can discuss and recommend new releases as and when they come out 🙂

  13. Yes, a friend of mine is a massive fan of Nick Cave (to the point of him now largely forgoing almost all other music) and has tried to get me on board on numerous occasions over the past couple of decades. It all just sounds like a dirge to me. I think it's probably his voice that I just find so affected. Love The National though!

  14. Yeah I've seen Benitez linked with a return, but while I would like the narrative, I would be very surprised if it happened.

  16. Yeah, I would like to see Nick Cave but I don't think he's going to be booked because he doesn't seem to fit to the newer "Sziget style", so I replaced that spot with My Chemical Romance. If MCR won't be available, I think they will search for another pop punk band like Panic!, Blink-182, Paramore, Green Day etc. if possible. I also have some doubts if Tame Impala fits the Sziget style, but I hope they'll be there. If they're coming to Sziget I expect on that day to have a strong sub, maybe a British act like Foals, Liam or Biffy Clyro. Kings of Leon were announced before and they still have the chance to show up. I know that Stromae had a full house concert in A38 in 2014, so maybe he will be on the Main Stage this time if he comes to Sziget. I don't know if he's that popular, so if he will be there I expect another strong sub as on the Tame Impala day. Lady Gaga would be the better female pop act choice, but Dua Lipa is very popular nowadays and maybe less expensive. Maybe Billie Eilish also have a chance to show up. And yeah, it would be nice to have Eminem. This time for real. 😄

  17. The fans liked Benitez so much that any replacement was going to struggle to win people over. But I get the feeling somebody who managed Sunderland in a pretty mediocre manner a decade or so ago and who, while manager there, said he didn't want to manage Newcastle was going to find it much harder to win people over. This is to say nothing of the fact that less than a year earlier, he'd been fired for alienating everyone at Aston Villa, whose replacement manager duly got them promoted and indeed finished above Newcastle last season. Think we ended up with him due to being rejected by many preferred names, bit like how Spurs got Nuno. I felt he got very lucky last season - at the March international break we looked screwed then Willock suddenly turned into a goalscorer extraordinaire and bailed him out. Genuinely think this would've been Ashley's choice for a replacement.

  19. You put Liam twice, start again ! and take a risk, give us names for pop and rap headliners 😜 (I would love to have Garrix again, he did great in 2019..But I don't think he'll already be back)

  20. Glastonbury 2000. My mate Boo and I had decided to have a crack at the fence so a mate dropped us off near the site and within 30 minutes we were inside. We pitched up in Oxlyers, tents looking out on to the other stage and spent a couple of days just getting stoned and wandering around. On the Friday evening we were heading to the Pyramid stage and took a wrong turn, walking down next to a passing coach and found ourselves in the bit between the back of the stage and the interstage area. There was nothing much to see here, just a row of portaloos and some railing but you can see and hear the stage from behind. We stood there a while, wondering if there was any chance of seeing what was on the other side of a little path into the interstage area manned by security when one of the stewards came over, asking if we had a pen as he was trying to get an industry bod to put him on some guest list. After this we got chatting to the steward and I asked him how we could get past security through to the interesting looking area beyond, he suggested mingling with the band when they came offstage and said he'd give us the nod when to run for it. Macy Gray finished her set and he gave the nod, we hopped over the railing and sprinted across the grass, up onto the stage just as the band were coming off and walked through to the interstage area with them, getting some confused looks from them but no query from security and we were in. It wasn't anything great in there, as it happens, but we met a few radio 1 faces and saw various C-list celebrities making drunken fools of themselves, but that moment, when we were up there on the stage in front of this huge audience for the best blag I've ever been involved in, was immense. We missed the Chems that night, who by all accounts gave a legendary performance, as we were too busy gawping at faces and trying to blag drinks. Honestly we'd have probably had a better night out in the festival but the luck, judgement and risk that had seen us make it there made it hard to leave the semi-sanctuary of plastic garden chairs and soap stars.

  22. Here's one moment I remember... 2017 - I watched the Foos for a couple of songs, then decided to head to the SE corner for Dizraeli at the Rumshack, but on my way, ambling along, I happened upon a random campervan in a field decked out to look like a living room. It was the venue for a tiny mini-gig (one woman and a piano) happening alongside all the main stage headliners, so there was maybe a dozen people there, some high, some exhausted, but all laid back and appreciating the moment. I found an empty armchair and nestled in. Sat back in comfort, in the middle of a field in rural Somserset, 10,000 miles from home, I just thought it was an incredible moment I'll never experience again, with this small bunch of people in this little space. Glastonbury is as amazing for those stumbled-across experiences as it is for any top tier international act.

  23. Pulled Apart by Horses have just announced a date there (in April 2022) so they can't be far off re-opening. I walked past there one day in August and it seemed busy with activity.

  25. We were in a car for EFNY, cult film. We were shattered though - ate some chilli loaded fries in there, smoked a j, nearly fell asleep then headed off to bed. My all time favourite moment would be on Sunday 24th June, 2017 somewhere between 2am and 7am. We'd gone from the Foos to the spider, then wandered over to Shangri La where I started coming up watching London Elektricity Big Band (not that I knew who it was at the time) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3DbCqxs8TQ. Somehow we ended up walking from there over to the Park where my mate decided to call it a night, so Mrs B and I arranged to meet my brother-in-law's brother and his mates as they came back from Cineramageddon. The night was serendipitous from there on in. We found some floor booze - a litre and a half of Morgan's Spiced. We found some floor drugs - about a gram of mandy. We found floor clothes - a parrot fancy dress outfit, some very camp cowboy hats and some Latin American looking gear. In a fine mood due to our newly acquired swag, we marched back to the SE corner and ended up at Genosys until the sun came up - it was somewhere here, feeling absolutely euphoric, that I fell hard, properly hard, for the festival. It was joyous and we shared the moment, 8 of us all feeling the same things at the same time. The lineup poster now tells me we were enjoying the delights of Cab Drivers and Steffi and Virginia. We walked back through the Stone Circle to Worthy View, where I had to visit the bogs for an early morning disco shit and spent 15 minutes sat in a posh turdis smiling my head off.

  26. Been a busy week! Already mentioned a couple on here, but both MarthaGunn and The Lathums were really good last week. Last Monday was MarthaGunn. They're one of those bands that sound pretty much the same live as they do on record. For some people that's not always a bonus, but for the style of music they play I thought it worked really well. Small venue but as Brighton's where they started out it was a nice homecoming show for them, and as I only caught part of their set at Beautiful Days it was great to see a full show. Was a last minute chance to see them so wasn't there in time for the support sadly. @Gilgamesh69 did you go see them in the end? Tuesday was The Lathums supported by The Stanleys. Never heard of them before but Stanleys are another Wigan band, part of this NW guitar revival that seems to be going on. Guitarist was straight out of the John Squire playbook, and singer was a blend of Tim Burgess and Ian Brown, but with a more powerful voice. Decent enough, but not going to rush to see them again. Lathums were bloody brilliant. They just looked so happy to be where they are, and you can see how made up they are to have that #1 album. Musically they're really tight, great singalong anthems and Alex's voice is spot on live, even on the high notes he hits. Top night. Last night was Red Rum Club supported by Hushtones. Hushtones are another band I'd never heard of, but really glad I made it in time to see them. 5 piece drea-psych-indie-pop type from Liverpool. Live they reminded me a bit of Echobelly, but with synths added in. Some really nice harmonies across the band and mixed female / male lead vocals that work really well. In terms of current bands they made me think of Hadda Be and maybe a bit of Jetstream Pony. Red Rum Club are just fantastic. Got a ticket as @Gnomicide has been beating the drum for them as a live act on here, and he's absolutely right. Just great fun live, big singalongs and loads of energy. Crowd were well into it, but not that well known in Brighton so was only a small venue. Will definitely be making a beeline for them anytime they're in the area again Slow Readers Club tonight and then I've got a week off! 😄

  29. Intrigued by what they've got up their sleeves next. Nick especially always seems like a well liked/respected guy by members of other bands, with him and/or his kit popping up at various shows. Hopefully plenty more to come, even if no more LK.

  33. I was also looking forward to them, only seen them once at that Glastonbury gig in '99. I just want to be in a crowd that bounces like that again. I'd like to see: Jungle on the Pyramid late afternoon in the sun. Let's eat Grandma. M83, who I foolishly skipped last time round. Chvrches, whose star seems to have fallen but I still love the new album. Royal Blood is also a good shout, they were great fun in 2017.

  45. That’s done on purpose to make you spend more than you would do rationality. When you have a count down clock you fee like if you don’t commit then the pain of losing out will be bigger than the pain of paying. It’s the same trick that fraudsters use.
