  1. Dua Lipa? Nobody's going to care about her in 5 years time. Other than that, it would be a disastrous booking to have her as a headliner for Rock Werchter. Boutique no problem, but not Rock Werchter.

  5. I 100% agree with that, I think many female pop-RnB artists are just here for 2 albums top, but Dua Lipa seems to me way bigger, I hope she will confirm with her next album. Then we'll see if she's in the "Katy Perry - Shakira - Pink" etc.. category, or in the other... But TODAY, she might be the biggest female artist, with Billie Eilish.

  6. He's playing Ardentes, Rock en Seine and probably much more tba. Doesn't look like he needs a one-day event. Well, maybe good to have a real live experience? She's just good, nothing exceptional. She's definitely a better singer than Kiedis ๐Ÿ˜‰.

  7. Jesus Christ I needed that so bad. Royal Albert Hall tonight, not sure if it's still necessary to say spoilers follow as think it was last night of the UK tour at least but for the benefit of international readers: spoilers follow! I was in the front row and didn't realise quite how close and intense that would be. So intimate and so huge at the same time, which is what Cave always does best. It was profoundly emotional and moving and healing and everything about live music that I've missed so much. Warren was wonderful. The singers were wonderful. Just awe inspiring stuff. Can't wait to see them again. And while Ghosteen didn't really click as much as other albums on record the live versions are something else. I was in a kind of trance for much of that. And then the Carnage songs were so good. Hand of God, Shattered Ground, Balcony Man, White Elephant FUCK And some beautiful oldies too. So good.

  10. So I thought it was time that I maybe stopped posting who I've been to see in the First gig back thread given that I am now on my 5th gig back but realised that I didn't know of any other appropriate thread. I thought it would be nice if people could post gigs they have been to and just some general comments about how they were, if the support was good etc. As we are all over the world etc it might help some of us make decisions on who to go and see (whether to rock up early for the support of not) Also when it comes to Glastonbury it might help people with some of their clash decisions. Last night I saw The Staves at Albert Hall Manchester. They were supported by Samantha Crain who had a great voice but it was a bit noisy with people chatting and fans going. I'll definitely listen to some of her music though. The Staves were great. Only 2 of the 3 sisters are on tour as one is home with new baby. They had an excellent band though (and one of the guys was doing the harmonies as well) and sounded louder than ever. They looked to be having a great time being back on stage.

  12. I strapped in and delved into the YouTube comments. Apparently heโ€™s been lip-syncing to the same recording since 2013. The consensus between his Italian American fans seems to be that they know this but really DGAF.

  15. To be fair the entire "human rights" argument is ridiculous. Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool. Owned by Americans paying tax to America. A country who have killed hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) over the last 2 decades in an illegal war in the middle east and gave birth to global terrorism. Tottenham. Owned by Daniel Levy. Paying tax in the UK to a Prime Minister (Blair) who is a war criminal, who used this money to co-start above war. West Ham the same, Norwich, Brenford, Brighton, etc etc But yeah, Saudis, women, something, head dress, something, capital punishment something something...

  16. For the southerners, specifically Hampshire: The Joiners, and Wedgewood Rooms both deserve an honourable mention. Think the Joiners won a best small venue award a few years back.

  24. Biffy - Margate - Don't remember all that much, I moshed the whole gig and everyone was in high spirits, my friend said they were amazing. APE - Don't remember a whole lot of Foals, I know I moshed a bit. Bombay were great. Wide Awake Fest - Blackout, can't remember much. Which is impressive considering I didn't get out of work till around 6 and missed a whole lot. Blossoms x2 - Kentish Town - In great form as always, lost my phone, found my phone, completely didn't even realise Rick had came out. Declan McKenna - Brixton Academy - I am a massive fan of his two albums but the energy from the albums multiplies when seeing him live, almost every song could of been the big single from the crowd reaction and performance. Do Nothing - Bristol Academy - Short and sweet as it was a day festival, crowd was a bit docile but sound was great, personal mosh. Yard Act - The Lexington - Fuck amazing, got to hear some new stuff, crowd chewed it up. Only thing I would say is they seem to be bored by the material that helped them come up so quick. Mainly because the crowed seemed to every 30 secs shout one of his one liners back at them. Needless to say I went a bit to hard on the first few back. Been a fucking blast though and got some many more lined up!!!!

  29. I genuinely can't remember a single instance of a PM's conference speech being widely criticized for a lack of policy detail it simply isn't something that happens. Whilst I agree that in general the Tory commentariat are more inclined to remain positive about their leader than Labour I really don't think that is the huge handicap you seem to think it is. Johnson is still broadly popular in the country at large thanks to getting Brexit done and a decent vaccine roll out, with that as the background it's unsurprising that nobody cares if his speech is his usual after-dinner waffle. Even if there were more Tories writing in papers saying it lacks substance it just wouldn't have cut through. He'll get a harder time if we have a winter of fuel poverty and empty shelves. As for nothing Labour do being good enough, I just don't believe that, the reason Starmer gets a lot of shit about policy is because he's been in the job for over a year and the general public doesn't have a scooby what he stands for. This is partly due to the pandemic hovering up most people's current affairs bandwidth but is also because Starmer's basic pitch is he is a sensible lawyer type so is better than Corbyn/Johnson who aren't serious grown up politicians like him now that's fine but when an election comes round it needs to be backed up by a vision for the country that can be sold to those voters who don't pay much attention to politics. It's worth noting the last Leader of the Opposition who got a lot of shit for not really having any actual policies was Cameron, it meant he went into an election able to pitch his manifesto as fresh new ideas that hadn't been attacked by the Government for months/years. So maybe the Starmer lack of policy will be worth a few whingey articles in The Guardian in the long run.

  33. That was incredible, had ruined any surprises but the versions of the Ghosteen were great, both on good form and I Need You almost finished me. was sat in the choir and had one of the big lights right in front of where his standing mic was so wish Iโ€™d have paid the big money in a way but still quite close to his piano, so canโ€™t complain too much. Canโ€™t wait for Primavera and wherever they play in the UK next summer now.

  41. not bad at all - Well so far I have been to 32 although each time I am asked face to face I struggle as its not easy to work out due to the gap years + if we go by https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/history/ the total would be 35 and not 36 - there was a year in the 70's where people showed up but GFL { right or wrong } do not count that. I know I was not aware of it in 1970 or 1971 and would not have had a clue about 1979 if it was not for a festival band booker who booked a folk band in the Half Moon in Putney that I was connected to - Pilton was not even showing on a AA Car Atlas ' but we were giving a rough map on a beer mat. 1979 was the first ' 3 day event ' weekend ticket was ยฃ5 - I kid you not all the people who went with me in 1979 just dropped out in the 80's - most after 1985 { A very wet and muddy year } - turning point for me was in 1988 when I was able to join the WBC so the last actual ticket I have is 1987 { I kept all the tickets but cant find all the wrist bands }

  42. I've been to gigs 6 days in a row up until today and none of them cost more than ยฃ14. And that's in Southampton, so you don't even have to live in a music hotspot to do it. There's an unbelievable amount of amazing bands playing around the country in small venues that don't charge silly prices. Last night I saw Pom Poko and Legss, both were absolutely superb and it cost about a tenner.
