  1. Couldn't disagree with this more. FR aren't putting on a free village fete in the local park here, this is a multi-million dollar festival that people have paid £100s to attend. Expecting some degree of communication is not being "entitled". Nobody is blaming FR for all high number of drop out this year, it can't be helped, but bands being dropped from the schedule without official comment is just poor form. For all you know someone is going specifically for one of the bands that have or may not have dropped out (I went to Leeds in 2018 solely for TFB, for example). Those people deserve to know what the situation is. It's not in any way unreasonable to expect FR to officially confirm when an act drops out. Removing them on the sly from the app and not posting any proper news is super scummy.

  2. We were ultimately able to come to Worthy Pastures last weekend from France. We had an amazing time with the family, and we really enjoyed every second of our stay. Very happy to have been able to do what we never take the time to do during the festival: explore the surroundings (Pilton and Glastonbury). The atmosphere was so nice and soothing. I spare you the pictures of my ecstatic children on the Cadmus play ship, the dragon, and in the Pink Castle.

  7. Definitely felt it for Stevie. Somehow ended up right down the front through sheer luck and it felt like the entire festival was in that field pouring their goodwill and love out towards him.

  8. Agreed but at the end of the day I’m just taking it as it comes - almost to be expected with restrictions and Covid. Surprised Posty is still scheduled honestly Last year we got nothing at all so this year i don’t mind really who’s there - could it have been better? Sure. But, let’s make it what it is and still have a freakin’ amazing weekend because the festival is back at a time where we wasn’t sure whether it’d go ahead. So let’s just have a damn good time!

  10. That’s a really good description of how it was. One of my mates was at the big G for the first time and waiting for them to come on he nearly vibrates off his axis, repeating over and over “this is one of the biggest gigs ever isn’t it? Like the whole world is watching? And we’re here, stood here, this is mental. This is just massive” etc etc Then they absolutely nailed it. I love watching it back because I think you can visibly see them buzzing off it more and more as it goes along. Normally they have the richest punters down the front and they seemed to love the crowd reaction they got at Worthy. Including Charlie who was grinning ear to ear at the end (and on occasion during).

  12. This is probably going to sound like a really weird request, but wondered if anyone knows if there's any kind of AA/NA presence at EOTR as I know there is at some other fests? Last few years I've been a (sometimes barely) functioning alcoholic, festivals have always been one of the few times I could get pretty wasted for several days at a time and daytime drink without anyone judging me 😁 Won't bore you with the details, but now I'm a recovering alcoholic attending AA meetings and have been sober for 7 months. EOTR is going to be my first ever sober festival 🥳I'm not too worried about it (OK, slight lie), and I've got the best mates in the world who I'm coming with that all know the score so I've a bit of support there, but I don't want to be a downer for my mates either so having somewhere I can go for a nice cup of tea (living the dream etc) and get away from any boozey temptation for a bit would be welcome. Failing that, on the off chance that someone else in recovery reads this and is going then feel free to DM.

  13. My favourite set (said btw as a huuuge Ezra fan) was the Felice Brothers in the 'old' tip tent and no entry controls (about 2009?). Whiskey in my whiskey was the perfect 2am lyric.

  17. For those who love a map: Also glad we stocked up on food and didn’t forget anything (that we’ve noticed yet) - the general store is charging £4.50 for a tiny punnet of blueberries and £4 for a £1 bag of ice. Captive audience…

  18. I’ve had a lot of these over the last year or so in the time since I presumed to have had Covid. The trouble is that I’ve had a lot of other stuff going on that has the same symptoms so no idea if it’s long Covid or not. I’m wondering if they can develop a test for it that can check for a trace of the virus in the system. Would probably have to be a GP prescribed blood test though

  20. Great bar on the high street with happy hour. Also shows sports: https://www.barkicklondon.com/whats-on/happy-hour Another happy hour down the road: https://www.barriobars.com/shoreditch Best curry house on Brick Lane. Always busy, great food - is BYO: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186338-d3489533-Reviews-Aladin_Brick_Lane-London_England.html There are also BYO Vietnamese places just up past Bar Kick (can't recall the names, don't go there as much as I used to recently!). Bar Prague was also decent and cheap, but Google says it's shut now. Can also recommend Commercial Tavern.

  22. All about percentages though innit. Based on my extensive survey of my own behaviour which I assume applies to everyone, I know that I'm putting myself in more situations where those potential transmissions are going to happen now that I'm double jabbed. So each one's got a lower risk of me catching it, but the greater number of encounters means I'm rolling the dice more often. Bound to happen sooner or later, although I've got the added bonus of having already had it so maybe a bit more resilient. Definitely gutting about the weekend though, especially with the weather. I take it that you going and leaving her at home isn't really an option...😂

  23. Yeah, thats my general view as well. Circuit breaker lockdowns don't work, we pretty much have as much vaccine coverage as we are going to have ( unless we want to wait to vax kids, but thats another minefield) and the NHS isnt looking like its going to be overwhelmed. Any restrictions proposed now are basically going to be permanent ones. And id rather have the societal risks of Covid than social distancing as permanent thing

  24. Heya - genuine question as I'm interested and you seem to be the most informed on long COVID on here - how have medical staff been able to tell people they'll have it for life? My understanding was we don't entirely understand what it is right now, and new treatments are cropping up regularly? Unless it's trigged some underlying condition? Just struck me as odd. It's a difficult situation at the moment - just saw the Get Cape Wear Cape Fly tour due next month has been postponed as they can't get insurance for it. And shows that would normally sell fast don't seem to be selling as fast - though there could be multiple reasons for that (not least for us, it seems like every show we had booked in 2020 has been moved to September this year!) The weird thing is, I spent most of the first half of the year arguing with the "if not now, when?" crowd by saying "once all adults are double vaxxed." It seemed obvious to me - we make ourselves as safe as possible then open up. It made absolute sense to wait until that point. And that's roundabout the point we are at right now. And my view hasn't changed, which means I am now one of the "if not now, when?" crowd myself! We've done all we can, long COVID may just be something we have to deal with as a society. I don't see any other route out of it other than indefinite lockdown. We can talk all we want about distanced events and continued mask wearing, but in the period of time where we were doing that *cases were still going up*. At a slower rate, for sure, but if that's your "new normal" then they're going to continue going up (because exponential growth) and they're going to peak at the same point - it's just that peak will be at a later point in time. Which is useful if your concern is hospitals being overrun, but not if your concern is overall infection (and therefore long COVID) numbers. They'll be the same.

  29. It's the fact that he's suddenly coming out with this child exploitation/pornography/sex worker bullshit now after years of living a life celebrating the fact that he was the Nirvana baby. Had this always been his stance then I could understand a little more, but he's been reaping the benefits for years and now the money seems to have dried up he's taking another tact. Shameless cash in attempt.

  30. Maybe. Its a bit longer (85 versus 58 pages) than what became the main thread in 2019 but we've had an extra year to make it so. It's pleasantly busy this week though! I love the speculation and anticipation the week before that we're all feeling 😊

  31. I'm with you- while I'm taking part in it by going for a day tomorrow, reading and Leeds is going to be what puts next year's festival season in doubt I don't think you can social distance all however many thousands are there, masks wouldn't be able to be enforced. I've got a really weird mixed guilty feeling about these festivals I'm going to, but also feeling like I'm getting away with something I shouldn't be doing. It's good for me ahead of a very tough winter, but it's also making that winter tougher collectively. The sensible older people DO distance from others, but there are mosh pits and DJ tents and I'm pretty sure that's where its spreading the most. I guess the industry was always in a bad position- either cancel and destroy it all (capacity reduction surely the same result - less money, less jobs etc?) Or go ahead and become the obvious scapegoat. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/circuit-break-lockdown-scotland-being-24839693.amp?__twitter_impression=true this article about potential lockdowns in Scotland makes no mention of schools reopening, just nightclubs. Reading and Leeds could easily be blamed for seeding covid in schools next week, leading to our own talk of restrictions.

  32. OMG, it was like something out of a comedy, I like, was trying to find my friend near the main stage and we were totally lost, but then they said they were near a guy with a flag that said “Ban Flags” and then I was able to find them and we had a totes amazeballs time. The flag like, really helped, and if they were banned we wouldn’t have found each other. It was like, so ironic, like in that Alan Morrissey (from The Smiths) song.

  36. Absolutely gutted but the other half has just tested positive for covid so we won't be able to go. FFS. If anybody knows anybody who wants 2 adults and an under 5 (although think if they were 6 they would be OK) including the Thursday give me a shout.

  38. That’s what we found. It was reminiscent of those occasional times at the festival when you’ve had enough of the frenetic atmosphere seeing bands and you just wander into the quieter areas, sit down with a drink and maybe chat with a stranger. The stone circle at dusk with the fire lit and kids toasting marshmallows, we felt so chilled out.

  41. Usually announced on the app on the day, think they did that for Broco in 2017 and BMTH (An Invitation to Salvation) in 2018. Check here on the main 2021 thread though, and the merch stands for any merch on sale for bands not on the lineup and the fences covered in posters, sometimes there's posters saying "2pm Pit Stage" etc. Not sure how but no one is ever out of the loop if they don't want to be.

  42. I don't know if anyone has read Lol Tolhurst's memoir Two Imaginary Boys, but in that case a lawyer managed to instill a sense of grievance in Lol, leading to a lengthy court case where he sued his mates, later regretting it badly, presumably in no small part because he lost. The lawyers got paid.
