(I've updated this so thought I'd pull it out of the main thread). I've made a big Spotify playlist for End of the Road this year, along the lines of one that I usually do for Glastonbury: All the live acts on the lineup, some of the DJs (mainly if they play their own stuff) 3-6 tracks per act depending on billing Key thing is the songs included are those each act has played most often at their recent live shows (pre- and post-lockdown, and in sessions etc). These are mainly identified using Setlist.fm, and sometimes also YouTube and Google (and occasionally just guesswork for the smallest/newest acts). In current circumstances I've also been slotting some new releases straight in where it seems apt, but we should be getting some setlist info again now gigs are returning. Updated weekly or so The aim is to give the best possible preview of each act's set at the festival. Any comments/suggestions for improvements to the format or tracklisting welcome. Enjoy! Recent updated selections for Little Simz, Squid, Black Country, New Road, Dry Cleaning, Altin Gun, PVA, Drug Store Romeos (one of my fave discoveries from doing this) and Fortitude Valley.

Bit of a minefield this year! Silent Disco, Ferris Wheel & Helter Skelter are just cash, everything else is card... from the website: All End Of The Road Bars will be completely cashless for 2021. Strictly card and contactless payments only. All caterers and non-food/drink traders will be accepting cash and card. Mr. Trolley will be trialling card machines, but we recommend bringing cash just in case. The Ferris Wheel and Helter Skelter will be cash only. Silent Disco deposits will be cash only. The Programme Hut and roaming stewards will be trialling card machines, but we recommend keeping cash on hand just in case. Merch Shop will be accepting cash and card.

I don’t think many of us agree with stuff opening but also want to just make the most of this summer incase restrictions do come back. i meant Boardmasters in particular also because of how bad it has been, Latitude and other events were not even close to as bad (i say that despite getting covid there mind you)

That should be no reason for the cancellation, they just need better security and a better system in place. It is like saying every time there is an accident, events should not take place. Never been to a silent disco myself, don't people just go for a short time anyway? Or do people spend the evening in them? One good thing about reading is people can head off to the centre and a few bars.

I do agree that this whole narrative about him needing to be cancelled from producing pop singers or whatever is getting a bit silly, but you can’t deny that the albums he’s produced/written for lately - Lorde, Lana, St Vincent, Clairo, his own shit, and even Taylor - have all started to sound a bit samey and stale. Obviously it’s worked pretty damn well for a couple of them, but the quick succession of them coming out a couple of months apart for like a year now has really begun to show the guy up as a one trick pony, or at least a guy really hung up on a particular vibe right now. Not to say that he’s had total control over these records and perhaps this is just what everybody wants to sound like right now, but when every pop singer begins to sound like they’ve written their new albums whilst stoned out of their minds, you’ve gotta start looking for the constant.

I don't remember BBCC going big on it wow. In my opinion its unfair to say they are booked because of tiktok though - they are big upcoming acts that have blown up - it doesn't really matter where they blow up. not saying you are saying this but tiktok gets treated with such a stigma but its acted as a platform for so much alternative music to grow from, stuff that just wouldnt come through normally as its so un-chart. Maneskin is a massive booking right now, just a few weeks back they had 3 songs in the top 20.

Interesting article from ABC Australia today, giving a forecast of when States will reach 60%, 70% and 80% vaccination levels based on current rates.

The taliban afforded Bin Laden the pashtun custom of protection for guests. It would have been too great a taboo in their culture if they’d have given him up. In the end the yanks got Bin Laden with a special ops team but in Pakistan and after a decade of smashing the shit out of afghanistan. Why they couldn’t have done that first is a mystery. Ideally any country wouldn’t be ruled by religious hardliners who have human rights abuses baked into their ideology. But what I don’t like is the hypocrisy of the moral panic about the taliban retaking control. The taliban have held swathes of afghanistan the whole time, why was it acceptable to centrists before and not now? Why was a little bit of taliban control acceptable? Why is Saudi Arabia allowed to go on chopping off limbs of thieves, public executions, giving women no rights, forced marriages etc without the west invading? The inconsistency makes me suspect it isn’t really about human rights. And still there is no acceptance of the fact that this paternalism and interventionism of the right and centre is always doomed to fail. They have to recognise the hypocrisy of preaching liberalism but only when people do what they want them to do. You can’t force your belief system on people at gun point. End of.

Because everyone ignored covid on here when gigs could go ahead in their masses for people not fully vaccinated. I fucking said this would happen and that the rules and provisions aren't strict enough. But no, you lot knew best, choosing down vote and go against my view every time. I say you lot as well because you @atomised were a huge culprit of it. But remember, the chances of a lot of cases are low, 16 -19 years olds aren't at risk that much etc. You actually thought it was okay to go into a festival of that size with no restrictions without a definitive confirmation were many of being negative.
