  4. You do know this is as ridiculous as saying Taylor Swift's fan base relies entirely on teenage girls?

  5. 5hrs3mins to finish Salisbury Plain Marathon. Happy with that considering i'd barely trained. Hilly AF and hot and humid too. With hindsight, should've got in in under 5 hours but i wasn't really keeping an eye on time and wasn't too bothered tbh. Enjoyed having a chat at aid stations and stopped with 5k to go to help a lady in distress, who had contrived to pull BOTH calf muscles! (how does that happen???!!!) One down, two to go: Andover Trail Marathon - Sept. Beachy Head - Oct.

  10. I use the tescos air beds and battery pump!! They last well and don't deflate over nite!! They are usually half price this time of year!

  11. I don’t know what your idea of R&L is but is is wildly inaccurate. You seem to think 99% of attendees are ketty teenagers when they aren’t. Arctic Monkeys, secret or announced, would pull a gargantuan crowd. Every single year, every social media platform’s comments section is filled with people demanding Arctic Monkeys. Do you actual go to R&L? Because judging by your responses, you haven’t seen that many crowds at the festival (that isn’t satire).

  13. that first new one was awful, had a quick listen and this one is way better. both pretty poor though honestly! — saw some of the lineup’s acts this weekend at Boardmasters and some at Latitude - Sports Team (Latitude) - great show and tons of energy, latitude crowd obviously not all that especially early on in the day but it was thoroughly enjoyable declan mckenna (Latitude) - first act back for me, brazil and british bombs were huge singalongs really cannot wait to see him again / honestly wasn’t that bothered by him before easy life (Boardmasters) - great band but just didn’t work that well imo on the main stage, would have been so much better in a tent and couldn’t see them that well as the boardmasters main stage is uphill slowthai (boardmasters) - set of the weekend at reading potential honestly, the energy from the crowd at his shows is off the scale. Cannot wait for round 2!

  14. Can't see him as a headliner, would be too weak for a festival who claims to be the best in Europe (or at least ONE of the best)

  15. Reading & Leeds would still book Metallica in a heartbeat based on day ticket sales alone. Metallica for R&L 2022 😁

  16. Maybe but by skipping the UK they are missing out one of the biggest paydays in terms of ticket prices and audience size in Europe and Metrallica do like paydays.

  17. We have the same issue as you. We are coming from Jersey and double vaccinated but cannot use the NHS app and would have had to run the risk of going, getting a lateral flow test and risk of getting stuck in England if we tested positive. Good news 🙂 , they replied to our concerns this morning by email to confirm that they will now accept vaccination letter proof from the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Letters must be from your local health service / GP and have to match your ID. Their website has now been updated to reflect this: https://endoftheroadfestival.com/information/covid/ Time to just worry about the day splits and weather 😄

  18. Yeah agreed, he’s nailed on for 23 IMO. People finding excuses for him just subbing again smacks of “I don’t like him so he shouldn’t headline”. He’s treading the exact same path Earnest Ed did.

  19. Zeitgeist?? What the hell are you on about? You think anyone is buying George Ezra records because he’s part of some imaginary zeitgeist?? The people buying George Ezra records are the exact same people who buy Coldplay and Ed Sheeran records. Because he’s a nice, well spoken white dude with a guitar who makes pleasant enough songs. That stuff sells by the absolute truckload.

  24. I think you'll be fine, I read it when it came out ages ago and so didn't remember the specifics and the generalities are explained in Utopia Avenue. Bone Clocks is really the book that goes into the most detail about the magic in the Mitchell-verse but again that isn't essential if you're happy for the magic stuff just to be weird shit. I liked Bone Clocks but Utopia Avenue is at it's best when it's just about a band and nothing fantastical is going on.

  25. I was thinking about getting there early(ish) too... not because of any rush or scramble for camping (what will be will be on that front), but I need a festival experience again - even if it's just sat reading a book with a cuppa watching it get busy

  26. KoL have about one tenth of the hits that The Killers have too. If they did a JP set it'd be bouncing for three songs rather than the whole set.

  27. Id say Dance tent is where the pit /lock up stage was last time. Not the best pic but you can make out the first main stage (back of) in its original position Cranes over the far side putting up second stage Red/Blue tent also going up to the right of dance tent!

  28. My office overlooks the Reading site. Looks like Dance tent is up (Yellow and Blue) in an alternate location from previous years and cranes onsite to put up the second main stage up in the corner that used to house the R1/NME tent.

  29. 2018 checking the schedule before the Friday and seeing “An Invitation To Salvation” and working out it was Bring Me was brilliant.

  30. I'm not expecting much of it to get a look in for their stadium tour next year. Especially as they're always so reluctant to rotate out any of the hits, and it's still an Imploding The Mirage tour so those songs will take up a lot of setlist space. Very keen to hear about this intimate UK date they've mentioned, and I imagine these tracks will be the focus there. Manchester would be nice but it will almost certainly be London I suppose. It's a really nice album. Think my faves atm are Quiet Town, Sleepwalker, In Another Life and the title track.

  31. James play a big London show on Friday and Beautiful Days on Saturday. I’m hoping we’re waiting for those shows to pass and then they’ll be announced. That would be a major result for me. Can only think other shows is the reason for the replacement not being announced yet.

  32. Feeling low today. Melbourne's announced yet another extension to its sixth lockdown - another two weeks now. Plus they've brought in curfews again, which was the most draconian aspect of any lockdown we've had. Nobody can leave home between 9pm-5am until further notice. I try and be pragmatic about it, but lockdown fatigue is setting in and there's an increasing weight to the relentlessness of this situation. I suppose our slow but steady rate of vaccination is something (currently on target to vaccinate the country by early December), and when I think it through logically, I'm hopeful about next June, but it's sooooo fucking wearisome. Doesn't help that the latest extension was triggered by people who're openly breaking the rules.

  36. The idea that the Arctic Monkeys spaffed it is one of those things on this forum that a few people (most who were actually elsewhere) repeat over and over until it starts to become accepted wisdom. I was there and thought it was good.

  39. Billie looks locked in at the moment, and then IMO the other two nights are all to play for. Pick two from Taylor, Macca, Reg, AM, Kendrick, Coldplay plus more… right now all are possibilities but there is little concrete evidence outside of rumours and speculation to strongly support any of them. (If anything Reg’a dates put him in the strongest position but he has a long established history of cockteasing the festival). Will be interesting to see how the next few months play out. Can’t remember a time when the field has been so open with so many massive acts being possible.

  40. The lights dim, the eagerly anticipated secret set is about to get underway. No one knows who it is, maybe it’s a hologram of Mick Jagger and Neil Diamond duetting, maybe it’s Miley Cyrus, maybe it’s motherfucking David Attenborough. The music kicks in, we all know it’s true, we all scream along the duhderlehs and then a Scottish man shouts: “Well, you must be a girl with shoes like that”

  44. Think everyone can recognise that Bearded took the correct decision for them based on the information they had available. The fault here is with the Government actively refusing to provide guidance or any type of certainty to Bearded and other event organisers in a useful timescale.
