  1. The closer we get to the festival the more I realise how much i’m gonna miss the radio 1 and how much i’m not keen on the two main stages. Interested to see how it works this year and for them to trial it but if it isn’t great I really hope they bring back the R1 next year

  4. That introducing stage is proper quality this year isn’t it? STONE, Yard Act, Alfie Indra, Bonnie Kemplay, Calva Louise and Berwyn all really great acts. Really hoping for minimal clashes for Stone, Yard Act and Alfie Indra especially, have accepted with Calva Louise and Berwyn being headliners and subs respectively i’ll probably be elsewhere. Can’t recommend Stone and Yard Act enough if you’re into your new wave post punk semi-spoken word style stuff

  5. Interesting reading these comments. This was my first Wilderness and we basically went as a back up to our usual. I actually had a good weekend but I think that was largely down to the great company. Some pros and cons... Pros: - The site is great. I really enjoyed the little walk each morning by the lake and to see lots of people enjoying a swim (bit annoyed I never got round to doing it myself!) - Some (I repeat some) memorable sets. After a year and a half of really missing these kinds of experiences it was great to be able to enjoy sets from bands or artists I'd enjoyed in lockdown. Highlights for me were Sports Team, Mahalia and Weird Milk on the main stage. Some great DJs too - Blessed Madonna was especially great. - Nice people. Whilst there were definitely one or two idiots around the campsite I genuinely met some really lovely people. - The House of Sublime. Spent two amazing nights there. Our crew are all gay so we really enjoyed a lot of the alternative and queer entertainment on offer. Cons: - Stewarding/General safety. Not to say those there didn't do a good job but I really felt a lack of stewarding and security on site. Sometimes that can be a good thing but some venues that really needed to be operating a one in, one out policy would just have a single steward down the front not really doing anything. I would not know what would have happened if there was an incident. - Facilities. Not enough toilets on site and an actual disgrace that there were just ten portaloos at the Valley. The mud was also impossible to deal with in parts of The Valley too where I believe someone even broke their leg one night. We were at the far end of the campsite and it was quite annoying to have no food vendors anywhere near us. I'm sure another breakfast bar (even just one) would have done well from punters where we were. - Main stage line up. Whilst I really enjoyed the sets I went to it did feel really noticeable to not have another name like Foals on the line up. Felt like a big step down on the 2020 line up. All in all I had a good time and have made some great memories too. I do think part of the enjoyment just came from being with good friends sat around talking nonsense in a campsite again though. I would probably consider returning next year if the line up was an improvement on this year but only as a back up if we decide to go to more than just Glastonbury.

  7. On the train back from volunteering at wilderness. It was joyous. Covid checks on the way in for customers, almost everyone was fine with this. They were accepting all manner of proof, NHS App Pass, emails, texts, even some people who brought the actual lateral flow kit. Only issue was originally people had to re-check these every time they went back and forth between the car and some got caught out without their phone so were asked to retest on the gate That requirement got dropped by mid-afternoon on the first day. Bar staff were in face masks but that was really the only noticeable measure. Staff got issued wristbands that were scanned at each gate in the site to check you'd had a negative lateral flow in the last 48 hours, stress on Friday having to do that before the music started. Otherwise a lovely experience, great music. Loyle carner and Mahalia were great. Bicep fantastic. Jamie xx set out a slightly different vibe showing what he wants to be booked for in the next 1-2 years. Bloody brilliant time.

  8. Strange Glastonbury Experience number 307. As i was on site on the Tuesday prepping for arrivals on Wednesday, i was sat up at the Stone Circle relaxing and doing my lateral flow test of all things! Makes a change from what is usually going up peoples noses in that locale. I heard some noises and peered across as a couple of Deer came leaping down the field. Was quite a moment. Think they were heading to the Park Stage for *insert appropriate act name here. A nice joyful moment. Also took a video.

  9. STONE are great, so glad that they've made it to R+L as there's been some great artists and bands play on the Introducing and then go on to much bigger things, i'm hoping for the same for them. Liverpools music scene at the moment is buzzing and definitely should be on everyones radar.

  10. What’s annoying is that the festival aren’t even keeping us up to date. The fact Spiritbox have pulled out was discovered because someone spotted it on their instagram and Ho99o9 have been removed from the poster without comment. Fair play to Bloodstock who have kept us up to date every time there is a line up change.

  11. Wilderness dodged a bullet with Supergrass given the Tramlines feedback (and they were boring at Latitude). Jamie XX instead of Foals was a slight downgrade but Rudimental over Supergrass is much better. Rest is much of a muchness compared to last years.

  14. I think that’s what the crowd wants. Lots of DJs and more rap and dance. Its very nice to show up with kids and watch the cricket and row a boat. But that doesn’t bring in the £££s. It was my first Wilderness and the vibe was affluent 20-50 who wanted cocktails, champagne (not Prosecco), to dance and, ahem, other things. The families looked out of place in the evening.

  15. Just back from the festival and had a blast. Loyle Carner was fantastic and you could feel the buzz in the crowd. Mahalia was a good sub. Jaime XX is a bland headliner as a DJ set imo. Rudimental we’re fantastic and the choir and supporting performers they brought along (including Anne-Marie!) we’re electric. A proper headline set. Valley was a party but got to get there in good time just like SE corner. Show up at peak time and get what you expect. I saw Thrill Collins doing mash ups of songs at The Jumpyard on Thursday. They were amazing. Non-music stuff was entertaining, such as the cricket, and the guy roasting the players on the mic was hilarious. House of Sublime was fun whenever you popped your head in. Free rowing boats were cool. Food options plentiful, had some cracking meals. Few you will see at Glasto, Green Man etc such as budda bowl and Dosa. Nyetimber tent was a good place to hang out and neck a couple of bottles away from the rain. Verve Clicquot tent was good for a party later in the night and £15 a glass was reasonable. Had a cocktail making class at Red Bull tent for £18, inc two cocktails to drink. Malfi gin tent did a good cocktail for £10. Saturday night rain pummelled cheap and badly put up tents. That was a wild hour where you just had to take shelter. Loos were bad, arena wasn’t too muddy, paths in and out of camps were muddy. Very little hay/wood chipping used to cancel it out - that was an error. If you want the real Wildnerness experience (ironically) you have to pay for top end boutique camping. If you don’t, it’s just a regular festival with fancy frills in the arena. 50/50 if I’ll go back.

  21. That sounds like a lot of hard work, they are braver than me. our trip is something we have wanted to do for a long time but are just getting to the point where we can do it. We are probably not going for a few years yet, got a vehicle to build, money to save and we will wait until a certain you know what has buggered off for good.

  22. Doubt the beer would change like that - San Miguel is already a Carlsberg property and a much better fit for the intended tone of the festival. Same for that nice Italian lager being sold near the main stage.

  23. Not heard anything. Situations like this are different to pre booked acts with scheduled press releases. A guess would be either another act that's played a Superstruct event recently or someone that's penciled in next year. Tramlines with Supergrass it was a case of both.

  29. I love the Radio 1 tent so much. You often forget it's daylight until you step back outside. Sound, lighting, viewing points all excellent. Have had so many of my all-time favourite festival moments in that tent. I understand the reasons behind the changes but do hope they U-turn next year.

  30. Yeah. Had my flights cancelled by Loganair - but they didnt tell me until I smelled a rat and called them this morning - but now Im arriving a few hours earlier so hopefully drink in hand by 4pm which is the earliest Ive been on site. 24 days! Loganair though yeah, fuck me. "Err were you going to let me know the flight has been cancelled at any stage"? "Im sure we would have communicated it in due course yes sir. So would you like a refund then?" "Well is the flight cancelled?" "Unfortunately yes" "Well, err, yeah Id like my money back in that case".

  31. Most of my runs are in the 8-14k range at a very easy pace (according to my heart rate). Maybe once a week I’ll do a harder one with some fast repeats or hill sprints. I’ve also mapped a course in my area that matches the same average elevation gain as the race I’m doing over a 5 mile loop so I try to do that quite often as well. On the weekends I try to do a longer one in the region of 25-30k with some hills. I’m aiming to build that up slowly over the next few weeks and peak early/middle October with a couple of 50ks and also one or two weekends where I do a 20-25 k run on both the Saturday and Sunday. On the longer runs I do carry a small pack with a litre of water and usually a few snacks. I still need to experiment with what food works best but I usually rely on “real” food like fruit and a peanut butter sandwich. I also like energy bars like Tribe or Cliff Bars. I haven’t tried using gels actually but plan to see if that works better or not over the next few months.

  37. Sadly Carlsberg are the beer provider again this year. No doubt they'll have a tent selling cold crates. I haven't seen the usual "pre-order a cold crate" thing though this year. The app usually gets bands in the "Discover" section shortly after they're announced. I understand why they've taken their time this year, but you'd think they'd have them in by now. Stuff like the schedule is usually quite last minute i think.

  38. As everyone has said, well done on the sobriety mate, it's a great achievement. Might be a bit extreme, but on my one interaction with the first aid and welfare team they were so friendly, kind and non judgemental, that popping to the welfare tent if it really gets too much isn't the worst idea. I'm very sure they'd give you a seat, have a chat and a cup of tea. Less full on, but once you head to healing gardens beyond the garden stage, and the creative area around the talking head stage there are no bars at all, plus with stuff to do. Could be a nice relaxation point - I've used the talking heads stage as a distraction before when i've been feeling a bit worse for wear

  45. I listened to and then read Ready Player One. Just finished listening to the sequel which is imaginatively titled Ready Player Two. What makes the audiobooks worth it in some cases is the narrator. In the case of these books they were narrated by Star Treks Will Wheaton. It made for some interesting meta references as the first book actually has a lot of Star Trek references within. Another good pairing of book and narration is the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy narrated by Stephen Fry. Having a familiar voice telling the story is certainly a huge plus point.
