  1. Its a fair point, I think it's going to inevitably not be the EOTR we know and love this year, there's going to be cancellations, additional measures, admin, hassle. It's not going to be the straightforward 'everything just works' thing that we've all got used to. But it's alright. Frankly, after being stuck in Russia for 9 months, after not seeing my friends for nigh on two years, I'll take a bit of ballache and the odd last-minute dropout. Right now, I'd be happy enough to sit on a field for 3 days while @Brave Sir Robinjust presses shuffle on his playlist.

  2. Defend what, the festival going ahead? Case rates are falling, the death rate is a fraction of previous waves, the vaccine is doing its job. The festival will no doubt lead to spread, a huge amount above the norm though? It doesn’t look like it

  4. 'Oneybells? Yeah, triffic tents, but you gotta look after yourself. Tangerine Fields? Good alternative. Can we do a deal? We'll see

  6. Under normal circumstances it wouldn't be okay but when we've vaccinated 88.7%/73.0% of the population it's as good as we're going to get. It'll obviously lead to a small increase in cases but numbers won't be astronomical. If anyone is worried about the effects then no one is forcing them to go and put themselves in the centre of the crowd. Point is the population is about as well protected from Covid-19 as it ever will be. If festivals don't go ahead now they never will.

  7. Ill be happy if theres music of some sort, booze of some sort and food of some sort. Everything else is a bonus.

  8. And the point you seem to be deliberately missing is that there is no way the festival would turn down the opportunity to sign up a bona fide living legend for the sake of some diversity quota you’ve invented - on that note, is not one of the world’s most prominent gay musicians and rights advocates pretty diverse? I think you’re giving too much thought to the Kendrick/youth thing. I don’t think the average punter cares that much, it certainly doesn’t matter as much you seem to think it does. Most people will just see that Elton John is playing and be excited to see him, or they’ll go elsewhere.

  10. Honestly I agree with this. Not having the festival last year was honestly detrimental on my mental health. Plus, festivals like this helps the bands playing more than get back on their feet after a horrific 18+ month for the entire music industry

  12. I'm sorry. I reacted stupidly, went to immediately delete it because it wasn't fair on wolfamongwolves at least and only served to make me look like an impetuous c**t but - I know this sounds like a bullshit excuse but I promise you it isn't - my browser and then Windows crashed and I've only just been able to get back on here because having rebooted and got the browser working again the forum itself was down for a while. I'm honestly sorry. I won't post again because it's the clearest indication that I can't trust myself.

  13. The last 2 weekends I've been to Latitude and Farmfest. OK so you had to show a vaccination certificate or negative LFT to enter, but after that the only very noticeable difference to normal was some limit on people entering tents with enclosed sides, so they weren't rammed. Yes, some acts had to cancel and were replaced, and a number of folk who would like to have been attending decided not to or couldn't following a ping or positive test. But after the last 18 months or so, it pretty much seemed like a return to normality. I had wondered how people would behave, and personally wasn't going anywhere near a Chemical Brothers sized mosh-pit of people either side of their 20th birthday (i.e. most likely statistically to be carrying Covid), but I saw almost no one wearing masks, and crowds not significantly more distanced than at a pre-pandemic fest. I was maybe a little surprised, but happy to go with the flow. So maybe we don't get exactly the EOTR we know and love, but hopefully Simon and the team deliver some pretty close to it.

  16. Sunday breakfast post swim frothy coffee in Southbourne (Bournemouth). My two night trip was fantastic. I so love what I’ve made. I’ve now got a medium size job list of finishing off and a few niggles and snags. Perfectly doable. Then I hit Scotland next Wednesday.

  18. Same here. I got to meet Hot Chip, Swim Deep, Goat Girl and Lucy Blue briefly. I had to go and find Alice from Dream Wife for someone, & Maisey Adam the comedian stopped and chatted to us for quite a while.

  24. It’s not realistic to suggest zero cases and the fact that only 0.05% of people attending the festival had it or caught it there shows that it’s very safe. Not sure what else to expect tbh.

  28. Having never been that interested in the headliners, I'll be happy as long as there's artists I've never heard of, twinkly art in the gardens and most of the old food vendors coming back. Really need to do some planning though, as only have the ticket and no idea how I'm getting there or what I'm staying in. Forgot to get a campervan ticket and haven't put up a tent for 5 years, though it is one of those little Quercha things that even idiots like me can do.

  31. No, we usually get the 4 person Honeybell (RIP) tent for the 2 of us. Plenty of space, so the companies will just bring along the number of tents ordered - assuming they have the stock. But they’ve never asked for numbers. It’s expensive, but it’s a great setup with no hassle at all. There’s a few of us fly down from Glasgow so bringing our own gear isn’t an option.

  33. My sister lives in Falmouth (well, very near) so know a few spots. The Pandora Inn in Restronguet Creek is a lovely place for a sundown beer - sat on a bench on their floating pontoon. Bango in Penryn does amazing Asian fusion takeaway - take it and sit on the beach at Flushing to eat. Amanzi in the middle of Falmouth does great South African food - bit pricey though. There’s a nice bar in Mylor harbour too, where you can get a decent meal (including really good pizza oven pizzas), a drink and watch the comings and goings of small yachts. Gyllyngvase Beach cafe is in a beautiful spot and there is a good coastal walk that runs off the end of the beach, plus ornamental gardens next door if you need some shade. The maritime museum is good, but a bit pricey. You could pick up some cheap tat in Trago too 😂 Now restrictions are easing there should be some local bands playing around Falmouth but it won’t be as busy as during term time.

  34. There is mate, we got the shuttle bus there for the first time last year, pretty good really, plenty of buses. Think you get picked up behind guest/yellow camping but not 100% sure. 35. The vaccine is there to protect people and most should have the 1st dose. Only 20 cases out of 40k at Latitude so safer to be at a festival than most places but we knew that right because it’s outdoors?

  36. Sounds a bit similar to Timber festival that I went to a few weeks back. Snapped Ankles who were the main headliner pulled out due to covid. Disappointingly hardly anyone attending knew they had pulled out until very last minute, Snapped Ankles made no reference to not playing on any of their own social media from what I saw, while the festival organisers only announced it via an Instagram live story. £3.50 a pint at Timber so not all was lost!

  38. Also, don't think this is the case for Glasto like it might be for other festivals. Tickets havent been sold to punters & fans on the promise of Kendrick so there isnt the same obligation to provide a similar alternative...

  40. I'm going to speculate that 'Packs' might be added. For those who don't know they are from Canada and have recently announced a one off London date on 14th September (Sebright Arms). Seems a long and expensive way to travel for a one off gig at a tiny venue.

  42. Depending on what you’re into - Courting sound like Sports Team, Talk Show and NewDad are also a decent small indie bands, Gender Roles are punk rock or garage rock, Phoxjaw are a rock band, Salam are a rock band with the same singer as Creeper, TV Priest sound like Idles. All those playing Exchange, Rough Trade or Louisiana.

  43. I really wish Biffy would drag out The Captain for 12 minutes like Foo Fighters did with The Pretender. Maybe they’ll bring out Bungle too to do a cover of the Rainbow theme song. That’s what the people want to see in a headline band. Imagine if they played 3 more of their own songs in the time they spent doing that? No thank you.

  44. I think contactless payments are so widely used now it renders this system obsolete before its even come of age. What’s the point in people adding funds to a payment device when they already have one in their pocket?

  45. Here’s a full pic of my old man’s “shed” - he built it in his back garden. It’s 7m x 4m - massive. He’s got far more kit than he needs considering he’s a woodworking hobbyist. You’ll see a grinder (he hasn’t heard of Nick Cave so jokes to that effect are lost on him), pillar drill, chop saw, band saw, another pillar drill, lathe and table saw.
