  2. Got tickets for Greenman this morning. Was all very impromptu and last minute, just thought I'd try, then suddenly got through and asked the family if they fancied going...and they were all like wtf...err..ok then...so we're going.

  4. After a year and a half finally got chance to make the trip back to the North East at the weekend to see friends and family and introduce Littlest Padgey to them all. Also met up with my Glasto crew, both of them, for a catch up and discuss next years festival.

  8. So many questions, eh? Who will remain on the line-up, and if they get scrubbed, who might replace them? Will there be any comedy? Who's curating the films, and what's the programme? Will there be an EOTR CD this year, and will it feature 5 minute segments of no-show silence? Will the festival programme consist of photocopied pages stapled together the night before? Will the clothes & second hand records guy be there? Will there be late night shows and will we be able to see a final night mash-up of 3-4 different bands on stage in the Tipi in the time-honoured tradition? Will the quality of the tea bus bacon-and-egg sandwiches at breakfast be maintained? Will the direction sign at Dennis Lane be maliciously reversed? What time on the Wednesday will the set-ups video appear? Will the Wave Pictures get a last-minute call-up? And let's not start talking about the weather forecast just yet? Or shall we?

  9. Which is so stupid. I had to go to the UK in 2 weeks. I'm fully vaccinated + 14 days with a vaccine used in UK (Moderna) but stil have to do a quarantine. It's possible to make a PCR Test on day 5 of the quarantine to end it earlier but the tests cost so much (like 60£ minimum). And in the opposite, same thing for British fully vaccinated coming in Mainland Europe. Just because both UK/EU don't reckon the Covid Passport of each other. More than countries own rules, it's also because of the Brexit.

  18. I had all three shifts doing the covid screening in the General Campervan field (I'll get an arena shift one day, surely) and it never really got that busy. We ended up having to Hotspot people a few times to get them on the NHS app. Only had a couple of awkward customers, one a very angry woman who was pissed off she couldn't use her card as proof. Fair enough, it's about as secure as showing a negative LFT text message but they were told before (and told to screenshot the app because of the shit mobile coverage). She was genuinely furious, the kind of angry that could knock a less confident steward, but the guy she shouted at has done it for ages so wasn't bothered. "I have my card, I have cancer(!?) and I just want to get in to this fucking festival". I'm working Wilderness next which isn't a test event but is using the same system. And I'm told the mobile coverage is even worse. The second was an old fella who'd actually been through the day before but came back to tell me that the whole thing was a scam as no one was actually checking anyone's covid status as he wasn't checked. It was all a conspiracy by the government to make it look like things were all OK. As a lowly volunteer steward (not even a supervisor this time) government conspiracies are a little above my paygrade. But then I would say that wouldn't I? He was harmless enough, and to be honest entertained me for a few minutes during a fairly dull shift. I pointed out that was literally why we were there, and offered to let him stay and watch us check people as they came through, but he seemed less bothered by this point. Especially when his wife pointed out she had been checked! So if he'd just mentioned it to her he could have saved himself the time!

  19. There will be campsite hubs around the site each with a manned property storage/lockup area. We don’t advise bringing valuables, but lockups will be accessible during daylight hours for small items. Campsite Hubs will be staffed 8am – 8pm. https://worthypastures.com/facilities/

  20. Went to Summer of Love festival this just gone weekend, a small two day dance festival just outside of bristol, and god it felt good just to be stood in a field with mates watching live music. Unbelievably excited for Reading now that i’m totally confident it’ll happen, don’t care who pulls out at this point just being back at a proper festival is enough for me

  25. Two fun facts about Flora Duffy becoming Bermuda's first ever Olympic champion - in women's triathlon: 1. It means Bermuda is now the smallest country, population-wise, ever to win a Summer Olympic title 2. The distance of an Olympic triathlon is longer than the island of Bermuda itself!

  28. Let's see how much of the 5 days in a field I can actually remember 😅 So, arrived Weds around 3pm ish, campervan set up gin poured, Covid passes & wristbanded by around 3.30ish - and happily that was the last time I even thought about the pandemic all weekend! Thurs we had a wander around the rest of the camping areas earlyafternoon as the steward on CV gate said it was all open... it was not, the arena opened at 5pm as usual. Wandered around Thurs eve, which felt much, much busier than any previous Thurs eve, but was totally expected to be honest. Worried there was no gin bar after a full sweep of the site.... found the gin bar hidden in the Forbidden Forrest, it soon became our second home 😉 Saw The Mighty Flux in The Trailer Park - brilliant fun - danced to a jungle track telling us not to destroy the jungle. More gin... Fri - wow so many people everywhere! More gin. Definitely saw Maisie Adams on Comedy stage, some of Hot Chip, had dinner with a pair of nurses who were 90s clubbers (as were we, excellent conversations) taught another couple the pincer move of sweeping up outside the left hand side of a tent/stage and winding up "front left, by the speaker" More gin. Sat - finally accepting of the sheer volume of people, leaning into being surrounded by sweaty, dusty festivallers - ah yes, this is home! Churros for breakfast. Kerry Godliman set luckily started later than scheduled so we managed to see it all. Gin. Preparations for evening shenanigans. The Chemical Brothers - absolutely wow! Met another couple of 90s clubbers & he was sooooooo excited totally made my night, hugged strangers, danced in warm rain, lightning! 3Ds at The Out Post - yes please. Emergency tunes from the Ambulance in the Kids field. Sun - scraped selves up, grabbed a charity taxi, Bill Bailey! Pretty close to the front, begged & borrowed sunscreen- it was cloudy when we left the van! I'm an idiot😅 Vegan Dog yum, fuckin, yum. Gin... There may very well be more but that's what I can currently remember 😁 yes there were some queues for food but if you have to queue then the food will be good! I waited over half hour for a Vegan Dog, it was well and truly worth it. Toilets; never had to queue too long, it there were massive lines I'd just head for another block, nothing is too far away. The ones at the back of kids field usually no queues at all. You just have to be smart about when to go to the loo 😅 There were definitely fewer food traders but us hospitality bods have had it tough the last 18 months, many traders have gone out of business, many traders will stay at their more local food led events where the pitch fees are cheaper, and chatting to 1 trader they said they were having to use Festival Republics payment systems (card readers etc) and that FR were keeping the payments for over 7 days before they would release the £££££ - if that is correct then a lot of traders may not have wanted to go that route. To surmise; bloody hell if was good to get back in a field, to not have internet so no BBC news app jumping in and spoiling the fun with its "breaking news", to totally forget about the real world, get back to the basics, campervan, nature, fresh air, live music, comedy, gin - more please 😁 Fuck me though how fucking good was the Chems gig 😍😍😍

  30. As a self confessed Plastic Mermaids nutter I've been following her in parallel with PM. Rhain (Rhian), Flo and Hester were and are the main collaborators with PM and form the backbone of the choir/backing singers that accompany PM on tour and live. Rhain normally sings the 'Saturn' intro live as well as other bits. She has a proper powerful operatic voice, diametrically opposed to what you get with Wet Leg. Think they had a song called 'Girlfriend' out last year which got wiped from everywhere (no idea why). So not actually in Plastic Mermaids but all from the IoW and work closely with them.

  31. Absolutely loved it, already booked VIP for next year with an apartment 20 minute walk from the park. Highlights were Little Simz and Dizzee, the later being on the best festival sets I've ever seen, the crowd and performance just both being unreal. VIP was a brilliant little set up, queued for one drink all weekend, Saturday we didnt have anyone to watch until The Sherlocks at half five so got in early, got a bench in VIP and spent a good few hours just ploughing ciders and chatting, amazing time after all the shit of being locked away for months on end doing fuck all.

  32. Overall a great festival-the weather was perfect, enough mix of bands for such a short notice pull together line up. Toilets weren’t too bad - just never go just when a band ends! Some queues very long for food but generally enough choice for all. noticeably slightly less on offer over all and the Lake Stage was missing from when we were last there. general green/red camping miles away from arena but had loads of space around us. beer and food prices high but traders have had a tough time of it over these past 2 summers so can understand. Usual teenagers celebrating end of school etc but forgive their rowdiness given the past 2 summers they have had as well. Highlights- Lynx, Sports Team, Vaccines, Bombay Bicycle Club, Supergrass, Wolf Alice, Chems, Self Esteem, Bastille, the staves. Didn’t see any theatre, comedy or smaller venues this year as wanted to keep space around me. worse part - walking back and forth to tent! Bonus though was not being too far from car! Also 10 hours to get home to Bournemouth due to horrendous traffic on A12 with it’s 2 accidents 🙁

  34. Had a bloody great time (apart from the 7.5 hour drive back home). Main things for me were - they screwed up large on the general camping allocation of space. I arrived early and found space but others arriving later on the Thursday and on Friday were really struggling to find somewhere to pitch up.They ended up pitched in walkways, by the edge of paths and basically anywhere that was not a firebreak. Conversely, family camping, family campervans and general campervans were wallowing in acres of space (embarrassingly so in comparison to general camping). Pink Moon etc ......many of those tents were literally pitched by the clangers, under the lights and near the generators .......I would have complained should I have been in there and paid that. Water- Green camping especially, the water pressure was crap - took me 30 minutes to fill an average sized water container. It was just a dribble. Clangers were normally cleanish and usable. Naturally there were going to be pullouts of acts and they did a good job of covering those. We expected that, but there were several holes in the schedule. Sunday night Bastille vs a Covid depleted Sons of Kemet meant an early night. Plaudits to: Wolf Alice, confident, assured and developed in six short years into nailed on headliners. Anna Meredith - mesmerising. Vlure - cracking set. Bombay Bicycle Club = not really familiar with them, but absolutely slotted it. Chemical Brothers - Party. Just Mustard. Loud and moody. Supergrass/Kaiser Chiefs - did what they do well and captured the joyous spirit of people being in a field again. Damon Albarn - Form is temporary, class is permament - what a setting! The Staves - seemingly missing one Stave but making no reference to it but putting in a slick performance anyway. The weather. Hot, sweaty and humid but we dodged a bullet with those thunderstorms. I can forgive the rest. Just great to be back. Roll on EoTR.

  35. Better luck this time 😊 Sadly can’t do BD this year. Just come back from Latitude and if you go for it as everyone seemed to there it will be even better given the vibe at BD. Standing in a field with loads of other folks all enjoying the same experience is bloody straightforward but you forget how amazing it leaves you. Enjoy!

  36. Can you imagine telling yourself at the start of the year that R+L was pretty much definitely going ahead, you're going, you think the lineup is great... but one month before you're disappointed because they haven't finalised the replacement acts for ones who can't make it? The acts who were second choice to Neck Deep?

  39. This was me on Friday. Had a really bad day at work and the gig on Friday completely turned it around. Reminded me how much I had lost out in the last 18 months and how much work has contributed to me being in bad spirits because I didn't have the little releases to make me happier again. In other good news Nuala's tail is wagging again!! Sister-in-law is home binge watching tv shows. She's not out of the woods yet, her remaining kidney isn't performing as well as they'd like and her blood pressure is high as they had to take her off her medication but hopefully it's on the way to healing.

  40. I got back yesterday evening. A combination of not enough to see for my taste on Sunday and having to work today, that decision was made before I arrived. But what a fun weekend. I was initially pleasantly surprised with the lack of weirdness or anxiety in myself or anyone else, as soon as we arrived and pitched up, we immediately slotted into festival-mode, like we'd never been away. No queues to get in upon arrival early afternoon on Thursday and despite concerns over the perceived smaller area for regular campers, plenty of space in which to pitch up comfortably. The weather was nigh-on perfect, the very light thundery showers actually added to the atmosphere during the Chemical Brothers! It was all very well organised, which is a fantastic achievement, given the timescales and ongoing situation. Sure, there were a few queues for bars and toilets on occasions (we have to figure out a way to improve this situation for women, their queues are always 10x longer than the mens, for obvious reasons). Food options were varied and the Street Feast seated area is a great idea. Music-wise, everyone I saw was great with an obvious appreciation for being able to perform again. I was excited by up-and-coming acts like Lynks (so good I caught the secret set in the woods) and Vlure. The Snuts and Dream Wife are going to be huge, nobody is making music like Squid at the moment, Hot Chip were as good as ever, Rudamental were great fun, the perfect festival act but my absolute highlight was the Chemical Brothers. I've seen them many times since 1996 and twice recently, including Glastonbury in 2019 and on tour in Cardiff. Those last two occasions, as great as they were, it felt slightly "samey". Saturday night though, they were truly spectacular, possibly the best I've seen them. The perfect flow of big beat and their brand of anthemic techno/electronica, in a euphoric, friendly atmosphere. My only slight criticism is the alcohol price. £6-£6.50 for a pint is expensive but expected, I guess. This will be the situation going forward for most festivals so we'll have to budget accordingly, particularly for arena-style festivals where you can't take in your own booze. It's a strange demographic at Latitude. A mix of GCSE/A-Level teens, families and regular punters. Wreck heads are few and far between, probably due to a lack of super late night activity. I did notice some slightly worse for wear kids, which I suppose is understandable to a certain extent but most worryingly, their friends don't seem to know they've got to take care of each other. I do worry for the younger generation in that sense. Anyway, to summarise, it was pretty much the perfect way to ease back into festival life after a barren two years. Thanks to the organisers, staff and volunteers who created a safe and fun environment in difficult and ever-changing circumstances. I hope everyone on here had a great time, looking forward to reading about your experiences.

  42. I've been here 4 weeks busting my ass, along with hundreds of others to try get this event together in a short space of time from when they decided to go ahead. Am sure as the poster above said, I'd rather have what has turned out to be an amazing weekend rather than nothing at all!

  43. Wow. Just, …wow. I know we’ve all heard a million covid-excuses and we’re we’re all a bit cynical, but I work in the events industry and what Latitude pulled off this weekend with the current constraints was pretty fucking miraculous. Yes there were fewer food and drink concessions, so you had to wait a bit. Did that really make it a lousy festival? Rather than going back to 2019 and beyond, try comparing Latitude 2021 with Latitude 2020. See how far you get there
