  1. Not sure it counts as good news really, but I carved a Glasto themed pumpkin today and it didn't turn out too bad! https://www.instagram.com/p/CGyDtHWhTc3/?igshid=h84ld6zl56we

  2. The Mrs is on the Oxford trial, and while we have no idea if she's had the actual vaccine or is in the control group, we have a sense that a) she's had the vaccine, and b) it works. This is mainly because she is a geriatrician on a ward (south yorks) where everyone is either Covid positive or their weekly test justt isn't back yet, the infection control is pretty whack due to the hospital being old and utterly unsuited for a pandemic, and docs and nurses (who aren't on the trial) are dropping like flies. Yet, she's completely fine. So, I'm hopeful, if they can ramp this thing up to scale

  4. I don't think there would be any cause for concern that they won't roll our tickets over now. As I think @incident said on this thread or another, there's a precedent now - and one that has been welcomed by the 99.99% (estimate) who didn't claim the money back. But on 'fairness'... I don't think we have a 'right' to attend the next festival because of a successful purchase attempt for the 2020 fest and I believe we should really see us being allowed to keep our tickets as a gesture of goodwill. It's a mutually beneficial gesture too, but if there was a point where the festival could no lo

  9. Anyone else thing the new nbt album is class? I liked a few of their songs before hand but listening to this is really getting into them (especially moral panic the song, phobia, impossible and before we drift away) even considering tickets for their Plymouth show

  10. I'd be surprised if there are many who aren't suffering covid fatigue. That doesn't mean you don't accept the science and follow the guidelines, but surely everyone's sick of this shit by now.

  16. I think there's probably an element of, if people don't see something with their own eyes, they don't quite think it exists (or it doesn't seem so real or urgent)- in many ways, this most recent surge has been invisible to a lot of people, so it's almost like the idea of eating healthy (they know they should do it, but probably don't most of the time, because the threat of not doing so seems so distant and far off). If deaths start sky rocketing, or wards get visibly overloaded, or they have direct experience of knowing someone who dies, then compliance would also soar (like if someone you kno

  17. Cases around the 20k mark from Tuesday till Sunday seems like a plateau to me .... looking at the way France went they have just continued the same trajectory ... it’s always worth trying to see some positives at times and that’s what I try to do ... now if tomoro we get 30,000 cases I’ll be more than happy to say i was wrong but for now I’ll stick

  18. I had that same thought earlier. I actually bought one of his books many, many years ago. On reflection I think that that makes me barmier than him! Anyway, don't worry about the Island of Arran, as that's where I have my secret underground base camp from which me and David Icke are going to take over the world. David informs me that he's been declared to be 'Son of the Godhead', where the 'Godhead' is the 'Infinite Mind'. So, not a bad bloke to go into the taking over the world business with.

  24. It’s a terrible idea on every level. It forces people to do more than one shop visit which is bad for Virus Control. It will force some people to shop Online when previously they didn’t know just how convenient it is, and that’s bad for local Businesses. It’s over controlling and intrusive, which is bad for Compliance and Trust. It’s inconvenient for an already fatigued population, which is bad for Compliance. This has nothing to do with Science. Once Trust is gone it’s very hard to get back Its the perfect example of a policy dreamt up in a meeting room that sounded good because

  26. Problem is that 100m doses is not enough to protect all frontline healthcare staff and the most vulnerable in the US, EU, UK, and further afield (the various places that have deals with Pfizer), so even though they may start this year, it'll still take a while (requiring us to hang on a bit longer with the current state of affairs). But, the Moderna vaccine looks like its only a couple of weeks behind the Pfizer one (they plan on applying for FDA EUA before the end of November as well) and add in the Oxford/AZ one, and we might be getting towards a decent stock of usable vaccine. All of them h

  27. So, basically, interferons are the first line of intracellular defence against viral infection. When a cell gets infected with a virus, it typically switches on the interferon response and this warns the surrounding cells and recruits the antiviral parts of our immune system to kill the infected cell. Suppression of the interferon response has been noted for some time in COVID patients with severe disease, indeed it was discussed in this very thread many months ago! That discovery led to a massive trial to look at whether interferon therapy would be useful to treat severe COVID (more on that i

  31. Well you did make it personal, so when someone brings data into a discussion and has tried to help provide you with information then I suggest you don't accuse them of not debating. Apart from your family, where have you got that those issues are going to swing the election? I'm not saying they won't but I'd like to see evidence that China for example is going to cause Biden to lose the election? If anything overall public opinion of there Democrat party is rising hugely this election due to Trump and his handling of COVID. They are on track to win the House of Reps again, heavily fa

  39. ^^^ This is pretty much the dividing line for those who think the restrictions are not too bad and those who hate them btw. There’s a significant portion of people out there who’s pre-pandemic life consisted of playing video games and w*nking in their mum’s basement. Those types will be delighted that the rest of society is now forced to live life through that prism.
