  1. Basic rate of income tax in Sweden is about 32%, going up to 52% once you earn more than £40k. (Compared to 20% and 40% over 50k in the UK). Tax free allowance is £1750 compared to £10k here. Corporation tax is 22% compared to 19%. Capital gains is 30% vs 20%. Are all those in favour of us adopting the Swedish approach going to also push for these sort of tax rates, so we'll be in a position to do so should this happen again? This is a genuine question - what do you think would happen if we decided to just do that? Say now, or in January? How are you going to make everyone "get on

  2. Everyone is going to do what they want at Christmas according to their and those who they choose to spend it with perception of the risks at stake. I won't begrudge anyone of what they choose to do. The air of righteousness amongst some on here is quite frankly embarrassing.

  4. Thank you for your kind words and support @Ozanne @steviewevie @crazyfool1 @Mr.Tease As a family right on the front line it really pisses us off when people belittle the seriousness of Covid and go around with an it's not going to affect me attitude, acting like it's business as usual. There's nothing worse than behaving like that orange guy in the states.

  6. We've been through this before. Nobody is minimising the impact of other causes of death, but they don't have the potential for exponential growth. You do get this?

  10. I think I know Bojos/Cummings next move. On the Thursday before half term there will be a new announcement about tiers changing. The whole country will end up in a new Tier 4 category which will basically be the same rules as the circuit breaks in the other countries of the UK. Then 2/3 weeks later the country will drop down to the tiers we have now. It won’t be called a circuit break/firewall etc. It will just happen without any prior announcement or planning.

  14. I don't see why a combination of smaller (one person in particular) European acts can't fill in for some of the missing NA acts - think Skepta, Jamie XX etc filing in at even shorter notice in the past - plus some European bands already touring but not playing the festival. These are exceptional circumstances and even with weaker headliners it's still a viable festival with the pent-up demand.

  19. From what I can see, anything that is published or posted anywhere that slightly dissents against the chosen line of public opinion is ignored or dismissed without question. It is quite depressing how discussion is shut down immediately.

  25. I fell over because I drank too much, causing this https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/tailbone-pain-coccydynia/causes/ (it might not be broken), then flossed much too aggressively and ruptured a cyst caused by my wisdom teeth that I would have had surgery to remove by now if it wasn't for COVID. It was stable, but will have to come out pretty soon now. Pretty much all of that caused by sitting on my sofa, chatting on zoom and drinking way too much alcohol.

  27. I think most people realise the pubs etc need to open for the sake of the economy and protecting people’s jobs and livelihoods. I don’t think the majority want them open just so they can go and get pissed with their friends like they used to. In an ideal world, with an unlimited pot of money, then of course everything none essential would be kept closed until there was a working vaccine. But it’s really not that simple is it.

  29. Decided to go the refund route, Ticketmaster sorted it very quickly. You do not need to provide any evidence of not being able to go, just say it's a work conflict. Will be happy to re-purchase tickets if this goes ahead but it's looking less and less likely and I'd rather not have the money tied up forever.

  31. Yep, it certainly appears to be fear mongering headlines as always. I know this because my wife works in a hospital and they originally assign x number of beds for COVID patients - and when they are taken up, the press then report that these are now full and capacity has been reached. When in reality they have a lot more beds available if required - her hospital now has 3 designated COVID only wards which they have more than enough capacity to deal with at the moment. It’s an ever changing situation and those in power at the trust have this under control. This may change in the coming wee

  32. What this story fails to mention is that the occupancy levels are the same as they always are in October. More fear mongering.

  33. What does "learn to live with it" actually mean that we're not already doing? Be specific. It's ridiculous to pluck a date out of the air when we're going to have suddenly "learnt to live with it". You can try to go back to normal, but if it leads to exponential growth in hospitalisations, then we clearly have not "learnt to live with it", no matter how many Tory MPs want us to. It's a vacuous phrase that means nothing. It's a call to inaction.

  34. No. We walked the public roads and lanes near the farm last week but didn’t venture anywhere onto the site. As it should be in these current times. The signage is clear. This is the site from the road

  44. Wow, really surprised by this massive wave of optimism here, but it is kind of funny. People trying to explain to themselves how a festival in mid April is actually hard to imagine, but then a fest in early June will likely go on. C mon guys, thats 6 weeks apart !? This is not happening, you cant do a massive 50,000 people event not knowing a few months ahead is your event taking place or not. Vaccine is not any closer today than it was 2 months ago. And all aside, but governments / cities etc will have a final word on this. And if today most of them are banning everything, masks everywhere, n
