  1. You guys are ace. Been an extremely humbling few days and with the fact that I only continued on Tuesday night for the charitable goal, the success of the fundraising has been massive for me. Thanks mates x

  2. To be fair, unless you absolutely have to go to work, it’s not entirely rational to bring in restrictions like these and not ask those who can work from home to do so (which is what the measures above are accompanied with here)...I agree, just shutting pubs and restaurants on their own may not achieve the aim (I know workplaces can have more stringent measures in place, but none are as good as not actually physically interacting). The point here is to limit contacts. I don’t entirely understand why the idea of having a core group that you meet and only meet isn’t pursued further. Theoretically

  3. You are far from the only one and do well to remain micro. This is by far the worst government of my lifetime. There is not a single member of the cabinet I can understand anyone having an ounce of respect for. They are a disgrace and an embarrassment.

  5. With the Trafalgar Square Covidiots today, it looks like we are heading for a survival of the fittest scenario. With Cummings and the willingly breaking international law thing, hardly any of that lot will comply. We all just have to do our best to keep ourselves and our friends, family and fellow efesters safe.

  6. Right kids, @Superscallyis a few quid off his fundraising target after spending this week running up and down mountains and across the country like a lunatic. Couple of donations will get him over the line. You know you want to. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/summit2summit

  8. I feel a bit rubbish tonight. Ive been posting a lot on another forum too about the whole covid situation. But tonight I just got accused of being a “crying baby” for the last 6 months, when all I’ve been doing is expressing my concerns about the virus. Im not worried about myself, but I want to keep those in my community and vulnerable people around me safe, and I don’t want to see any more people die like we did in March and April. Its knocked me back a bit, I know it’s just an online platform but several people have been ganging up on me saying that I’ve been moaning and that it’s

  15. No matter how badly I come across at least I don’t call people c*nts, throw insults at them, call people disturbed and post that you want to drop a nuke on people in China. I’d rather come across badly then come across like that. You can downvote but you mainly use your downvotes for me which is unfair. You won’t stop posting this is what you do, the whole cycle begins again. You said you would put me on ignore so please do that.

  18. Yeah, I was basing my post on that very comparison as outlined in this Twitter thread: I think this is a repost, but it's highly relevant, so posting again.

  19. Restaurants and pubs kinda closed in Dublin last night, take away only, or max 15 outdoor dining. Exactly the same pushback occurred when looking at the clusters, but our national public health emergency team explained how clusters are classified...basically, if someone picks it up in a pub or a restaurant, goes home and infects others in the household, it’s classified as a household cluster even though the source of the original infection was a pub/restaurant...they said they’d like to work backwards, but don’t have the time and are more focussed on tracing contacts forwards to contain the cl

  23. Guys, thanks so much for all the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the blue dot watching. Legs are sooooo drained today, my left foot and right ankle I twisted coming down Scafell have been happier, but the target was hit for the Stroke Association and it made me smile seeing names from here on the donations page. Very kind.

  26. In London today to see my aunt. When I came at end of July just after masks were introduced, compliance was 95-100%. Its dropped massively. I’d say maximum 40%, if that. So many people not wearing masks on the bus, barely anyone in shops and absolutely no one in takeaways. Went to a fish and chip restaurant for lunch too and no one wearing masks not even the staff. Today has definitely been a shock for me compared to last week in germany and I can see why the numbers are getting out of control again. The government have really lost control over this virus and because of the terrible

  27. You would not believe the amount of students I hear in school saying that they don’t think COVID is real because that’s what their dad says. I know it’s not the kids’ fault but it takes everything in me not to say ‘Your dad is a fucking idiot’ every single time

  30. We've got a series of games home and away with a local club this and next weekend, but I'm going nowhere near it tbh. As much as I want to play and enjoy everything that goes with it, I cannot believe that the two clubs can look at the incoming return to tighter lockdown measures and an increasing infection rate, and possibly believe it can be a good idea. I think it's madness. And this is a role I'm happy to play

  33. Happy to hear that you have found solace on this site FestivalJamie. I 'kind of' know what you mean about feeling hurt by responses from another site. I recently wrote a piece of stoned and drunk fiction on another site. The response that I got was that I was an imbecilic sexist. That was a rather stunning 'appraisal' to receive - especially in the clear light of day the next morning. The thing is that I knew that there was no intent for it to be perceived that way. It purely was an exercise in allowing dope / my mind to be creative within fiction. Now, am I deep down on a sub conscious

  35. I think you need to log out of whatever forum you're talking about & say "fuck 'em", if you feel you're being bullied on there. You know you're amongst friends on here. A few years ago, I suffered mental health issues myself & I know I would have really struggled with covid if it had happened back then. Luckily, I got professional help & those issues are behind me now. Nowadays I can deal with this shit - mostly through black humour. Surround yourself with friends & loved ones & block out the w*nkers who are not worth the effort. Apologies for the drunke

  37. Strangely, very strangely for me I felt really down today. Listening to the tv news just floored me. I went out for a walk this evening along the shore and sat down, watching the sun set. A busker was playing and it had a bit of an effect on me. He sang a song called garden valley, I had heard it at Glastonbury years ago being sung by Cara Dillon. A few tunes later he sang sister Rosetta, another one I had heard at Glastonbury by Frank Turner. Listening to live music with for me a Glastonbury connection really really lifted me.Wandered home feeling so much better. Ramble over

  39. Thing is, as soon as anyone sticks their head above the parapet the expectation is then there for them to be A1 perfect on every aspect, otherwise they're hypocrites. Protesting for a fairer global economic system? Fuck off, you once bought a Starbucks. Demanding coordinated global action to address climate change? You flew to a conference once, go fuck yourself. Etc etc etc...
