  1. I don’t really want to elaborate on here but I was supposed to be going to live and work in germany permanently from May onwards but I lost my contract due to corona. It’s been a really tough time and it’s part of the reason I’ve headed out there, but as I said, it’s not what I want to elaborate on. Im still nervous of the virus, I’m nervous of passing it to others more vulnerable and at the end of the day I’m only nervous because people don’t stick to the rules. If I knew everyone was going to wear a mask and social distance properly, then I wouldn’t have to be nervous, I’m only nervous

  2. I mean sure, but you have to be fine with the idea that: A - his health may suffer due to loneliness B - At 80 and with underlying health conditions, he might die of natural causes at any points. As a family member of mine did during the lockdown. If that happens, you’ve basically isolated him for no benefit and let him live out his last days in isolation. People can choose what’s best for their own specific circumstances, but I’m a bit concerned that “avoid Covid at all costs” will have unintended consequences.

  4. Same as asking my mates if we’re heading out for beers. We will be on ale, lager, win or gin. Beers is just another way of saying let’s meet for drinks. “Masks” is a lot quicker to type than “face coverings” too so I’m going to take the easy option.

  5. What a depressing thread. (You guys are a cheerful bunch.) I've never looked forward to something more in my life than this one. And I sometimes check this thread to get in the mood and anticipate june next year. Still feels far away, but it'll be here sooner than we think. 🙂

  8. Really? Straight off the back this joker makes the dumb point about how its young people leading the spike so it doesn't matter, But the whole reason you put the restriction in now, is so young people don't spread it to the older generations. Young people who work in most public facing roles, hospitality, retail etc. Also he makes the same tired point that you can meet up in a pub or workplace with more people than six. So the restrictions are too strict but not strict enough? Also everyone knows that the reason the restriction is the first to be reintroduced is because the economy is su

  10. That isn't the only factor in determining whether it's a sensible thing to do though is it. Germany will probs be less safe if people from the UK keep going there... I don't care if he wants to go on holiday abroad it's his choice, I am just saying it seems at odds with what his posts here have been saying for months.

  11. My significant birthday is due in November. It is doubtful that I will be able to celebrate the way I had planned. So if I set up my speakers in the front garden and handed out cake and bubbles to my neighbours (social distance of course), would anyone here disapprove. My taste in music is excellent of course. Seriously my mental health is suffering and I need to hope there is an end to all this. Sorry not to add anything of value to this topic, no insights, no political points, just personal feelings.

  12. Given how far people are having to travel for tests, I can't help but think Cummings was ahead of his time with the whole "think you might have COVID - go for a long drive" approach.

  13. Excess deaths is a really useful bit of data because it's a clear indicator of the net effect of COVID on deaths. It's really clear in what it tells us, I.e. how many extra people have died in the year with the virus compared to previous years. It doesn't tell us if it's a direct death from contracting the virus or some other knock on effect (fewer services for other diseases, mental health etc.), so in that sense it's not terribly precise in what it tells us. However it is very accurate compared to the other numbers flying around. There's not a lot of measurement ambiguity with excess deaths.

  16. Hey guys, hope everyone is well? For those of you who enjoy podcasts, this lot have been getting me through the last six months. A great mix of guests from pioneers to party animals. I've tagged the Mark Archer episode (which is great, btw) but there are two seasons worth to get through, all around an hour long. As you can imagine, there are some wonderful stories to be told. Available on most podcast platforms

Met a couple who have a fab old caravan which they hire out and the manager of the camping fields only turns out to be an old friend.... So even tho it's closed season now we can still go out for a few days... Nice result..

  27. its worth remembering that people posting on this thread have more than likely gone through the many tough deliberations and have made decisions based on what they feel is right for them and their circumstances at the time .... whilst it isn't always the decision you personally might make please remember they have all the information that makes them come to that conclusion .

  28. The recent rise in cases is what has triggered the new "rule of 6", they claim that infections are on the rise because of the case numbers, people are looking at the daily case graph and see things going out of control but you need to look at the testing that is giving those numbers, as above, the number of false positive increases with increased testing especially when cases are low, so there is a baseline of cases that are not really there, but the most obvious reason that cases are rising is because they are now testing in high infection areas, they have identified which areas need priority

  35. My first concert was in 1975. Toots and the Maytals warmed up The Who. I enjoyed them but The crowd was obnoxious and basically chased Toots off the stage screaming for the Who. This was back before reggae was really a thing in the US. I always hoped to catch them somewhere down the line in a more favorable setting. Never happened. Rest in peace.

  42. More cases do not equal more deaths. This can now clearly be seen in the stats. The cases are rising yet deaths are not. 156 days now since peak deaths. I personally think the damage caused by any further lockdown would be far worse than anything the virus could do. In fact, I would go as far as to say we should never lockdown for anything ever again. Not even if there are thousands of Godzillas roaming the streets.

  44. Mrs D joined “ US “ to the gym during lockdown! Came as a surprise to me lol , a very nice gym too as they were doing a mega offer for NHS workers ( Mrs D is a surgical nurse) . As my name implies, I’m not a 6pack rippling 20 year old , But , and here’s the shocker ..... I love it , I have been going since the end of July and now I’m going 5 or 6 times a week! I have become addicted to the gym , and that’s a sentence I NEVER thought I would say out loud.

  46. What’s up with all the shitting on Disclosure? I not a massive fan of theirs but I do think theyre getting more flack than needed. If they bring out guests it could be pretty great. To those who are saying ‘what have they done since 2016 to deserve to be headliner again?’ what are you on about? This is only ever a criteria I see brought up about bands people don’t like. It’s not like they got bumped up from radio one to headliners, they’ve gone from One of three headliner to one of six headliners so is already arguably a downgrade. Queens of the Stone Age have arguably done less but ar
