  4. Lockdown lingo - are you fully conversant with the new terminology? *Coronacoaster* The ups and downs of your mood during the pandemic. You’re loving lockdown one minute but suddenly weepy with anxiety the next. It truly is “an emotional coronacoaster”. *Quarantinis* Experimental cocktails mixed from whatever random ingredients you have left in the house. The boozy equivalent of a store cupboard supper. Southern Comfort and Ribena quarantini with a glacé cherry garnish, anyone? These are sipped at “locktail hour”, ie. wine o’clock during lockdown, which seems to be creeping earlier with each passing week. *Le Creuset wrist* It’s the new “avocado hand” - an aching arm after taking one’s best saucepan outside to bang during the weekly ‘Clap For Carers.’ It might be heavy but you’re keen to impress the neighbours with your high-quality kitchenware. *Coronials* As opposed to millennials, this refers to the future generation of babies conceived or born during coronavirus quarantine. They might also become known as “Generation C” or, more spookily, “Children of the Quarn”. *Furlough Merlot* Wine consumed in an attempt to relieve the frustration of not working. Also known as “bored-eaux” or “cabernet tedium”. *Coronadose* An overdose of bad news from consuming too much media during a time of crisis. Can result in a panicdemic. *The elephant in the Zoom* The glaring issue during a videoconferencing call that nobody feels able to mention. E.g. one participant has dramatically put on weight, suddenly sprouted terrible facial hair or has a worryingly messy house visible in the background. *Quentin Quarantino* An attention-seeker using their time in lockdown to make amateur films which they’re convinced are funnier and cleverer than they actually are. *Covidiot* or *Wuhan-ker* One who ignores public health advice or behaves with reckless disregard for the safety of others can be said to display “covidiocy” or be “covidiotic”. Also called a “lockclown” or even a “Wuhan-ker”. *Goutbreak* The sudden fear that you’ve consumed so much wine, cheese, home-made cake and Easter chocolate in lockdown that your ankles are swelling up like a medieval king’s. *Antisocial distancing* Using health precautions as an excuse for snubbing neighbours and generally ignoring people you find irritating. *Coughin’ dodger* Someone so alarmed by an innocuous splutter or throat-clear that they back away in terror. *Mask-ara* Extra make-up applied to "make one's eyes pop" before venturing out in public wearing a face mask. *Covid-10* The 10lbs in weight that we’re all gaining from comfort-eating and comfort-drinking. Also known as “fattening the curve.

  5. It’s also not true, the guy didn’t say this and it’s being spread as if he did. Conspiracy theorists will still consider this true though.

  7. 4-10 August 2021 as far as I know, although it's still really far away. Looking on the bright side, the island will look healthier than ever and the organizers will have more time to book artists who weren't even planning to tour until next year! Also, it will probably sell out next year "thanks" to the virus.

Spain wants to return to the "new normal" by the end of June. Seeing as how that's concerts with max capacity of 800 (seating only), I can't see two weeks later them allowing a festival of 10,000s.

  9. Sorry to break it to you, but my best friend also has no family in the area. I am fully aware of how contagion works. By your assessment I am just as likely to be responsible for someone else's life by getting groceries. If they're holding mass gatherings we are clearly going to be beyond the point where a 2 week quarentine is necessary. I'm not the one in control of whether mass events are happening or not, and I am 100% following quarentine rules. This is also a HYPOTHETICAL thread about your own personal risk if a mass gathering was ALLOWED. No one is talking about going to secret illegal very fun sounding underground raves. But I am not going to wait inside for a vaccine if life has resumed.

  10. I have drank an insane amount of beer the past few weeks. The sun was the main reason, was just sat out each evening - slowed down this week I ordered from Love Lane brewery in Liverpool - aiming to make these last. That's definitely a way people can help their favourite breweries in this, by ordering from them if possible..they've got a great bar in the Baltic Quarter and I'd love it if they're still around after this.

  15. Personally gutted as it’s taken me well over 6 years or so to get my shit together enough to enable me to go (due to family and other festival commitments). Oh well, just like Glasto - at least I’m not missing out on something that is on. The correct decision.

  16. Definitely not. Not even a slight chance of that. If they were Pyramid then 4th down was most likely, maybe 5th. Putting them that high up in 2009 was a bit of a weak booking, and that's considering they had the attraction of being newly reformed with a relatively authentic lineup. Since then they've lost key members and drifting down bills everywhere.

  18. I really think they booked Billie Eilish guys and she was scheduled to get her own announcement. Her and Aerosmith sound like the type of acts that would get their own announcement.

  19. I could see that too tbf. It's a big line-up. My logic is this: AJ Tracey is fucking massive at the moment, selling out Ally Pally in minutes and a shifting a million copies of "Ladbroke Grove". I think he'd take what Dave and Stormzy have had in recent years and get the sundown grime/rap position. That's a ready-made sub for me. Sam Fender is the usual 'white boy with guitar' hot thing that always ranks higher than eFests expect it to every year (Ben Howard, Jake Bugg, Paolo Nutini, plus all yer Courteneers/Two Door type bands that never go away) So, I figure Dizzee and Supergrass are gonna be like Manics in 2014: big crowds, big fun, easy winners, but just kept a notch down from subbing by acts more au courant.

  20. You’re right, having another event towards the end of the year would generate income, but wouldn’t be driven by internationals. It’s mentally easier to believe this is going ahead rather than cancelling indefinitely. The purpose built site is obviously ideal as cost is low for setup and time is much shorter than conventional stage building. Good for certain last minute decisions, not for a global pandemic. It would be a miracle that even pubs and clubs open for this year. Generic clubs probably have a max capacity of 1000-2000 where I am. Governments will not let 10,000’s + of all ages gather for a concert. Let alone let people camp when it’s going to be unhygienic. My thinking is that the government need to get this under control first time round, and whether we’re on lockdown for a couple more weeks or the rest of the year is neither here or there. Let’s look forward to next year where we can enjoy it with no panic.

  22. Do you think Worthy FM will be broadcast over what would be the festival period? They could record remotely or just play old shows from previous festival. I would love to be able to sit in the garden with a beer listening to it

  25. Anyway, @Sziget2020_Leaks thanks for the different tips you gave us, that was kind of you and really fun to make pronostics ^^ Hope to see you back in a few months ! (even if this time I think everyone will communicate earlier than before, some festivals already gave names for 2021, which never happenned so soon before lol)
    1 point
  26. That's totally understandable and I think they know it too, so there will be a refund option.I think you'll have some time to think before you decide which option you choose.

  27. Can u give as any confirmed names yet to be announced? just out off curiosity now man 2020 sucks :S
    1 point
  28. You might have found a very few... for discussion purposes they serve as the odd exceptions that confirms the rule. And I am sure Primavera will communicate along similar lines when the government cancellation is in place. Primavera, as well as almost all other festivals, won't forfeit their force majeure legal rights by cancelling the festival by themselves. It could potentially ruin the festival for all future.

  29. I personally think in the absence of a vaccine or cure then the amount of deaths in each country will end up more or less the same relatively speaking. We’ve all had flatten the curve rammed down our neck 1000 time’s, it’s a pretty simple premise though, more deaths over a shorter period or or the same amount of deaths over a longer period. Even if we remained in this exact state for a year (which would be impossible) anybody working from home the entire time would still have the risk of getting it when they popped to the shops etc, but that risk would just be spread out over the entire next 365 days, the same as it would be for everyone else in the country. As soon as lockdown is eased that risk goes up, even if you personally don’t change your behaviour, if other people do your personal risk increases as soon as you pop out, so you’ve got an increased risk over the year. The only way this wouldn’t be the case is if we knew for definite that in say two or three months we’d definitely have a vaccine and a cure. That way the countries who acted first would’ve saved lives. Short of that being the case we’re all likely to end up in the same place, especially if it becomes endemic, it will get everyone then eventually anyway.

  30. Tommy69 is spot on. There is more chance of Boris Johnson announcing he's celibate than Benicassim happening in 2020.

  31. If possible then wouldn’t the financial loss be minimised if they managed to squeeze in something in September? im not saying I’m confident this is what will happen, but they certainly wouldn’t be the first festival to try and postpone it for later this summer than a whole year away. The good thing about beni is that the purpose built site can be assembled in a matter of days, so any decision can be held off until the last minute.

  36. La Route Du Rock has inevitably cancelled as well. They released the line up of what they had booked as well unless they'd done it before and I'd missed it. Would have seen a big chunk in the club/lift etc.

  37. After 5 weeks of doing nothing (but lucky to be doing it in a beautiful place with plenty of outdoor space and still getting 80% of my salary) I've signed up to help out with a meal delivery service that's been organised locally. The local parish centre (who've been really good at organising stuff. I would have signed up for something earlier, but had symptoms. And then until the meals on wheels started were OK for volunteers) have got access to a school kitchen and are cooking lunch every day for any one isolating, or are vulnerable for any other reason. I'll be delivering said meals a couple of days a week. Be nice to have some structure, and a valid reason to get out and about, even if it is only for a couple of hours.

  38. I think Starmer is ace at PMQs. He's so articulate, confident and knows his shit. We just need to get Boris to actually attend one so he can give him a proper roasting.

  41. I just can't get past the fact that I find Ricky Gervais to be skin-crawlingly obnoxious. I was never certain, but trying to watch the Ricky Gervais Show with the three of them and everything just revolving around him being the verbal bullying kid at school just cemented my opinion. I just think he's an absolute bellend.

  42. I did my first ever marathon at the weekend - ending up with a modest time of 4 hours 47 mins. I'm pretty happy with that although would have wanted a lower time in the actual event but I took it easy as didn't want to do myself any damage!! It's a bit bittersweet as it was quite a big event I'd been training for and focusing on before Glasto in June, now I have nothing to look forward to I'm feeling a bit blue!

  44. Coldplay 2016 - I was on me own as everyone in my group had gone to LCD. I wasn’t necessarily unhappy to be be there on my own, quite happy in my own company for a while! But a group of about six Welsh lads & lasses, all happily sloshed, adopted me, arms round for the singalongs, and their positive spirit matches the colours and lasers and big songs. They were lovely to me and I told ‘em that at the end, and that’s one of the very best shows I’ve ever been to as a result!
