  4. Life is shit for some, and always has been. Life is not shit for others, and always has been. Maybe after all this, those people remaining will reform as a universal community rather than just rebuild capitalism. I'd like to think that, anyway. However the bog roll hoarders of the world tell me that greed still prevails. And we think that we are the superior species!

  7. Fuck a Sid Vicious. I'm far from a punk kid, but the Matlock lineup Pistols are all live and kicking and, on the occasions when, they've played together, sound fucking 🔥🔥🔥🔥

  9. All the weekend, my 66-year-old dad – who considers himself very trendy for his age, more likely to be listening to Parquet Courts than Pink Floyd – was unable to process why me and my gf were so buzzed to finally see Bobby and the lads. "They're so old, all their hits were in my day, it's going to be a mopefest"... etc etc. Especially after we went to see the Chems together, he was committed to see out Sunday in a dance tent. I told him we were getting in the inner circle for Vampire Weekend and staying there, and he scoffed. First thing he said on Monday when we met for the ride home: "Watched the whole thing. Yeah. I'm a born-again Cure fan."

  10. What with The Cure being my all time favourite band of all time, the fact that I didn't get tickets for last year is going to be a little tear in my heart for the rest of my days. Still, I made the best of being able to watch the whole mesmerising set live, and what I really enjoyed was seeing the reactions from people on twitter. Even those people who hadn't given The Cure a second thought in 20 years were all saying "my god, his voice hasn't aged a day. It sounds exactly the same!" and commenting on what a great set it was. All I could do was enjoy and be proud of my favourite band getting some of the recognition they truly deserved and are so rarely afforded. They smashed it, even from my settee.

  11. Some really greats ones on here! I also really like "Homer's Phobia" and "Brother from the Same Planet". @Calvin Klein - my friend and I still quote a lot! In recent days he sent me the meme below over whatsapp whilst mid Covid chat.. It absolutely did me in..... "Yes I would, Kent" Edit: I didn't quite mean for this pic to be so big!

  12. You just reminded me of Saturday's of Thunder (with the soapbox racing)...I particularly like the bit with Patty and Selma "Oh my god, I don't know Jack about my boy! I'm a bad father" "You're also fat" "I'm also fat!!"

  14. I saw someone tweeted a link to their 2016 set yesterday. In the comments someone timestamped each song and for the bit when they brought on Michael Eavis to sing My Way it just says "(Unknown artist and song)"

  15. I can't even get in to listing my favourite episodes. For me everything in seasons 3 through 7 is the peak of television. Quality starts to dip from there but obviously some all timers in seasons 8-10 as well. Just saw this on one of the "Simpsons quotes" FB groups and made me chuckle

  19. Maybe the only thing I love more than Glastonbury is The Simpsons. I wish I still had a copy of my first year animation paper about it where I rbled on for 5000 words about how much I loved it and got a 2:1 (thank you mdma). The top 10s here are all about right, although I'd put You Only Move Twice much higher, I've gotta give a shout out to the 300th episode that was the coming together of everything I loved as a boy and isy personal point it dropped off You can tell from the time I've written this that it doesn't need to be read but

  22. The event itself yeah but put it alongside social distancing, people packed on transport to and from, add in going to the pub/restaurant beforehand and its a different story.

  23. I am surprised this thread by @guypjfreak from 2011 hasn't been archived, but in view of potential "essential supplies" shortages in the supermarkets/shops especially now the pubs are closing their doors this evening, there are some great tips to brew your own whilst we all self isolate in this thread! The more the merrier, please add yours!

  25. It's tragic that the entertainment industry is taking a massive hit at the moment and you're completely right that lots of people in the business do need these events to go ahead. However the priority right now and for the foreseeable future is maintaining people's health and saving lives. So is it not irresponsible for RW and all the other festivals to be making plans to get thousands of people together in the next few months in a relatively small space when we're not even allowed to stand within 2 metres of each other in the queue for food at the supermarket? The speed this is moving at is causing Governments in every country, with all those resources and experts at their disposal, to have to change the advice they're giving and make u-turns on an almost daily basis. So quite how any music festival can make feasible contingency plans to go ahead in any capacity in the next few months is beyond me? Even in the very unlikely event things do start to calm down around May/June time (which incidentally is when it's predicted to peak in many European countries) then the scientific consensus is that it will flare up again once people start to socialise after restrictions are lifted. There's no way they will suddenly sanction mass gatherings of thousands of people standing right next to each other in fields or in huge, crowded tents. And would people even want to go when there's the very real risk of catching it, spreading it to family and friends and then having to go into isolation, lockdown etc again? RW can make all the plans they like but they've got no control over what happens and will be totally reliant on the decisions Govts make to try and slow down the spread. Sorry to be so pessimistic but I've resigned myself to the fact that this summer's festival season is almost certainly a write off. I hope I'm wrong as otherwise it'll mean I'll miss out on my annual festival trip to Belgium (as well as family holidays to Holland in May and the United States in July) but this isn't going away any time soon.

  26. I’ll just tell you my absolute favourite episode - Treehouse of Horror XXII or more specifically, the first story The Diving Bell and the Butterball the first time I saw that, I literally pissed myself - proper, old skool uncontrollable crying laughter. there are a hundred masterpiece episodes, and a thousand classic moments - but that is my favourite 😀

  33. Nope. If things have calmed down, it'll all be relative. Things will just be less nuts than now, but still nowhere near normal. And that's a big if at the moment. And even if that is the case, the last thing the local authority or services need is an impromptu large gathering, however well intentioned or celebratory it may be. Love the idea, but we're going to have to ease ourselves back into normal life over a long period of time by the looks of things

  34. Sorry if this is a bit gallows, but saw this that they've cancelled all of 2020 as a year, made me chuckle then I had a word with myself.

  35. Maybe but they were receiving a contonuous torrent of questions on Facebook and on their website. They had to act quickly. This was my first year of volunteering with them so I'm gutted obviously. All they are doing is sticking to their own rules

  38. For me the highlight of Radiohead's last set. They transformed a tasteful dinner party jazz recording into an absolute beast. Mesmerising lights, a visceral and muscular performance. And some great meracas.
