  1. No Matt, I give precisely zero fucks about Foals. Never cared, probably never will. My general irritation, and it's not just you but you're a poster boy for it, is the tendency to talk in absolutes. No grey areas, no mights or could be. Foals are subbing Liam Gallagher at a festival SO THEY MAY AS WELL KILL THEMSELVES NOW AS THEIR CAREERS ARE OVER, WITH NOTHING LEFT BUT THE SWEET RELEASE OF DEATH. Just try a little nuance, you might like the taste. EDIT I may be a little pissy in general at the moment when it comes to discussions and grey areas, so perhaps not as eloquent as I'd normally like. Stand by the point though.

  3. Real shame it turned out to be a hoax. They fit the ethos of the festival so well, I can't think of anyone better to get in at such times. Really hope that the Eavii pull it out of the bag and have them on the other against Taylor or Kendrick, while the crossover on here may be fairly large, I think for most it would be a binary choice. Having seen both, I would gone for Rage over Macca despite how special Macca's set will no doubt be. I think it would be the same for any headliner, any year. As a complete aside, between the ages of 15 and 17 friends of mine formed a Rage tribute band called 'The Spartans'. As far as I can remember they only played private parties / gigs in the Ashford area from around 2004-2006 era. My word though, they were good. They had two guitarists out of necessity I think, so they were a five piece. The lead guitarist, Chris, was a true Rage nut - they made him pick up a guitar and within a year he was a virtuoso by learning to play like Morello. He lent me a copy of Live and Rare in the days when I got most of my cds by borrowing from the local library and copying them, my parents didn't have broadband so I couldn't just download these things. He knew everything about Morello's guitars and set up, and after we lost contact I heard that he had even bought one of Morello's old guitars. For the first half of their stint I kept pestering them to play Calm Like A Bomb but they couldn't because Chris didn't have a digitech whammy pedal and it was too costly just for one song when he had a set up that accommodated the rest of their set. At some point, at one gig (that my awful band also played) I was busy outside the venue with a ladyfriend drinking the vodka my band had been payed in when I heard them start with that bass line - immediately ditched her, ran in and started moshing away - the fucker had gone and got himself a digitech whammy pedal just to play that song and the band had kept it from me as a surprise. Apologies for the aside - it's probably more fitting for the drunkards thread, but damn they were good. My mate Ed was the drummer and just before their first gig he broke a bone on his right side, I think the ankle. The fucker learned how to drum left-handed in a week and they smashed the gig. They always finished on Freedom, too. It was a real shame that out of everyone, I was the only one to get tickets to the Finsbury Park gig due to the different pairings. It was even worse that I went to stay with two of them after the gig before flying from London the next day as I went over just how spectacular it was. But anyway, I really wish Rage will happen. What better place than the farm, what better time than June?

  7. I do sometimes think we need to remind ourselves of the strapline at the top of the page - “Experience the spirit of Glastonbury all year round” - too much negative slagging off of bands sometimes. If I heard a band at Glastonbury & I wasn’t too keen on them, I’d move on to something else, not stand there & continue to criticise it. Sorry to wade in unannounced on this.

  9. All Noel's albums have gone to number 1, wouldn't say his solo career is/has been unsuccessful. It's the popular thing at the moment to dislike him I think. Personally I think Who Built The Moon is the best thing any Oasis member has done since Oasis split, by some distance. Pyramid sub/Other headliner is where he is at. Personally I hope he subs McCartney so I can get a good spot and stay there but I guess he could sub Kendrick/headline Other Friday/Sunday. He won't be subbing Swift, pretty sure of that

  14. I can't speak for everyone here that isn't fully happy with the headliners, but personally, don't get me wrong I would love to of seen one of AM/The 1975/Foals etc headline (Guitar band), but that doesn't mean my music taste is limited to that genre, it just tends to be my favourite, I listen to a good amount of pop stars but I have never connected with Taylor's music, if you had replaced her with Gaga I would of been all for it. But that isn't me saying Gaga is bigger than Taylor or deserves it more, it is just more my era and who I grew up listening to...Or if people aren't happy cause I am comparing Taylor to Gaga because they are both women, I would of replaced Taylor with The 1975 who also pop style of music (More recently). With regards to Kendrick I can't comment much as it isn't a genre I really listen to there may be 1 or 2 rap/hip hop artist out there I would listen to but only for a couple of their songs, so yes Kendrick is huge and once again deserves to headline, there is no arguing that just not my genre of music. Then finally Macca, yes is a legend and I can appreciate that, the big Beatles songs I know and could sing along to, but that's where it ends I am not going to claim to know all of The Beatles work, and I don't know any of Macca's solo stuff, he is the headliner I am most likely to see but dependent on clashes. I like to think I am open minded so will be giving them all a listen in depth up until the festival (Given that they are announced) to see if one catches my attention and changes my mind. I'm just trying to reflect that because people don't like all the headliners doesn't mean they don't like the genre's that have been offered...obviously can't speak for everyone who isn't happy with the headliners, just wanted to show that not all of us wanted 3 "White male guitar bands" as the headliners, but that we also may not like all 3 of the headliners

  15. Nah, don't join him. He'll be over soon enough, anyway. He's going to down that glass of red, then down a shed load more, and then he's going to approach you. He'll initially blurt out something so pissed up and nonsensical that your basic instinct to be nice will kick in, and you'll encourage him to speak some more - thereby giving you grace to actually digest what he said previously. Your plan wont work though, as the previously spoken words will then finally sink in to your mind, and be registered by your brain. It is at that point that you will realise that this drunk piece of pasta has almost rabid designs to get in to your friend's Farfalle's pants, and failing that 'yours'. Don't sweat it though, as you'll only cook yourself and then get eaten by one of those humans. I know that it'll be very difficult for you, but your best chance is to look as out of date as possible. Yes, I know that this is almost impossible for a piece of dried pasta, but it's the best chance you've got. All the best. PS - That could be the story of my life, that could. lol

  19. Spent more time in 2019 doing absolutely fuck all, not drinking or doing any drugs, not even speaking at some points than any other year I’ve been. I was just praying that the sun would calm down a bit. Was absolute hell on Saturday. Felt like fucking off home. I can’t believe anyone enjoyed that heat. How?

  22. you've said things like this several times, and referred to his supposed ego multiple times for only wanting Pyramid headliner, yet he headlines FAR smaller festivals all over the UK, and plays well down the bill at festivals outside the UK, and even plays support for the likes of Smashing Pumpkins on their US tour. Those are not the actions of someone who thinks they're Pyramid headliner level (or their well switched-on management team). All these things that he supposedly thinks are figments of your imagination, as I'm pretty sure you're neither actually Noel Gallagher, nor have some physic intuition and can read his mind.

  23. I kinda get that. That's how Meet Me In The Bathroom seemed to read to me, in that Strokes/Interpol/YYYs helped break the sound through but TK/KoL rode those waves in order to make it big. I can imagine Strokes & Kings of Leon touring together in 2003, which was mentioned, would've been pretty cool to go watch. Don't say you didn't warn everyone ? I like Kings of Leon and even enjoyed them when I saw them at MK Bowl in 2014. Birmingham in 2017 wasn't quite as fun, but that was mainly due to me not liking the crowd. But equally, I think they were better as a live act before Sex on Fire - Reading 07 & Glastonbury 08 looked great on YouTube recordings.

  26. Agreed, seen them twice this year and you can't help but love them. Every song's got something about it too so easy to enjoy a whole gig without having to put up with weaker tracks.

  28. no-one who has actually listened to her back catalogue, no. you can tell someone who has zero clue about Taylor Swift and her career and musical output, when they start throwing out the Katy Perry comparisons.

  30. Hi, I tried to buy two Campervan tickets on Thursday but only got one . There is 6 people in our group and I tried different registration numbers with different credit cards but it still kept blocking me? All the registrations are under one email does anyone know if that was the problem ?

  31. New Zealander here! In the 90s we were definitely behind when it came to music and movies. Number 1 songs took about six months to make their way to the bottom of the globe. With the internet we've caught up a lot. Still have no idea who Foals are though.... This was my view on Monday eating lunch. One of the few countries in the world where you can just picnic on Parliament grounds (and also drink). We just built a park in front of the Beehive too! Edit: to stay on topic, sun > mud any day.

  32. Some nationalism undoubtedly is. German nationalism under the Nazis with the idea of the master race is the most obvious example. Scottish nationalism is not based on Scottish nationality or identity. It's based on the notion that decisions in Scotland should be taken by a parliament that represents all those who choose to live in Scotland, whether they are Scottish by birth or Polish, or Syrian or even English!! There are racists in Scotland but they are more likely to be found amongst supporters of the union (& Rangers f.c.) than SNP supporters. I would argue that no party or organisation is free from racists. I think this is self-evidently wrong. OMG, Neil is on about bloody blood & soiled soil again. See above, there is no requirement to have Scottish blood to be welcome in the movement for Scottish self government. There is a significant movement within the existing borders in support of self government. There is no support for self government within any new made up borders. If someone wants to start a movement to gather support for these imaginary borders, they are free to do so. See above. But the UK has a seat at the decision making table in the EU. Scotland doesn't. Scotland has no "seat at the decision-making table in the UK government. So why does our movement welcome all races colours & creeds & exclude none? Hmm, Wales voted for Brexit you say, but Scotland didn't , you say , because it was a UK-wide vote. Make your mind up. There is no demand for such a thing. Win popular support for it & you can have it as far as I am concerned. As Neil is aware I have spent most of my life opposed to nationalism believing much of what others have written of solidarity across borders. Believing it was better for those who believed in progressive politics to work together & not be divided by borders. I changed my mind in the past 6 or 7 years. UK democracy has not worked for Scotland in my view. Time for change.

  43. I'm with you on this. It's great that Boomtown are expressing concern, dismay and disappointment but they have to think about the people who've been affected by this. Volunteers and low-paid workers are the backbone of the festival industry. The work they do for [mostly] low pay or for nothing is essential to the rest of us paying punters enjoying ourselves and living a carefree existence for a few precious days. I'm hopeful that Boomtown will make it up to the people affected, give them an all-singing, all-dancing on the house experience next year, and bin the shitty companies in favour of those who really value their staff
