  1. Those extolling the virtues of secret shows would do well to remember that Friday at the Other Stage, 2014; when a fevered crowds expectations were audibly quashed with a drop of a curtain reading the fateful words, 'Kaiser Chiefs'. It's said the groans that day could be heard for miles.

  3. I actually ran a marathon today! It was hard, really hard, but got round. Official time was 4.50, however my watch - which paused whenever I was queuing for a toilet, said 4.39 so I choose to believe that. Never again though, I’m proud to be able to say I’ve ran the London Marathon but it’s too far for me. Going to drop back down to halfs from now on.

  4. not a problem ....I like to think ticket karma will be paid back in future years ... this forum has provided me with much entertainment over the dark days of the fallow year ... reading this thread today really gives a complete mix of emotions ... I will be buying some of the mallets at some point soon and endeavouring to spot competitions to help .... if anyone wants to pm me their details on the off chance a secret resale might happen as its worked for me in the past ... lets hope the ones who have failed manage to find some decent alternatives although I know I would be distraught if I missed out . All the best to the extended efest family CF x

  5. I've never even had a sniff of tickets in the past but I had it all confirmed by 9.01 this morning. I was shocked at how quickly I got in and sorted it all. I will be going to my first Glastonbury! Sorry for everyone that missed out.

  7. Morning all After success on Thursday I will be trying to replicate everything about the process again at 9am so more of the 'yellow names' family can make it to the farm. Just don't tell the wife, she will think I am bonkers about to spend £1k for people I have never met! Good luck all

  10. Dawn on Monday in 2017. "See you soon, Glastonbury" I said, now it seems soon will be 1000 days. At least it will feel fresh and newer again when we do return. I think I'll be sticking around the forum, it's a nice community, and unless it gets too much, I'd like to participate with the excitement of it all, I feel too connected to just ignore it all.

  11. Yes it probably will be. My philosophy now is to treat every one I get to as possibly being my last, so to enjoy it to the full, when leaving the site on the Monday taking a long lingering look at the site just in case I never get to see it again.

  13. As a filmmaker for the Theatre & Circus Fields I'm duty bound to remind you what an amazing place this is to visit if you are lucky enough to have tickets. If you've never been then here's an example of what goes on there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCnQM_owE0o

  15. Thank you thank you thank you @deebeedoobee and @Tranquility of Solitude, 2 CV passes are definitely better than none! Thank you to all the lovely NFR peeps who helped out this morning. We scraped in under the wire just as tickets sold out; I suspect the only reason is my laptop already had the fields on the booking form populated. Saved about 15 seconds. Truly gutted for the people who didn't get tickets. Will keep trying for you in any way I can big hugs xx

  16. I feel awful, we have all been here for each other leading up to this morning, and now I have tickets, and I know I should be running around the house cheering, but instead I feel so sad , as so many of the regulars on here were not so lucky , I would give the world to be able to wave a magic wand and sprinkle a little fairness to this , I know it means so much to so many of you guys .as it does to me . Sorry my my outpouring of my heart in public

  18. Tried this morning for tickets for a family friend. There were a total of at least nine individual devices on different systems in different locations all looking to secure those two tickets. Not one got beyond the grey page. I'm gutted for them. I'm also actually even more gutted for masses of people on here. After failing to get tickets this morning I shot off to my pitch to sell carvings and once set up followed all the comments on this thread. It is awful to see so much heartbreak in a thread on here.Usually eFests is so uplifting. (OK, can be odd/scathing/funny etc) Reading such a string of sad posts over the day is awful especially as so many of the posts were clearly from people for whom the festival is something very special. That is what made it such hard reading. All I can say is fingers crossed you'll find some way in, comp win, volunteer work, secret resale or anything that works.

  19. A view from where the Glastonbury sign is placed I think and viewing out to site. I may be wrong but the left had side is where is location of the park and after that Arcadia, the cars were parked more to the left I think.but got a great vibe waking about.

  20. No luck for our 4. Lots of cuddles being dished out round our house right now and even surprised myself a mo ago when I had to rush upstairs to have a slightly tearful moment, and I'm a 49 year old bloke. Call me an ott idiot but would have been my 30th Glasto and rightly or wrongly I'm a bit more obsessed than others tho I understand I don't deserve a ticket more than anyone else. The last few months have been hard and maybe I'm a fool but even now I still havent given up hope. Congrats to all that we're successful x

  23. Fuck that was nerve shredding. Daughter got through after 5mins, entered reg numbers, post codes etc etc. Got through to payment page after a few seconds entered card details and the fucking bank declined payment ?. After a minute or 2 she got a text message from her bank asking if it was her who was trying to make the payment. She replied yes and they then sent a text asking her to wait 10minutes before trying again. She just pressed pay again and thank fuck the payment confirmed sign came up ? Would have been proper pissed to miss out because of her poxy bank.

  25. ah.. sorry Working there? VIP tickets? Secret sales? Get jiggy with Emily Eavis and whisper those immortal words in her ear 'any chance of a ticket love?'

  26. I got that, so refreshed a few times and got to enter my reg details, got to a booking form but by the time I entered all the details and submitted adult tickets were no onger available, so I didn't panic but just refreshed that page a bunch of times in the expectation that other people's transactions would fail and free up tickets, which happened and I entered payment details and submitted and got BOOKING COMPLETE! Holy smokes, that was stressful!

  30. I’m sure we will, but right now it feels like I found a fiver and then lost a tenner , I was so sure we would all get lucky , I’m not sure how many on here were lucky , but it feels like very few got tickets. im still hoping your tack with See Tickets bears you good news , I’m sure many of us on here have our fingers , toes and even eyeballs crossed for you . i trust you will keep us all up to date on the outcome of your email

  32. Yes I think the just don't be a dick rule is the only one that really everyone should live by. Being short I've learned to either move or stop getting upset at tall people who arrive 3 or 4 songs into a gig or 3 or 4 songs from the end of the gig to go past me and stop dead when they could as easily see over my head. This may have happened to me twice at a gig on Friday night. Kudos to the lovely lady who noticed the second time and asked me if I could still see. Nobody can help their height but they can help being a dick and moving during a show into a spot that will impede another person's view.

  33. I’ve knocked back 4 cans of mojito’s that I bought for the festival (see - was keeping the PMA going) We have got a back up plan of seeing the chemical brothers at the Eden project, trying to plan a mini Glasto in Cornwall instead

  36. Absolutely heartbreaking for anyone missing out. Nothing anyone could possibly say could really make it okay, I’ve been here before. I know people on the outside will say it’s just a weekend, but I know it’s not. I know how much it means to people to be there. Sadly wasn’t able to help out in the end (and feel terrible for it) but doesn’t look like I would have made much of a difference. This year looked particularly difficult with so few back in the pot ?

  39. I thought that having multiple windows in the same browser meant that you'd lose your entry onto the booking server when one of the other windows refreshed? I've always done 3 browsers (plus my phone) each with just one tab, with me manually refreshing the fastest one (usually Chrome).

  44. Good to hear Wylam being bigged up. Obviously its fairly popular around these parts but I wasn't aware they'd spread their wings so far. Jakehead is a beast of a drink. Tenuous link but Eavis the senior was spotted in Wylam last year visiting family.

  45. Think most things have been covered but would definitely recommend some light but warm long sleeved tops they give you a lot of warmth for not a lot of bulk in your bag. Something like this https://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-long-sleeve-running-t-shirt-ladies-456137 or some base layers that you can put under your clothes. They can be so handy if the weather gets a bit chilly quickly.

  46. I'm 6'4". I get to my spot early bearing no ill-will to anyone. In order to do that, I often arrive at said spot during the previous act. Many of the supposedly accepting short people in this thread who may be enjoying said act will no doubt consider me a late arrival and get angry as I breach their rules. I would like to ensure I meet EVERY shorter person's rule of getting there earlier than them or standing behind them. But there is simply no way to achieve that unless I a) arrive at my spot before the first act of the day or b) stand permanently at the back. I like being nearer the front. And I like seeing other acts on other stages. People are tall, they can't help it. They don't mean it. They are probably feeling guilty (and, yes, simultaneously happy) about it. They don't want to block your view. My neck and back aches after Glasto because of all the stooping I do to address my guilt. The only solution I can see: we all just need to get along and be considerate of others regardless of when they arrive or where they stand and as long as they are considerate in return. Fortunately, Glastonbury is the place where everyone can and often are simply nice to each other. The most important thing to remember is that crowds don't remain the same for long. Over the next ten minutes, all the humans will shuffle and shift about until almost everyone has an equal amount of personal space and the best view they can muster. If it doesn't happen and you feel angry, calm down and remember that it's very unlikely anyone wants you to have a bad time (unless you're an asshole). If you ask 99 times out of 100 people will move/swap etc. Just be nice.

  47. A few from our walk on site earlier today. No spoilers for anyone wanting stuff to stay secret as I think they are keeping the main build until once the fence is up. However they are digging some foundations down in the Arcadia field and after a quick chat with one of the construction guys all he would reveal was what they had planned was amazing and will need what they are putting in place which is exciting. Amazing to see the site starting to come to life now, theres not long left to wait!! ?

  48. The one thing I find can be a downside when it comes to anxiety on this board is that we all talk about the festival like it's the most important thing in the world and a very big deal. What really helped me was realising it wasn't. Glastonbury is great, but it is just a festival at heart. It's not a life-changing experience, it's not heaven on earth, it's not a 24-hour, five day party. It's all those things to *some people* but it's not that to everyone. And I used to find putting that sort of pressure on *it* actually then put that pressure on me. The idea I was doing it wrong if I wasn't getting out of it what they were. It's fine to just go along and see some bands you want to see, eat some nice food, check out a bit of comedy of theatre, maybe have a couple of drinks. Treat it more like a city-break than a festival. It's fine to go back to your tent after the headliners, or even before them if nothing takes your fancy. It's fine to go back to your tent mid-afternoon and read a book for an hour. It's fine to be on your phone and checking in with the real world. It's fine to give a mate back home a call if you just need a chat. It's fine to leave if you really aren't enjoying it (and as someone else mentioned, having an exit plan - so knowing how you can get home via shuttle bus/train and not being reliant on a lift and so feeling "stuck" really helps). The notion that Glastonbury is some magical place almost out of time is a fantasy that we kind of buy into on here. It's almost heretical to remind people it's just a field near Bristol with some bands on. It's got a phone signal and 24-hour transport links. There's no right or wrong way to do the festival, you are allowed to meet it on your own terms.
