  2. I bought these in 2007 from Ian Gill Sculpture in The Greenfields. One is a stork and the other is an acorn leaf bird bath. My mum died in 2006 and my dad gave me her secret money stash he found in her purse. These both represent my mum, the stork being the carrier of babies and she carried me. And one of her sayings was "From Little Acorns, Mighty Oak Trees Grow". They always make me think of her even after all this time! 💗

  5. There's something perversely fair about the Glastonbury ticket drama in my opinion. Those who really want a ticket will generally hang around longer to try and get one. While those who are half-arsed just "trying" will drop out after half an hour or so. I don't know, I'm sure it will change one day, but I personally don't have any complaints.

  7. This is a really important issue. The world is looking in disgust at a state which is currently killing women and children by the tens of thousands and weaponising the term 'antisemitism' to try to silence any principled criticism of it. It's incredibly depressing to see how effective this tactic has been - the world has been cowed in its criticism of Israel's barbarous acts for fear of being branded antisemite. Even on this forum, you can see the tactic working: the cowards that spend their lives in the political discussion section have long been falling over themselves to brand anyone who asks 'surely we can criticise the actions of a state without being called racist?' as racists. It's not just Paul Currie - there are many highly-principled, decent people who've been taken down by these false claims of antisemitism. One of the most outrageous is the Guardian's political cartoonist, Steve Bell, who for many years has been an outspoken critic of tyrants and butcherers, and someone who no sane person would ever accuse of racism. Yet, when the heat was applied, The Guardian backed down and sacked him. I'll support any pressure on Glastonbury to rethink this cowardly and wrong decision. It's tempting to just duck out of this debate for fear of also being called racist. The following video, which I've linked to before on here, explains why keeping quiet about this issue might give you an easy life, but is, in fact, just displaying cowardice in the face of the real right-wing bigots:

  8. Blimey Neil. Someone asked for a quote and I posted it. I don't care about the downvote (but thanks to those who have upvoted me) but this is a bit of an odd response to a fairly innocuous post. Let's just be clear - I couldn't disagree more with Frank Turner's comments there.

  9. I've heard this before but, as a Scouser who's been four times in a row (with my fifth upcoming 🥳) I think this is just copium from people who fail to get tickets. The reason you see (or you think you see) loads of Scousers round the site is a combination of: Glastonbury having semi-mythic status amongst Scousers. I was always told this was because the security firms all came from Liverpool in the 00s (presumably ex-gangland/door staff?) and spread the word about how great it was back home. Simply put, it just seems to mean more to people in Liverpool, and we're a bunch who like to follow the trends of others. Scousers stand out. The accent plus the uniform mixing sportswear with hippy chic makes us clearly identifiable. I'm sure there's also thousands of Londoners, for instance, but they're less sartorially homogeneous, so stand out less. Plus, being the trendsetters we are, it's caught on outside of Liverpool too - so a good chunk of the people you visually clock as Scousers may well not be, but it makes you think there's more of us than there are. Possibly linked to point 1, I think Scousers (especially the young ones) have fewer qualms about getting in via unorthodox methods. Liverpool is a little village, and the odds of you knowing someone who knows someone who can get you in the back of a van are pretty high. Linked to point 3, a lot of Scousers are quite happy to put down hundreds, if not thousands to get hold of a VIP ticket or to buy a ticket off someone who looks like a bit like them. Our flash-the-cash culture, being (unfortunately!) the credit capital of Britain and the legion of young Scouse men who seem to carry wads of cash for reasons I couldn't possibly speculate on all engender this. So I'd say all of the above in combination are probably the reason you see more Scousers on site rather than a sinister cabal hoarding all the tickets.

  13. Any helpers would be massively appreciated, I am in the coach resale group (along with my Glasto buddy). I'll check what arrangements are for sharing the spreadsheet. Payment would ideally be made if you get through to keep it speedy. I would then refund anyone that bought for me immediately I have proof of purchase. The confirmation email comes through very quickly so them means the repayment would be made almost immediately. I will also be buying drinks on the farm for anyone that gets through for me. I understand some would be nervous about paying for strangers so an alternative would be to call for payment details if you get through, but that also relies on trust and takes time during which tickets may sell out, but whatever works is good! I can provide some ID and have been on here for years although not a prolific poster.

  17. I’m in!!!! Mate of ours got through pretty quickly. I was still trying for some of the E and D team and didn’t get a sniff. Including full sale and resales I think I’ve attempted about 13-14 times now and secured tickets once. Luckily I have friends with a better strike rate. Glasto number 10, here we go!

  21. I'm relatively new here, and this might make me unpopular, but here goes: As a left-wing Jew one concern I have about this year's Glastonbury is the likelihood that I'll be exposed to the combination of ignorance and antisemitism that has been allowed into the open, particularly on the British left, in the last six months. That's not to say that Israel's government, military, settlement policies etc etc don't deserve strong criticism and Palestinians strong support, and I am expecting to see both, but people have to be very careful with their language if they want to avoid causing offense. At Coachella for example towards the end of Young Fathers' set Graham Hastings shouted "Ceasefire now!" and "Free Palestine!". I don't really have an issue with that, but I'd say that ideally it should be something like: Ceasefire now - Free the hostages - Overthrow Hamas - Free Palestine. Hastings didn't say anything that suggests he supports Hamas or that he does not support innocent Israelis, but I did find the omissions curious (and I find the perception among some on the left that Hamas are defending the oppressed rather than another means of oppression completely bizarre). Really I think if someone with a significant public profile wants to state their opinion they should ideally make the effort to actually form one, something cohesive and suggestive of independent thought and genuine conviction, rather than just say a couple of random slogans. With Paul Currie, I think he clearly handled that moment poorly, but nothing I have read has remotely convinced me it demonstrated that he is an antisemite. I also have very profound issues with the Campaign Against Antisemitism's methodology. "We have contacted Paul Currie for comment", as they put it in their initial release about the incident, is nowhere near good enough, given the potential (and actual) impact of that release on Currie's career. There is real and rational fear of rising antisemitism in the British Jewish community, and while intending to protect them from the antisemitism the CAA also sometimes seem willing to weaponise the fear. Finally, I hope people avoid the temptation to make inflammatory and unnecessary comments, such as the one I've quoted above. It isn't necessarily antisemitic, but there was no need in the context of the rest of the post to make it at all and it seems, at best, wilfully provocative. Happy to discuss any of this either online or over a pint on the farm.

  27. I was at front for the jack white gig on the park stage in 2022. This dude rocks up half an hour before and starts chatting to the nice couple next to me about how he's here on a volunteering ticket but only bothered with one shift before deciding to jack it in. He then fills two empty pint cups with urine and places them on the other side do the barrier for someone else to deal with.. stays for 15 mins of the set and then leaves. My only regret in 41 years on this planet is that I stopped myself from pouring his own p*ss over him.

  29. Well you could keep a lenor bottle by the side of your bed. Or wake up needing a pee but wait till the last moment and then rush to get dressed, with wellies and run to your bathroom. Buy some expensive food and pop it in a small cardboard container and believe it's a proper meal. Leave some cans out to warm up then drink them at 11 in the morning. Find a set you want to see on TV then get some mates around to take a load of coke and talk all the way through it Neck some laxatives then go somewhere crowded and try and get to a toilet. Arrange to be somewhere great, but actually be somewhere not so good and remember the good thing nearly when finishes. Get a branch from nearby tree and whittle a spoon. Buy old forks then spend an hour fashioning them into a mobile. Get friends to link hands and keep walking past you whilst some stand on your feet. Pop to the park and mutter w*nkers under your breath to anyone on a blanket. Get a friend to dress in a leotard and recite crap poetry Monday find a car tailback and join the end Walk around your house muttering it's not as good as it used to be.

  30. Re Chinese bots. Did that definitely happen? I've seen no evidence that happened. Is that just random speculation? genuine question. Re. being allocated a place in a queue - will that be less fair, as in people will utilise bots/vpns to have a million devices attempting to join a queue at the same time? (forgive my lack of technical speak/knowledge) Re. it favouring big groups - yes, but that's part of the determination/effort surely? None of us actually know 70 people who are going, but spending time connecting with friends of friends, joining facebook groups/forums to increase your group size....yeah that's a huge ballache to do, but that's part of why the current system is the least worst, no? It rewards ballache!

  31. For most of the conflicts in the world during much of my life I tend to think I'd like to ask for a ceasefire. Everything else comes once folks aren't killing each other. I appreciate I'm a simplistic old hippy, although to be honest that's always been quite consistent with going to this festival.

  32. It would certainly make me more comfortable if you did, as so much of the “peace” coalition has people who very much support Hamas, and who very much do not care about what happens to the Jews of Israel, and who are very much anti-Semitic. So, yes, mentioning you support Israel’s right to exist, that you are against Hamas, that you are not for the murder of Jews living in Israel, yes I would personally appreciate that. (But with your use of the phrase, “open air prison,” I won’t hold my breath.) I’m fairly nervous about Glastonbury this year. There’s a real carelessness in leftist statements on the war, they seem to be completley unaware about anti-semistism, both within their coalition and within themselves. I’m probably going to completely avoid Shangri-La and the newly named “Peace” stage, as I quite like Glastonbury, but am fairly certain some areas of the fest and the acts on it will be drifting into anti-Semitic rhetoric this year as I’ve been watching the whole left do this, and I’d be trepidatious wearing or showing anything that identified myself as Jewish in those areas for fear of being “confronted” by a stranger about “how I feel” about Israel, which, by the way, is anti-Semitic - to see someone recognizably Jewish (wearing a Star of David necklace, for example). and starting an aggressive conversation about Israel with them (which is happening a lot to people in leftist spaces that dare show themselves like that, by the way). I followed the Corbin movie last year and was happy it got reinstated (or was never removed, seemed like it may have just been some confusion). I’m all for these things being discussed, but yes the flags and slogans and even some of these posts and their language do make me a bit uncomfortable and nervous (though I also appreciate the posts here in support). I was, however sad about that Russian DJ (Nina Kraviz) being removed from Arcadia in 2022, though. Because of a whisper campaign about her views. Everyone here seemed fine with that, which I thought was unfortunate. And while I’m also against this man being cancelled for this incident, I’m also fairly nervous about acts making Jewish people very uncomfortable or even feel unsafe with carelessly aggressive rhetoric, which makes it hard for me to want to petition the festival to get him back.

  33. I think the best way of freeing the hostages is carpet-bombing civilian architecture in the world's largest open air prison. Do we need to state 'free the hostages, down with Hamas' every time we call for a ceasefire in the West Bank?

  35. Almost the opposite for me. Gave my white top hat (that I've had for ages) to the youngster sitting on her dad's shoulders towards the end of Elton last year. Didn't see that I'd need it again and she was enamored. The beaming smile (once her mom said is was OK to take it) will be my keepsake.

  39. I'm available to help on Thursday, happy to pay with my own card in the interest of speed and speak to whoever I'm successful for separately to sort the money afterwards. I have some friends I am trying for in general sale. Haven't added them to any spreadsheets as in honesty - as it's their first time even trying for tickets - I think the ticket process is blowing their minds enough before I even try and explain any of our spreadsheets. If we manage to get them tickets early on in the Sunday sale though I'm happy to try for any spreadsheets here then too.

  42. Got confirmation email yesterday, quite excited about this as not worked Glastonbury for nearly 20 years. I think once you have done volunteering at festivals and then go to a paid role, you appreciate what other people are experiencing and I would never expect anyone to do anything I wasn't prepared to do myself. Apparently there are 30+ gates that get covered, won't find out where I am located till nearer the time, but hopefully one of the busier public gates as it would be more interesting. 9 shifts, fed 3 meals a day and we get staff camping near the farm I believe, not sure what field but there are bunkabins and we will have our caravan with us (my OH and myself). Will definitely try to get to the Monday night meet up 😁 Oh and I never Gossip 🤔😉
