  2. Sorry to continue veering off topic but this is a very important point. For me as a non-British person living in Britain the NHS and the BBC are absolutely the best of Britain. Sadly the Tories started a culture war against them and is absolutely determined to destroy them and it is only when they are gone that people will realise their worth. Such a shame that so many people fall for the rubbish about them that gets spouted. Yes every large organisation will have examples of things you don't like and a certain percentage of waste but their output is remarkable. Fight for improvements to it by all means but fighting for it to disappear is actively fighting for poorer people in society to have reduced access to culture and the disparity between what the rich and the poor can afford is already at an all time high.

  3. For anyone concerned about the future of Glastonbury, for me, bookings like Kendrick Lamar, Dua Lipa and SZA (potentially) headlining the Pyramid and Wizkid headlining the Other Stage go some distance to safeguard it. There comes a point in time where you have to accept that something is no longer predominantly aimed towards you. You can either embrace those changes and get on board with it, seek out the areas that you still get value from or do something new. I've said it before, but I really think we're on the cusp of the festival moving into a new phase of its evolution. And as someone who'd like to see it continue well into the next decade, whether I attend or not, I think it's exciting.

  4. she talked about 1. How she got into running the festival, spoke about wanting to become a teacher and dropping out of Goldsmiths to care for her mother. 2. Having one female agent she looked up to as inspiration for another woman in a similar position. 3. Stepping into her fathers shoes and doing things her own way. 4. More provisions for females to feel safe at this years festival - such as female 'chill out' areas and how they're always looking for ways to improve things. 5. Spoke about sometimes not feeling safe late night on the tube as a lone female. 6. Spoke about going to Madonna recently (tied in with point 5) 7. Trying to get an equal gender balance with line-ups but it sometimes difficult as the pool to choose from is male dominated. 8. Confirmed two headliners are female but wouldn't reveal who. 9. Glastonbury 2024 line up will be out 'next week' 10. Championed Raye (a lot) 11. Spoke about Billie Eilish playing at the festival and how she was looking out for the welfare of female fans at the festival. Perhaps @Harmonic Prospectorcan remember more? It was about 1 1/2 hrs long, but there was an introduction from the organiser, opening talk from the vice-chancellor of the university, then three other panellists talking in equal measure so wasn't just all about EE and Glastonbury. It was my question that got asked about the line up it was: 'Given you wish to have an equal gender balance in the line up, will there be any female headliners this year, and when is the line-up due out?' Wanted to get a photo with her afterwards but I had to rush back to work and she was doing press stuff with the official photographer and other panellists.

  6. Well, my son becomes a teenager tomorrow and I promised him last month that the line-up would "definitely, definitely, definitely" be out in time for his birthday. I'm slowly teaching him that life is full of disappointments 🤣

  13. I'm going to be careful how I phrase this. But I've figured out a little about the Glastonbury CMS, and can say with reasonable confidence - if the poster had been both: a. uploaded b. left publicly visible Then I would have found it. That's regardless of whether it had an obfuscated name or not, and regardless of whether it was linked from somewhere. So either it's not up yet, or it's been hidden/restricted. I'm leaning towards the latter being correct, but only with like 60% confidence. As somewhat proof of this - I will say that they uploaded this a couple days ago, which I like to think is a (not so) subtle message to people like me. I don't think you'll find that page linked from anything public.

  15. And I’m sure you’d much prefer a headliner chat than pages of unrelated crap . So can we get back to that please

  16. Is this the ideal line-up based on who's touring this summer? No. Is it worth the 40 euros per day I paid for my six day ticket? Absolutely. Liam doing Definitely Maybe - I'm in. Fred Again.. showing why he's truly headline material - yes please. Editors, Fontaines, Yard Act and Nova Twins bringing the guitars. Thank you very much. Plus excellent female representation with Raye, Halsey, Aurora and Janelle. And one more headliner (plus Jungle and Charli?) still to come. Perfect? Not even close. But as awful as comments of socials would have you believe? Not at all.

  17. Losing Williams Green is a real blow isn't it, doesn't feel like there's a home for small bands to play now.

  18. Ever stopped to think why they were not there? Listen to female artists when they talk about how they are treated. This is still happening in 2024. You can't just pretend that in the whole of the UK women just didn't want to make bands or didn't make them. Times haven't "changed". What has changed is our awareness of the historical mistreatment that UK female acts have endured and still endure. Listen to UK female acts talking about this. There is plenty of content on the internet about this. You talk about "merit" but what is merit worth on its own when you have the industry mistreating female artists just for being female? You simply can't expect equal outcomes when half of the artists are being targeted just for being women. Glasto are trying to do their bit in balancing this by giving more opportunities to voices that have been underrepresented. You seem to be under the impression that both male and female acts have always walked down the same path in the industry world, faced similar issues and had similar opportunities. That is not correct. Please, listen to female acts talking about this, we can all help if we listen. An open mind is all it takes

  19. And over the last 3 T Days, at least, I think many/most/all of us have had that terrifying feeling. Live every moment, team. This ain't for forever, for any of us. Ben x

  20. I mean this in the nicest of ways. Some of you need a year or two off Glasto. Like every festival there's repeat bookings sure, but it doesn't mean it isnt a strong line up!

  23. Host: Thanks Emily for that fascinating talk on women in the music industry. Now, do we have any questions from the audience? A dozen middle-aged men in efest t shirts: When's the lineup out? Why did Stevie fall through? Are Kings of Leon playing the churnups slot? Why don't you get Nick Cave to headline the pyramid?... 😂

  24. Remember it's a Friday so she'll be on an end of the week wine sesh with some of the other parents for at least 2 hours. Then she'll remember (while eating cheese straight from the fridge) that she was meant to push the button on the website. Queue lineup being dropped and a tweet about how much she loves us all. Ok... So this might be more about my end of week behaviors.

  25. I think most of us are in the same situation re: headliners. I can't wait for Fred Again... and, no matter what people think, he's a massive booking with serious credibility. I'm not sure I've ever met a Sam Smith fan in my life, but on Spotify he has four songs that have reached 1 billion streams and, by the end of the year, I suspect all four will have broken 2 billion streams each. So, someone is listening to him. I thought Garrix's show was excellent in 2019 and will watch again. Stormzy is the weird one. Due to be a sub in 2020 and, yet, is a headliner in 2024 with no significant release between the two dates. Strange. Two (potentially three?) headliners to go. Subs are looking good though if rumours/leaks are to be believed. Raye and Janelle Monae provide excellent female representation and will both be great live. Line up just needs more guitars and live music, rather than button pushing IMHO.

  26. Nice one Emily on the majority female headliners edit for clarity in case people feel offended by nice one Emily . I’m happy Emily is working towards her objective and will be seeing Dua lipa and really looking forward to the party

  28. Tbh as much as the BBC can be irritating - services like 6music and BBC Introducing do more for the British music scene than our Government would.

  29. The reason why headliners and overall lineups this year seem underwhelming? Because the public are suckers for being TOLD what is good. Lineups are picked on the basis of who the industry tell you that you are supposed to like, when in fact, a lot of these artists are f**king shite with 8 or 9/10 reviews from reviewers who are self satisfied gurners pretending their finger is on the pulse. If the industry wants an act to succeed it gets the airplay and you hear it over and over again until you think it ACTUALLY is good. So, the top end of lineups appear poor, because they're diluted by crap. People moaning about LCD and PJ Harvey being poor picks to be high up? Mental. THEY'RE not the problem. The undercards are actually good too, you just have to do your research as they're not getting pushed. Before you moan about lineups, actually listen to stuff outside what's getting pushed on you. The lineup for Glasto, as ever, will be boss, you might just have to look beyond the Pyramid for it.

  31. Everyone knows how much I adore the festival, but losing Williams Green still really hurts. There was and is no other venue that had/has that identity and curated line-up. It was like a small version of the 'New Bands Tent' that JPT was once and for many of us was a key part of our daily line-up schedule. Yes, the big bookings, especially on Thursday with so much less on around the site, became untenable. Fine. Stop booking those bands. But, that combination of upcoming bands and also daytime sets by more established artists who were playing elsewhere during the weekend (Everything Everything, Courtney Barnett etc) was unique to Glastonbury, and its passing is one small step towards the Farm feeling more like 'all the other festivals'. And that's a huge shame. With the loss of The Rabbit Hole, the only vaguely comparable daytime venue (though I do understand the reasons for its end), that type of experience at Glastonbury has taken another huge hit for those of us less interested in chart popular stuff and nostalgia acts. I truly hope they knock it out of The Park with a replacement for the ol' Hole. Ben

  40. F*ckin hell. I've never said they are impossible for Glastonbury. I've mentioned several times Glastonbury and Coachella are different level and we should not compare them to other festivals. Coldplay love Glasto and wouldn't be surprised if Chris Martin was already pitching a tent there and did the show for free (just a joke of course). I swear he's showing up there as a special guest every year. So no, it's not just a matter of money and Coldplay ARE impossible for Sziget. More "gnagnagna blabla" incoming 😉

  45. The obsession with Slowdive playing this festival is absolutely bizarre. They've done some pretty wide reaching tours in the US/UK/Europe recently, plenty of opportunities to see them, will be better than on an outdoor stage at a festival too.
