One band stood out this weekend. Every time I leave a festival I’m always asked “So who was the best band?” and I always struggle to come up with an answer. This time round it wasn’t a problem.

The Music are a product of the combined talents of Robert Harvey (Vocals), Phil Jordan (Drums), Adam Nutter (Guitar) and Stuart Coleman (Bass) and they are the most exciting dance rock band that this country has had to offer in a long long time.

The Music enter stage to the storming intro of live favorite ‘Take the Long Road to walk it’, and as soon as the drums kicked in the crowd were hopping enthusiastically. For a band so young The Music are extremely talented and bassist Coleman is unsurpassed when it comes to musical ability.

Babyfaced Harvey, who actually sounds as young as he looks danced his way across the stage, grooving along to a set list that played like a greatest hits. The Music churned out single after single from their two albums, ‘The People’ hotly following ‘Welcome to the north’.

The Music worked the crowd, building up the atmosphere with steady drum lead intros and fantastic guitar accompaniments. ‘Getaway’ was another highlight, the band performing the song in its entirety and Harvey standing proudly at the front of the stage, orchestrating the crowd in a way only he knows how.

The band performed the first single from their second album ‘Freedom Fighters’, Harvey shouts ‘Dance for the freedom…’ and everybody did. The only time the band decided to take down the tempo was for ‘Turn Out the light’. The audience was thankful for the rest but The Music weren’t going to end with the closest thing they have in their repertoire to a ballad.

‘Bleed from within’ contained a fantastic drum piece from the whole band, something that they have been incorporating into all their live gigs. The Music were superb and I fail to understand why the crowd they pulled in was so small.
