Icelandic five piece Leaves are having a second stab at stardom. After the muted reception received from their debut album ‘Breathe’ back in 2002 the band are preparing for the release of their second album ‘The Angela Test’, out on the 15th of August with the hope of a bit more success.

They weren’t likely to draw much of a crowd playing on the ‘Futures Stage’ at T, and it was a shame to see just a handful of people inside the tent.

Unfortunately the small turn out isn’t the only downfall of the Futures Stage. The sound is terrible, the lighting is minimalist and the atmosphere is virtually non-existent. Leaves take to the stage and the lead singer Arnar Gudjonssen sits himself down at the keyboard, which is where he stays.

The band look uninterested throughout the whole set. The keyboard is even turned partially away from the crowd. The rest of the band plays silently behind Gudjonssen, looking equally uninterested.

Each song that follows sounds dull and lifeless and I started humming songs by bands that I was missing at this precise time to be here. Leaves work their way through all their new material which all sounds dreadfully similar.

They decide to play one track from their first album – ‘Silence’, probably one of the weaker tracks from the album. They gain a bit more enthusiasm when playing their last single ‘The Spell’ but even that song failed to make the top 40, peaking at number 57 in the UK charts.

Not one of T in the Park’s better performances. I only hope the album sounds more inspiring on record than it does live.
